  • Circulating Tissue Factor-Positive Procoagulant Microparticles in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity. - : DOVE MEDICAL PRESS LTD. - 1178-7007. ; 12, s. 2819-2828
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To investigate the count of circulating tissue factor-positive (TF+) procoagulant microparticles (MPs) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).Methods: This case-control study included patients with T1DM and age and sex-matched healthy volunteers. The counts of phosphatidylserine-positive (PS+) MPs and TF(+)PS(+)MPs and the subgroups derived from different cell types were measured in the peripheral blood sample of the two groups using multicolor flow cytometric assay. We compared the counts of each MP between groups as well as the ratio of the TF(+)PS(+)MPs and PS(+)MPs (TF(+)PS(+)MPs/PS(+)MPs).Results: We recruited 36 patients with T1DM and 36 matched healthy controls. Compared with healthy volunteers, PS(+)MPs, TF(+)PS(+)MPs and TF(+)PS(+)MPs/PS(+)MPs were elevated in patients with T1DM (PS(+)MPs: 1078.5 +/- 158.08 vs 686.84 +/- 122.04/mu L, P <0.001; TF(+)PS(+)MPs: 202.10 +/- 47.47 vs 108.33 +/- 29.42/mu L, P <0.001; and TF(+)PS(+)MPs/PS(+)MPs: 0.16 +/- 0.04 vs 0.19 +/- 0.05, P = 0.004), mostly derived from platelet, lymphocytes and endothelial cells. In the subgroup analysis, the counts of total and platelet TF(+)PS(+)MPs were increased in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and with higher HbA1c, respectively. Conclusion: Circulating TF(+)PS(+)MPs and those derived from platelet, lymphocytes and endothelial cells were elevated in patients with T1DM.

  • SreC-dependent adaption to host iron environments regulates the transition of trophic stages and developmental processes of Curvularia lunata
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Molecular Plant Pathology. - 1464-6722. ; 25:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Plant pathogens are challenged by host-derived iron starvation or excess during infection, but the mechanism of plant pathogens rapidly adapting to the dynamic host iron environments to assimilate iron for invasion and colonization remains largely unexplored. Here, we found that the GATA transcription factor SreC in Curvularia lunata is required for virulence and adaption to the host iron excess environment. SreC directly binds to the ATGWGATAW element in an iron-dependent manner to regulate the switch between different iron assimilation pathways, conferring adaption to host iron environments in different trophic stages of C. lunata. SreC also regulates the transition of trophic stages and developmental processes in C. lunata. SreC-dependent adaption to host iron environments is essential to the infectious growth and survival of C. lunata. We also demonstrate that CgSreA (a SreC orthologue) plays a similar role in Colletotrichum graminicola. We conclude that Sre mediates adaption to the host iron environment during infection, and the function is conserved in hemibiotrophic fungi.

  • On Modeling and Detecting Trojans in Instruction Sets
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems. - 0278-0070. ; , s. 1-1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Amid growing concerns about hardware security, comprehensive security testing has become essential for chip certification. This paper proposes a deep-testing method for identifying Trojans of particular concern to middle-to-high-end users, with a focus on illegal instructions. A hidden instruction Trojan can employ a low-probability sequence of normal instructions as a boot sequence, which is followed by an illegal instruction that triggers the Trojan. This enables the Trojan to remain deeply hidden within the processor. It then exploits an intrusion mechanism to acquire Linux control authority by setting a hidden interrupt as its payload. We have developed an unbounded model checking (UMC) technique to uncover such Trojans. The proposed UMC technique has been optimized with slicing based on the input cone, head-point replacement, and backward implication. Our experimental results demonstrate that the presented instruction Trojans can survive detection by existing methods, thus allowing normal users to steal root user privileges and compromising the security of processors. Moreover, our proposed deep-testing method is empirically shown to be a powerful and effective approach for detecting these instruction Trojans.

  • Non-fullerene acceptor photostability and its impact on organic solar cell lifetime
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cell Reports Physical Science. - : Elsevier. - 2666-3864. ; 2:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) has facilitated the realization of efficient organic solar cells (OSCs) with minimal burn-in losses and excellent long-term stability. However, the role of NFA molecular structures on device stability remains unclear, limiting commercialization of NFA-based OSCs. Herein, the photostability of 10 OSC devices, fabricated with various NFAs (O-IDTBR, EH-IDTBR, ITIC, and ITIC-M) blended with donor polymers (PTB7-Th, PffBT4T-2OD, and PBDB-T), is investigated. O-IDTBR and EH-IDTBR form highly stable devices with all three polymers, whereas ITIC and ITIC-M devices suffer from burn-in losses and long-term degradation. Conformational instability is found to be responsible for the poor photostability of ITIC and ITIC-M, resulting in poor device stability. Twisting and potential breakage of the chemical bond that links the end group to the main backbone of ITIC and ITIC-M molecules causes undesirable conformational changes. Potential strategies to overcome such detrimental photo-induced conformational changes in NFAs are proposed.

