  • Revealing the Position Effect of an Alkylthio Side Chain in Phenyl-Substituted Benzodithiophene-Based Donor Polymers on the Photovoltaic Performance of Non-Fullerene Organic Solar Cells
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1944-8252 .- 1944-8244. ; 11:36, s. 33173-33178
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, position effects of an alkylthio side chain were investigated by designing and synthesizing two copolymers based on a phenyl-substituted benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene (BDTP) and difluorobenzotriazole (FTAZ). The polymer based on the meta-position-alkylthiolated BDTP, named m-PBDTPS-FTAZ, showed a relatively broader bandgap (2.00 vs 1.96 eV) and lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level (-5.40 vs-5.32 eV) than its para-positioned structural isomeric analogue polymer (named p-PBDTPS-FTAZ), that is, m- A nd p-PBDTPS-FTAZ with the side chain structured as ethylhexyl-in the phenyl unit and hexyldecyl-in the FTAZ moiety. When blended with ITIC, m-PBDTPS-FTAZ showed a comparable crystallinity but more uniform morphology compared to that of p-PBDTPS-FTAZ. A high power conversion efficiency of 13.16% was achieved for m-PBDTPS-FTAZ:ITIC devices with a high open circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.95 V, which is higher than that of p-PBDTPS-FTAZ:ITIC devices (10.86%) with a VOC of 0.89 V. Therefore, m-BDTPS could be an effective donor unit to construct high-efficiency polymers due to its effectively decreased HOMO energy level of polymers while still maintaining good molecular stacking.

  • Identification of two-phase flow pattern in porous media based on signal feature extraction
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Flow Measurement and Instrumentation. - : Elsevier BV. - 0955-5986 .- 1873-6998. ; 83
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The statistical analysis methods based on differential pressure signals of two-phase flow are employed in the present study to identify the flow patterns in packed porous bed. The typical flow pattern images of two-phase flow in the packed porous beds are recognized and the corresponding differential pressure signals are recorded based on the visualization experiments. Then the statistical analysis methods, including probability density function (PDF), power spectral density (PSD), and wavelet energy spectrum (WES), are employed to extract the features of differential pressure signals in the time domain, frequency domain, and time-frequency domain respectively. The dimensionless parameters are proposed as the evaluation index to quantify the differences among flow patterns. The results show that the PDF, PSD, and WES methods can effectively characterize different flow patterns in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domain, respectively. The comprehensive recognition efficiency is about 88.5% using the introduced dimensionless parameters.

  • Characterizations of Mutual Coupling Effects on Switch-Based Phased Array Antennas for 5G Millimeter-Wave Mobile Communications
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - 2169-3536 .- 2169-3536. ; 7, s. 31376-31384
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fifth generation (5G) millimeter-wave (mmWave) handset demands a cost-effective mmWave array antenna with beam steering capability to overcome the high-pass loss and to ensure seamless connectivity. Unlike sub-6-GHz handsets, emerging mmWave handsets usually employ phased array antennas with a reasonably large number of elements. Unfortunately, due to the legacy of a few antennas in sub-6-GHz handsets, the mutual coupling effect on the mmWave handset has not been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, we study the mutual coupling effect on the mmWave handset performance by comparing array antennas with different inter-element spacing and different configurations. It is found that mutual coupling tends to increase the active reflection (especially at large scanning angles), which in turn reduces the realized gain and maximum scanning angle of the phased array antenna. For a sub-6-GHz multiple-input multiple-output handset with two or four antenna ports and fully digital precoding/decoding, 10-dB isolation is usually regarded as good enough. It is shown in this paper, however, that the outage capacity of the mmWave handset can be clearly improved by reducing the mutual coupling.

  • Long-range angular correlations on the near and away side in p-Pb collisions at root S-NN=5.02 TeV
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 719:1-3, s. 29-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angular correlations between charged trigger and associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV for transverse momentum ranges within 0.5 < P-T,P-assoc < P-T,P-trig < 4 GeV/c. The correlations are measured over two units of pseudorapidity and full azimuthal angle in different intervals of event multiplicity, and expressed as associated yield per trigger particle. Two long-range ridge-like structures, one on the near side and one on the away side, are observed when the per-trigger yield obtained in low-multiplicity events is subtracted from the one in high-multiplicity events. The excess on the near-side is qualitatively similar to that recently reported by the CMS Collaboration, while the excess on the away-side is reported for the first time. The two-ridge structure projected onto azimuthal angle is quantified with the second and third Fourier coefficients as well as by near-side and away-side yields and widths. The yields on the near side and on the away side are equal within the uncertainties for all studied event multiplicity and p(T) bins, and the widths show no significant evolution with event multiplicity or p(T). These findings suggest that the near-side ridge is accompanied by an essentially identical away-side ridge. (c) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Underlying Event measurements in pp collisions at root s=0.9 and 7 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present measurements of Underlying Event observables in pp collisions at root s = 0 : 9 and 7 TeV. The analysis is performed as a function of the highest charged-particle transverse momentum p(T),L-T in the event. Different regions are defined with respect to the azimuthal direction of the leading (highest transverse momentum) track: Toward, Transverse and Away. The Toward and Away regions collect the fragmentation products of the hardest partonic interaction. The Transverse region is expected to be most sensitive to the Underlying Event activity. The study is performed with charged particles above three different p(T) thresholds: 0.15, 0.5 and 1.0 GeV/c. In the Transverse region we observe an increase in the multiplicity of a factor 2-3 between the lower and higher collision energies, depending on the track p(T) threshold considered. Data are compared to PYTHIA 6.4, PYTHIA 8.1 and PHOJET. On average, all models considered underestimate the multiplicity and summed p(T) in the Transverse region by about 10-30%.

