  • Simulation Aided Design and Testing of Hydromechanical Transmissions
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The 9th JFPS International Symposium on Fluid Power, Matsue, 2014. - 4931070108
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper demonstrates the use of high-speed simulation in transmission conceptual design and presents a transmission test bed for hardware-in-the-loop simulations of hydromechanical transmission concepts. Complex transmissions, such as multiple-mode hydromechanical transmissions and hydraulic hybrid transmissions, present new difficulties and costs in the development process. There is today a greater demand for more efficient product development and more work has shifted towards simulation. The Hopsan simulation package allows robust, high-speed simulations suitable for both offline and hardware-in-the-loop simulation. New simulation models for hydromechanical transmissions are developed and used to simulate a known two-mode transmission concept. The same concept is also tested in hardware-in-the-loop simulations in the proposed transmission test bed. Results show good agreement with the hardware tests and highlight the proficiency of the simulation tools.

  • Considerations and consequences of allowing DNA sequence data as types of fungal taxa
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IMA Fungus. - : INT MYCOLOGICAL ASSOC. - 2210-6340 .- 2210-6359. ; 9:1, s. 167-185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nomenclatural type definitions are one of the most important concepts in biological nomenclature. Being physical objects that can be re-studied by other researchers, types permanently link taxonomy (an artificial agreement to classify biological diversity) with nomenclature (an artificial agreement to name biological diversity). Two proposals to amend the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), allowing DNA sequences alone (of any region and extent) to serve as types of taxon names for voucherless fungi (mainly putative taxa from environmental DNA sequences), have been submitted to be voted on at the 11th International Mycological Congress (Puerto Rico, July 2018). We consider various genetic processes affecting the distribution of alleles among taxa and find that alleles may not consistently and uniquely represent the species within which they are contained. Should the proposals be accepted, the meaning of nomenclatural types would change in a fundamental way from physical objects as sources of data to the data themselves. Such changes are conducive to irreproducible science, the potential typification on artefactual data, and massive creation of names with low information content, ultimately causing nomenclatural instability and unnecessary work for future researchers that would stall future explorations of fungal diversity. We conclude that the acceptance of DNA sequences alone as types of names of taxa, under the terms used in the current proposals, is unnecessary and would not solve the problem of naming putative taxa known only from DNA sequences in a scientifically defensible way. As an alternative, we highlight the use of formulas for naming putative taxa (candidate taxa) that do not require any modification of the ICN.

  • Does permissive hypoxaemia during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cause long-term neurological impairment? : A study in patients with H1N1-induced severe respiratory failure
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Anaesthesiology. - 0265-0215 .- 1365-2346. ; 34:2, s. 98-103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation accepts permissive hypoxaemia in adult patients during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The neurological long-term outcome of this approach has not yet been studied.OBJECTIVES: We investigated the prevalence of brain lesions and cognitive dysfunction in survivors from the Influenza A/H1N1 2009 pandemic treated with permissive hypoxaemia during ECMO for severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Our hypothesis was that this method is reasonable if tissue hypoxia is avoided.DESIGN: Long-term follow-up study after ECMO.SETTING: Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden, from October 2012 to July 2013.PATIENTS: Seven patients treated with ECMO for severe influenza A/H1N1-induced ARDS were studied 3.2 years after treatment. Blood lactate concentrations were used as a surrogate for tissue oxygenation.INTERVENTIONS: Neurocognitive outcome was studied with standardised cognitive tests and MRI of the brain.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cognitive functioning and hypoxic brain lesions after permissive hypoxaemia during ECMO. The observation period was the first 10 days of ECMO or the entire treatment period if shorter than 10 days.RESULTS: Eleven of 13 patients were still alive 3 years after ECMO. We were able to contact seven of these patients (mean age 31 years), who all agreed to participate in this study. Mean +/- SD peripherally measured arterial saturation during the observation period was 79 +/- 10%. Full-scale Intelligence Quotient was within one standard deviation or above from the mean of a healthy population in five patients, and was 1.5 SD below the mean in one patient. In one other patient, it could not be determined because of a lack of formal education. Memory functioning was normal in all patients. MRI showed no changes related to cerebral hypoxia.CONCLUSIONS: Permissive hypoxaemia during ECMO might not negatively affect long-term cognitive outcome if adequate organ perfusion is maintained.

  • Four-view Geometry with Unknown Radial Distortion
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 9798350301298 ; , s. 8990-9000
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present novel solutions to previously unsolved prob-lems of relative pose estimation from images whose calibration parameters, namely focal lengths and radial distortion, are unknown. Our approach enables metric reconstruction without modeling these parameters. The minimal case for reconstruction requires 13 points in 4 views for both the calibrated and uncalibrated cameras. We describe and implement the first solution to these minimal problems. In the calibrated case, this may be modeled as a polynomial sys-tem of equations with 3584 solutions. Despite the apparent intractability, the problem decomposes spectacularly. Each solution falls into a Euclidean symmetry class of size 16, and we can estimate 224 class representatives by solving a sequence of three subproblems with 28, 2, and 4 solutions. We highlight the relationship between internal constraints on the radial quadrifocal tensor and the relations among the principal minors of a 4× 4 matrix. We also address the case of 4 upright cameras, where 7 points are minimal. Finally, we evaluate our approach on simulated and real data and benchmark against previous calibration-free solutions, and show that our method provides an efficient startup for an SfM pipeline with radial cameras.

