- The presentation focuses on the Icelandic language as it appears in four Basque-Icelandic glossaries, a residue from dealings between Basque whalers and Icelandic peasants in the 17th century. The Icelandic items (around 1,000 in total) are compared to the entries in two Icelandic-Latin dictionaries published in the 17th century, and around one third of them is unique for the glossaries. The discrepancy between the vocabulary in the glossaries versus the dictionaries could both be explained by the different lexical functions (target versus source language) and by the different purposes (to facilitate verbal communication between Basques and Icelanders, versus to make the Icelandic medieval literature accessible to foreigners).

- The purpose of this article is to encourage linguists working in the field of Swedish language history to use the corpora and analytical tools developed at Språkbanken, the Swedish Language Bank, at the Department of Swedish, University of Gothenburg. The corpora of historic texts contain more than 1.3 billion words. A short description of the contents and the structure of these corpora is presented, as well as suggestions for improvement. The article also provides a brief introduction to the query language of the search interface, CQP. Basic knowledge in CQP enables linguists to design queries for specific features in early language stages.

- The commonest Swedish exonym for the Basque Country, Baskien, was added as an entry in the latest edition of the Swedish Academy glossary SAOL (2015), when toponyms were included for the first time. However, several other exonyms have also been used in Swedish for the Basque Country, for example Biscaja, Baskiska provinserna, Baskerlandet, Baskerland and Basklandet. Most of these have been in use since the beginning of the 19th century, but since 1975 Baskien has been the dominant form and use of the other names has declined, although they may still be seen occasionally. The variety of Swedish exonyms reflects the many endonyms for the region in Basque, French and Spanish, including Euskal Herria, Euskadi, Pays basque, País Vasco, Provincias Vascongadas, Vasconia etc.

- Despite its Germanic origin, the highest frequency of use of the male name Aimar is found in the Basque Country and Estonia. This article describes the cultural history of the name and presents different theories of its etymology, the most common being a West Germanic agi- (from age ‘reverence, discipline’ or egg ‘edge’) and -mar (‘famous’). Estonian onomasticians have suggested another origin for the name in the Baltic region: a North Germanic Ivar, transformed through English pronunciation and Latvian spelling to Aivar, later with Aimar as one of many variants.