  • Structural engineering of pyrrolo[3,4-: F] benzotriazole-5,7(2 H,6 H)-dione-based polymers for non-fullerene organic solar cells with an efficiency over 12%
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 7:33, s. 19522-19530
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, we have synthesized two wide band gap donor polymers based on benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene (BDT) and pyrrolo[3,4-f]benzotriazole-5,7(2H,6H)-dione (TzBI), namely, PBDT-TzBI and PBDT-F-TzBI and studied their photovoltaic properties by blending them with ITIC as an acceptor. Polymer solar cell devices made from PBDT-TzBI:ITIC and PBDT-F-TzBI:ITIC exhibited power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 9.22% and 11.02% and while annealing at 160 °C, improved the device performances to 10.24% and 11.98%, respectively. Upon solvent annealing with diphenyl ether (DPE) (0.5%) and chlorobenzene (CB), the PCE of the PBDT-F-TzBI-based device increased to 12.12%. The introduction of the fluorinated benzodithiophene (BDT-F) moiety on the backbone of PBDT-F-TzBI improved the open circuit voltage, short circuit current and fill factor simultaneously. The high PCEs of the PBDT-F-TzBI:ITIC-based devices were supported by comparison and analysis of the optical and electronic properties, the charge carrier mobilities, exciton dissociation probabilities, and charge recombination behaviors of the devices.

  • Minimal Control Placement Of Networked Reaction-Diffusion Systems Based On Turing Model
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: SIAM Journal of Control and Optimization. - : Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (SIAM). - 0363-0129 .- 1095-7138. ; 62:3, s. 1809-1831
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we consider the problem of placing a minimal number of controls to achieve controllability for a class of networked control systems that are based on the original Turing reaction-diffusion model, which is governed by a set of ordinary differential equations with interactions defined by a ring graph. Turing model considers two morphogens reacting and diffusing over the spatial domain and has been widely accepted as one of the most fundamental models to explain pattern formation in a developing embryo. It is of great importance to understand the mechanism behind the various reaction kinetics that generate such a wide range of patterns. As a first step towards this goal, in this paper we study controllability of Turing model for the case of cells connected as a square grid in which controls can be applied to the boundary cells. We first investigate the minimal control placement problem for the diffusion only system. The eigenvalues of the diffusion matrix are classified by their geometric multiplicity, and the properties of the corresponding eigenspaces are studied. The symmetric control sets are designed to categorize control candidates by symmetry of the network topology. Then the necessary and sufficient condition is provided for placing the minimal control to guarantee controllability for the diffusion system. Furthermore, we show that the necessary condition can be extended to Turing model by a natural expansion of the symmetric control sets. Under certain circumstances, we prove that it is also sufficient to ensure controllability of Turing model.

  • Minimal Control Placement of Turing's Model Using Symmetries
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 62nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, CDC 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). ; , s. 1456-1461
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, the minimal control placement prob-lem for Turing's reaction-diffusion model is studied. Turing's model describes the process of morphogens diffusing and reacting with each other and is considered as one of the most fundamental models to explain pattern formation in a devel-oping embryo. Controlling pattern formation artificially has gained increasing attention in the field of development biology, which motivates us to investigate this problem mathematically. In this work, the two-dimensional Turing's reaction-diffusion model is discretized into square grids. The minimal control placement problem for the diffusion system is investigated first. The symmetric control sets are defined based on the symmetry of the network structure. A necessary condition is provided to guarantee controllability. Under certain circumstances, we prove that this condition is also sufficient. Then we show that the necessary condition can also be applied to the reaction-diffusion system by means of suitable extension of the symmetric control sets. Under similar circumstances, a sufficient condition is given to place the minimal control for the reaction-diffusion system.

  • Network Controllability of Turing Reaction and Diffusion Model
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 41St Chinese Control Conference (Ccc). - : IEEE. ; , s. 259-264
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, the controllability problem of the reaction-diffusion (RD) model, or Turing model is studied. Turing model provides a valuable framework for self-organized system and has been widely used to explain to pattern formation in the real life. With the rapidly development of the biology technology, biologists are trying to control the pattern formation artificially and has achieved some progress. However, the influence that exerted on the pattern formation by the external factors, such as light and temperature, remains to be solved. In this work, The RD model is obtained following the assumptions in Turing's original paper and spatially discretized into square grids. The nodes in the outermost layer are considered as candidates for control. Controllability of the RD system with all such nodes as control is first shown. Then controllability of the RD system with minimal number of control nodes is studied. Our results show that nearly 87.5% control nodes can be saved while the system is still controllable. Numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effects of controlling the reaction and diffusion of the morphogens.
