    • The one-neutron transfer reaction Li-9 + H-2 -> Li-8 + t has been investigated in an inverse kinematics experiment by bombarding a deuterated polypropylene target with a 2.36 MeV/u Li-9 beam from the post-accelerator REX-ISOLDE at CERN.     • Break-up of secondary Li-11 ion beams (280 MeV/nucleon) on C and Pb targets into Li-9 and neutrons is studied experimentally. Cross sections and neutron multiplicity distributions are obtained, characterizing different reaction mechanisms. Invariant-mass spectroscopy for Li-11 and Li-10 is performed. The E1 strength distribution, deduced from electromagnetic excitation of Li-11 up to an excitation energy of 4 MeV comprises similar to 8% of the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn energy-weighted sumrule strength. Two low-lying resonance-like structures are observed for Li-10 at decay energies of 0.21(5) and 0.62(10) MeV, the former one carrying 26(10)% of the strength and likely to be associated with an s-wave neutron decay. A strong di-neutron correlation in Li-11 can be discarded. Calculations in a quasi-particle RPA approach are compared with the experimental results for Li-10 and Li-11. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

    • The fragment separator FRS at GSI was used as an energy-loss spectrometer to measure the longitudinal momentum distributions of C-16,C-18 fragments after one-neutron removal reactions in C-17,C-19 impinging on a carbon target at about 910 MeV/u. The distributions in the projectile frames are characterized by a FWHM of 141 +/- 6 MeV/c for C-16 and 69 +/- 3 MeV/c for C-18.   • Systematic study of Δ (1232) resonance excitations using single isobaric charge-exchange reactions induced by medium-mass projectiles of Sn

    • The fragment separator FRS has been used for the first time to measure the (n,p)- and (p,n)-type isobaric charge-exchange cross sections of stable Sn112,124 isotopes accelerated at 1A GeV with an uncertainty of 3% and to separate quasielastic and inelastic components in the missing-energy spectra of the ejectiles. The inelastic contribution can be associated to the excitation of isobar Δ(1232) resonances and to the pion emission in s wave, in both the target and projectile nuclei, while the quasielastic contribution is associated with the nuclear spin-isospin response of nucleon-hole excitations. The data lead to interesting results, where we observe a clear quenching of the quasielastic component, and their comparisons to theoretical calculations demonstrate that the baryonic resonances can be excited in the target and projectile nuclei. To go further in this investigation, we propose to study the excitation of baryonic resonances, taking advantage of the combination of high-resolving power magnetic spectrometers with the Wide Angle Shower Apparatus (WASA) calorimeter. These new measurements will allow us to determine the momenta of the ejectiles and pions emitted in coincidence after the single isobaric charge-exchange collisions, providing us unique opportunities to study the evolution of the baryonic resonance dynamics with the neutron-proton asymmetry through the use of exotic radioactive ion beams.

    • New measurements of the interaction cross sections of 22,23O at 900A MeV performed at the GSI, Darmstadt are reported that address the unsolved puzzle of the large cross section previously observed for 23O. The matter radii for these oxygen isotopes extracted through a Glauber model analysis are in good agreement with the new predictions of the ab initio coupled-cluster theory reported here. They are consistent with a 22O+neutron description of 23O as well.

    • The interaction cross sections of Mg32-35 at 900A MeV have been measurmed using the fragment separator at GSI. The deviation from the r(0)A(1/3) trend is slightly larger for Mg-35, signaling the possible formation of a longer tail in the neutron distribution for Mg-35. The radii extracted from a Glauber model analysis with Fermi densities are consistent with models predicting the development of neutron skins.