  • Efficient Time-of-Arrival Self-Calibration using Source Implicitization
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 31st European Signal Processing Conference, EUSIPCO 2023 - Proceedings. - 2219-5491. - 9789464593600 ; , s. 1644-1648
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we revisit the Time-of-Arrival self-calibration problem. In particular we focus on imbalanced problem instances where there are significantly more sources compared to the number of receivers, which is a common configuration in real applications. Using an implicit representation, we are able to re-parameterize the sensor node self-calibration problem using only the parameters of the receiver positions. Making the source positions implicit, we show that it is possible to linearize the maximum-likelihood error around the measured distances, resulting in a Sampson-like approximation. Given four unknown receiver positions and a large number of unknown sender positions, we show that our formulation leads to algorithms for robust calibration, with significant speed-up compared to running the full optimization over all unknowns. The proposed method is tested on both synthetic and real data.

  • Optimal Trilateration Is an Eigenvalue Problem
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, ICASSP 2019 - Proceedings. - 9781479981311 ; 2019-May, s. 5586-5590
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of estimating receiver or sender node positions from measured receiver-sender distances is a key issue in different applications such as microphone array calibration, radio antenna array calibration, mapping and positioning using UWB or using round-trip-time measurements between mobile phones and WiFi-units. In this paper we address the problem of optimally estimating a receiver position given a number of distance measurements to known sender positions, so called trilateration. We show that this problem can be rephrased as an eigenvalue problem. We also address different error models and the multilateration setting where an additional offset is also unknown, and show that these problems can be modeled using the same framework.

  • Back to the Feature: Learning Robust Camera Localization from Pixels to Pose
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 1063-6919. ; , s. 3246-3256
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Camera pose estimation in known scenes is a 3D geometry task recently tackled by multiple learning algorithms. Many regress precise geometric quantities, like poses or 3D points, from an input image. This either fails to generalize to new viewpoints or ties the model parameters to a specific scene. In this paper, we go Back to the Feature: we argue that deep networks should focus on learning robust and invariant visual features, while the geometric estimation should be left to principled algorithms. We introduce PixLoc, a scene-agnostic neural network that estimates an accurate 6-DoF pose from an image and a 3D model. Our approach is based on the direct alignment of multiscale deep features, casting camera localization as metric learning. PixLoc learns strong data priors by end-to-end training from pixels to pose and exhibits exceptional generalization to new scenes by separating model parameters and scene geometry. The system can localize in large environments given coarse pose priors but also improve the accuracy of sparse feature matching by jointly refining keypoints and poses with little overhead. The code will be publicly available at github.com/cvg/pixloc.

  • Rolling Shutter Camera Absolute Pose
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. - 0162-8828. ; 42:6, s. 1439-1452
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present minimal, non-iterative solutions to the absolute pose problem for images from rolling shutter cameras. The absolute pose problem is a key problem in computer vision and rolling shutter is present in a vast majority of today's digital cameras. We discuss several camera motion models and propose two feasible rolling shutter camera models for a polynomial solver. In previous work a linearized camera model was used that required an initial estimate of the camera orientation. We show how to simplify the system of equations and make this solver faster. Furthermore, we present a first solution of the non-linearized camera orientation model using the Cayley parameterization. The new solver does not require any initial camera orientation estimate and therefore serves as a standalone solution to the rolling shutter camera pose problem from six 2D-to-3D correspondences. We show that our algorithms outperform P3P followed by a non-linear refinement using a rolling shutter model.

  • A Cross-Platform Mobile Application for Ambulance CPR during Cardiac Arrests
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 2021 8th International Conference on Soft Computing & Machine Intelligence (ISCMI). - Piscataway : IEEE. - 9781728186832 - 9781728186825 - 9781728186849 ; , s. 120-124
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes the implementation of a cross-platform software application to aid ambulance paramedics during CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation). It must be able to work both on iOS and Android devices, which are the leading platforms in the mobile industry. The goal of the application is to guide paramedics in the different processes and expected medication to be administered during a cardiac arrest, a scenario that is usually stressful and fast-paced, thus prone to errors or distractions. The tool must provide timely reminders of the different actions to be performed during a cardiac arrest, and in an appropriate order, based on the results of the previous actions. A timer function will also control the duration of each step of the CPR procedure. The application is implemented in React Native which, using JavaScript as programming language, allows to deploy applications that can run both in iOS and Android native languages. Our solution could also serve as a record of events that could be transmitted (even in real-time) to the hospital without demanding explicit verbal communication of the procedures or medications administered to the patient during the ambulance trip. This would provide even higher efficiency in the process, and would allow automatic incorporation of the events to the medical record of the patient as well. © 2021 IEEE.