  • Genome-wide annotation of protein-coding genes in pig
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: BMC Biology. - : Springer Nature. - 1741-7007. ; 20:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is a need for functional genome-wide annotation of the protein-coding genes to get a deeper understanding of mammalian biology. Here, a new annotation strategy is introduced based on dimensionality reduction and density-based clustering of whole-body co-expression patterns. This strategy has been used to explore the gene expression landscape in pig, and we present a whole-body map of all protein-coding genes in all major pig tissues and organs. Results: An open-access pig expression map (www.rnaatlas.org ) is presented based on the expression of 350 samples across 98 well-defined pig tissues divided into 44 tissue groups. A new UMAP-based classification scheme is introduced, in which all protein-coding genes are stratified into tissue expression clusters based on body-wide expression profiles. The distribution and tissue specificity of all 22,342 protein-coding pig genes are presented. Conclusions: Here, we present a new genome-wide annotation strategy based on dimensionality reduction and density-based clustering. A genome-wide resource of the transcriptome map across all major tissues and organs in pig is presented, and the data is available as an open-access resource (www.rnaatlas.org), including a comparison to the expression of human orthologs.

  • Resolving Fock states near the Kerr-free point of a superconducting resonator
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: npj Quantum Information. - 2056-6387. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have designed a tunable nonlinear resonator terminated by a SNAIL (Superconducting Nonlinear Asymmetric Inductive eLement). Such a device possesses a Kerr-free point in which the external magnetic flux allows to suppress the Kerr interaction. We have excited photons near this Kerr-free point and characterized the device using a transmon qubit. The excitation spectrum of the qubit allows to observe photon-number-dependent frequency shifts about nine times larger than the qubit linewidth. Our study demonstrates a compact integrated platform for continuous-variable quantum processing that combines large couplings, considerable relaxation times and excellent control over the photon mode structure in the microwave domain.

  • RFI Mitigation for UWB Radar Via Hyperparameter-Free Sparse SPICE Methods
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 0196-2892 .- 1558-0644. ; 57:6, s. 3105-3118
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Radio frequency interference (RFI) causes serious problems to ultrawideband (UWB) radar operations due to severely degrading radar imaging capability and target detection performance. This paper formulates proper data models and proposes novel methods for effective RFI mitigation. We first apply the single-snapshot Sparse Iterative Covariance-based Estimation (SPICE) algorithm to data from each pulse repetition interval for RFI mitigation and discuss the connection of SPICE to the l(1)-penalized least absolute deviation (l(1)-PLAD) approach. Then, we devise a modified group SPICE algorithm and we prove that it is equivalent to a special case of the l(1,2)-PLAD method. The modified group SPICE algorithm can be applied to data from a coherent processing interval for effective RFI mitigation. Both the single-snapshot SPICE and the modified group SPICE methods simultaneously exploit the sparsity properties of both RFI spectrum and UWB radar target echoes. Unlike the existing sparsity-based RFI suppression methods, such as the robust principal component analysis algorithm, the proposed methods are hyperparameter-free and therefore easier to use in practical applications. Furthermore, the fast implementation of the SPICE methods is considered by exploiting the special structures of both single-snapshot and multiple-snapshot covariance matrices. Finally, the results obtained from applying the SPICE methods to simulated data as well as measured data collected by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory synthetic aperture radar system are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • Sinusoidal parameter estimation from signed measurements obtained via time-varying thresholds
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proc. 52nd Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE. - 9781538692189 ; , s. 1111-1115
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider the problem of sinusoidal parameter estimation using signed observations obtained via one-bit sampling with time-varying thresholds. In a previous paper, a relaxation based algorithm, referred to as IbRELAX, has been proposed to iteratively maximize the likelihood function. However, IbRELAX can only he used in applications involving a small number of sinusoids due to the time-consuming exhaustive search procedure needed in each iteration. In this paper, we present a majorizalion-minimization (MM) based IbRELAX algorithm, referred to as IbMMRELAX, to enhance the computational efficiency of IbRELAX. Using the MM technique, IbMMRELAX maximizes the likelihood function iteratively using simple FFT operations to reduce the computational cost of IbRELAX while maintaining its excellent estimation accuracy. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Atomistic simulation on the structural properties and phase stability for Cr23C6 and Mn23C6
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 420:1-2, s. 269-272
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on the successful applications of lattice inversion method in many fields, the crystal structure and phase stability of Cr23C6 and Mn23C6 are investigated using the interatomic potentials obtained by lattice inversion method in this research. The calculated atomic coordinates and crystal parameters are in good agreement with the experimental results and the phase stability of Cr23C6 and Mn23C6 are tested by random atom shifts and global deformations. The calculated energy also indicates that the Cr23C6 is more stable than Mn23C6.
