  • File-Sharing : A Threat to Intellectual Property Rights, or is the Music Industry Just Taking Us for a Spin?
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: In proceedings of the 17th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). - : Association for Information Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • File-sharing has become synonym with the “digital economy” where large music conglomerates as well as certain artist voice strong concern over the impact on their bottom line. This research analyzes the music industry, which has been heavily impacted by a major technological shift i.e. the invention, and rollout, of the Internet. We look to the technological shift that has enabled the downloading phenomenon, as well as analyze the uniqueness of the music industries situation. By comparing the book publishing industry as well as the software industry, which are arguably also influenced by intellectual property rights and plagiarism, we try to find similarities as well as dissimilarities with the music industry. We find that the music industry has used alliances as well as Mergers and Acquisitions in order to consolidate their positions in an attempt to slow down change. There is no consensus on the exact extent of ill effects of file sharing. We point to an unwillingness to achieve convergence of purpose between the IT-community and the much of the music industry. Finally we point to the historical fact that consumers always get what they want in the end, which should indicate a need to find a viable e-commerce solution.

  • Genetic association study of QT interval highlights role for calcium signaling pathways in myocardial repolarization
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 46:8, s. 826-836
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The QT interval, an electrocardiographic measure reflecting myocardial repolarization, is a heritable trait. QT prolongation is a risk factor for ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD) and could indicate the presence of the potentially lethal mendelian long-QT syndrome (LQTS). Using a genome-wide association and replication study in up to 100,000 individuals, we identified 35 common variant loci associated with QT interval that collectively explain ∼ 8-10% of QT-interval variation and highlight the importance of calcium regulation in myocardial repolarization. Rare variant analysis of 6 new QT interval-associated loci in 298 unrelated probands with LQTS identified coding variants not found in controls but of uncertain causality and therefore requiring validation. Several newly identified loci encode proteins that physically interact with other recognized repolarization proteins. Our integration of common variant association, expression and orthogonal protein-protein interaction screens provides new insights into cardiac electrophysiology and identifies new candidate genes for ventricular arrhythmias, LQTS and SCD. © 2014 Nature America, Inc.

  • The UX Defined UX Designer Is No More
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International 2022 Posters. HCII 2022. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 1865-0929 .- 1865-0937. - 9783031064173 - 9783031064166 ; 1580, s. 26-32
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • UX is now an acknowledged business process across several industries. Having grown out of Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction and Interaction Design, UX is increasingly witnessing scholarly attention outside these historical roots. However, this popularity of UX also seems to have caused a broadening of the UX concept – where several non-UX professional roles and perspectives now shape its meaning. This makes its relationship with interaction design more ambiguous and possibly more diluted, potentially widening the gap between UX as an academic focus and its associated professions. Therefore, we seek to empirically briefly explore how UX is treated in HCI textbooks, as well as current design-related job postings. To that end, a research-practice analysis was conducted based on a literature review and an empirical analysis of job postings for UX design-related professions.Based on this limited study, we suggest that these multidisciplinary perspectives have transformed UX into a kind of placeholder for any ‘interaction’ experience, within the set of academic definitions and included job postings. Moreover, it becomes clear that within the scholarly HCI debate this transformation is accepted and fostered – as it borrows theories from other disciplines that are driving these different perspectives. To that end, it can be argued that UX has developed to be a holistic business perspective – rather than a product specific perspective – where a multitude of non-traditional UX-roles take part in a businesses’ UX efforts. Resulting from this development, we argue that UX nominally has become somewhat decoupled from its roots in the interaction design profession.

  • Getting the balance right between functional and non-functional requirements: the case of requirement specification in IT procurement
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: IJISPM - International Journal of Information Systems and Project Management. - 2182-7796. ; 1:1, s. 5-16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IT procurement represents a business process of high importance, including the ability to articulate requirements that the procurement deals with. Furthermore, specifying requirements is of importance for both procurer and potential supplier, as it functions as central contractual element between the two. The purpose of this article is two-fold: (i) to show how established terminology for requirement specification is represented in current call for bids for the procurement of IT; and (ii) to introduce an organizing framework that may assist procurers in actively addressing functional requirements and business requirements. Ten “call for bids” were examined from a Swedish national procurement database. From the analysis of the bids, it can be concluded that: (i) the call for bids displays a high degree of precision regarding hardware aspects, but less precision regarding software; (ii) supplier experience and competence is stressed, but rarely elaborated on in detail; and (iii) call for bids vagueness may be used as a lock-in opportunity for suppliers. From the discussion on this, a tentative procurement framework is suggested, aiming on increasing the logical transparency for the procurement of IT.

  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Procedia Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0173. ; 5:(2012), s. 369-377
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

Furthermore, specifying requirements is of importance for both procurer, and potential supplier as it functions as central contractual element between the two. The purpose of the article is to show how functional and non-functional requirements are represented in current call for bids for the procurement of IT. 11 ‘call for bids’ were examined from a Swedish national procurement database. From the analysis of the bids, it can be concluded that the call for bids displays fuzziness in making a clear distinction between functional and non-functional requirements. From the discussion on this, a tentative procurement framework is suggested, aiming on increasing the logical transparency for the procurement of IT.

  • Vilja att minska svinn och stölder bakom videoövervakning i handeln
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Aktuell Säkerhet. - 0282-7336. ; :7, s. 20-21

  • Adding value beyond traditional security – lessons learnt from the software industry
  • 2007
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The potential of using security systems for adding value to business bears similarities to the capacity that Data Warehouse and Data Mining offers. Reviewing the literature on documented factors for successful data warehouse adoption and implementation points in the direction of where the future possibilities and challenges lies in adoption and implementation of “value adding” security systems. The reported success factors are as follows: - Top management support - Size of the organization - Presence of a ‘technology champion’ - Collaborative effort between supplier and user organization

  • CCTV as a Socio-technology
  • 2022. - 3
  • Ingår i: The Handbook of Security. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 9783030917340 - 9783030917357 ; , s. 663-679
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors discuss CCTV, which is now established as a mature and ubiquitous technology. They review existing research on CCTV as backdrop to introduce an alternative re-narration that stresses its use as an advanced information technology—a socio-technology. Central to this perspective is the recognition that system effectiveness hinges on a match of individual, organizational and technological features which they use to explain the mixed results on CCTV effectiveness.
