  • Development of an Asthma-Specific Job Exposure Matrix for Use in the United States.
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Annals of work exposures and health. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 2398-7316 .- 2398-7308. ; 64:1, s. 82-95
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Existing asthma-specific job-exposure matrices (JEMs) do not necessarily reflect current working conditions in the USA and do not directly function with occupational coding systems commonly used in the USA. We initiated a project to modify an existing JEM to address these limitations, and to apply the new JEM to the entire US employed population to estimate quantitatively the extent of probable work-related asthma exposures nationwide. We started with an asthma-specific JEM that was developed for northern Europe (the N-JEM) and modified it to function with the 2010 US Standard Occupational Classification (SOC-2010) codes and to reflect working conditions in the USA during the post-2000 period. This involved cross walking from the 1988 International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-88) codes used in the N-JEM to the SOC-2010 codes, transferring the N-JEM exposure assignments to the SOC-2010 codes, and modifying those assignments to reflect working conditions in the USA. The new US asthma JEM (USA-JEM) assigns exposures to 19 agents organized into five categories. The USA-JEM and N-JEM were applied to the same sample of working adults with asthma to compare how they performed, and the USA-JEM was also applied to the entire 2015 US working population to estimate the extent of occupational asthma exposures nationally. The USA-JEM assigns at least one asthma-related probable exposure to 47.5% and at least one possible exposure to 14.9% of the 840 SOC-2010 detailed occupations, and 9.0% of the occupations have both probable exposure to at least one agent and possible exposure to at least one other agent. The USA-JEM has greater sensitivity for cleaning products, highly reactive disinfectants and sterilants, and irritant peak exposures than the N-JEM. When applied to the entire 2015 US working population, the USA-JEM determined that 42.6% of workers had probable exposure to at least one type of occupational asthma agent.A new asthma-specific JEM for application in the USA was developed. Additional work is needed to compare its performance to similar JEMs and, if possible, to exposure assessments generated on a case-by-case basis.

  • Fractal superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors and their applications in polarimetric imaging
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Advanced Photon Counting Techniques XVIII. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we review the research and development of the fractal superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), including our demonstrations of high-performance devices and systems with over 80% system detection efficiency, negligibly low residual polarization sensitivity, and low timing jitter. Using the fractal SNSPDs, we demonstrate full-Stokes polarimetric imaging LiDAR.

  • Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors at the infrared spectrum range : detection efficiency and timing jitter
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: TERAHERTZ, RF, MILLIMETER, AND SUBMILLIMETER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATIONS XII. - : SPIE. - 9781510624771
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reviews some recent research progress in superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) at the infrared spectrum range, with particular emphasis on detection efficiency and timing jitter. For detection efficiency, we present fractal SNSPDs with reduced polarization sensitivity; for timing jitter, we present two mechanisms of device timing jitter - vortex-crossing-induced timing jitter and spatial-inhomogeneity-induced timing jitter.

  • Adaptive Fuzzy Game-Based Energy-Efficient Localization in 3D Underwater Sensor Networks
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: ACM Transactions on Internet Technology. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 1533-5399 .- 1557-6051. ; 22:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Numerous applications in 3D underwater sensor networks (UWSNs), such as pollution detection, disaster prevention, animal monitoring, navigation assistance, and submarines tracking, heavily rely on accurate localization techniques. However, due to the limited batteries of sensor nodes and the difficulty for energy harvesting in UWSNs, it is challenging to localize sensor nodes successfully within a short sensor node lifetime in an unspecified underwater environment. Therefore, we propose the Adaptive Energy-Efficient Localization Algorithm (Adaptive EELA) to enable energy-efficient node localization while adapting to the dynamic environment changes. Adaptive EELA takes a fuzzy game-theoretic approach, whereby the Stackelberg game is used to model the interactions among sensor and anchor nodes in UWSNs and employs the adaptive neurofuzzy method to set the appropriate utility functions. We prove that a socially optimal Stackelberg-Nash equilibrium is achieved in Adaptive EELA. Through extensive numerical simulations under various environmental scenarios, the evaluation results show that our proposed algorithm accomplishes a significant energy reduction, e.g., 66% lower compared to baselines, while achieving a desired performance level in terms of localization coverage, error, and delay.

  • Adaptive Fuzzy Game-based Energy Efficient Localization in Underwater Sensor Networks
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the ACM SIGCOMM 2019 Conference Posters and Demos (SIGCOMM '19). - New York, NY, USA : ASSOC COMPUTING MACHINERY. - 9781450368865 ; , s. 119-121
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Given the limited battery lifetime and difficulties for harvesting energy in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs), the localization problem of underwater sensor nodes poses crucial challenges. In this paper, an Adaptive Energy Efficient Localization Algorithm (Adaptive EELA) using the Fuzzy game theoretic method is proposed to solve the environment learning and adaptation issues of UWSNs. The proposed Adaptive EELA is able to automatically learn in the offline phase, which is required only once. Then, in the online phase, it can adapt to the dynamic environment, such as the densities or topologies of nodes. Our initial results demonstrate that the proposed Adaptive EELA achieves a high energy reduction per node on average comparing to state-of-the-art approaches.

  • A hardware/software partitioning method based on graph convolution network
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Design automation for embedded systems. - : SPRINGER. - 0929-5585 .- 1572-8080. ; 25:4, s. 325-351
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hardware/software (HW/SW) partitioning is the crucial step in HW/SW co-design, which can significantly reduce the time-to-market and improves the performance of an embedded system. Due to that the majority of previous works have large exploration time and generate often low-quality solutions for large scale systems, we propose a fast HW/SW partitioning approach based on graph convolution network (GCN) to address this problem. To the best of our knowledge, it is a new partitioning method based on GCN which is a gradient-based optimization approach. It can aggressively speed up the partitioning process. To quantify the quality of solutions, the scheduling is integrated into the partitioning process. The experiment results show that not only does our proposed method outperform existing metaheuristics approaches in terms of the efficiency (e.g., 18x faster than Kernighan-Lin algorithm for the task graphs with 1000 nodes), but it also improves the quality of HW/SW partitioning (e.g., more than 10% acceleration ratio (AR) improvement for the 1000 nodes graphs).
