  • SN 2017gmr : An Energetic Type II-P Supernova with Asymmetries
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 885:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present high-cadence UV, optical, and near-infrared data on the luminous Type II-P supernova SN;2017gmr from hours after discovery through the first 180 days. SN;2017gmr does not show signs of narrow, high-ionization emission lines in the early optical spectra, yet the optical light-curve evolution suggests that an extra energy source from circumstellar medium (CSM) interaction must be present for at least 2 days after explosion. Modeling of the early light curve indicates a ?500 R progenitor radius, consistent with a rather compact red supergiant, and late-time luminosities indicate that up to 0.130;;0.026 M of Ni-56 are present, if the light curve is solely powered by radioactive decay, although the Ni-56 mass may be lower if CSM interaction contributes to the post-plateau luminosity. Prominent multipeaked emission lines of H? and [O i] emerge after day 154, as a result of either an asymmetric explosion or asymmetries in the CSM. The lack of narrow lines within the first 2 days of explosion in the likely presence of CSM interaction may be an example of close, dense, asymmetric CSM that is quickly enveloped by the spherical supernova ejecta.

  • A frame-shift mutation in COMTD1 is associated with impaired pheomelanin pigmentation in chicken
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: PLOS Genetics. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1553-7390 .- 1553-7404. ; 19:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The biochemical pathway regulating the synthesis of yellow/red pheomelanin is less well characterized than the synthesis of black/brown eumelanin. Inhibitor of gold (IG phenotype) is a plumage colour variant in chicken that provides an opportunity to further explore this pathway since the recessive allele (IG) at this locus is associated with a defect in the production of pheomelanin. IG/IG homozygotes display a marked dilution of red pheomelanin pigmentation, whilst black pigmentation (eumelanin) is only slightly affected. Here we show that a 2-base pair insertion (frame-shift mutation) in the 5th exon of the Catechol-O-methyltransferase containing domain 1 gene (COMTD1), expected to cause a complete or partial loss-of-function of the COMTD1 enzyme, shows complete concordance with the IG phenotype within and across breeds. We show that the COMTD1 protein is localized to mitochondria in pigment cells. Knockout of Comtd1 in a mouse melanocytic cell line results in a reduction in pheomelanin metabolites and significant alterations in metabolites of glutamate/glutathione, riboflavin, and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Furthermore, COMTD1 overexpression enhanced cellular proliferation following chemical-induced transfection, a potential inducer of oxidative stress. These observations suggest that COMTD1 plays a protective role for melanocytes against oxidative stress and that this supports their ability to produce pheomelanin.

  • MiRNA-320 in the human follicular fluid is associated with embryo quality in vivo and affects mouse embryonic development in vitro.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Scientific reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous work from our laboratory demonstrated the existence of miRNAs in human follicular fluid. In the current study, we have sought to identify miRNAs that might affect oocyte/embryo quality in patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection and to investigate their roles in in vitro fertilization outcomes in mouse oocytes. 53 samples were classified as Group 1 (high quality) if the day-3 embryos had seven and more cells or as Group 2 (low quality) if the embryos had six and fewer cells. TaqMan Human microRNAs cards and qRT-PCR were performed to verify differently expressed miRNAs. The function of the corresponding miRNA was investigated in mouse oocytes by injecting them with miRNA-inhibitor oligonucleotides. We found that hsa-miR-320a and hsa-miR-197 had significantly higher expression levels in the Group 1 follicular fluids than in Group 2 (p = 0.0073 and p = 0.008, respectively). Knockdown of mmu-miR-320 in mouse oocytes strongly decreased the proportions of MII oocytes that developed into two-cell and blastocyst stage embryos (p = 0.0048 and p = 0.0069, respectively). Wnt signaling pathway components had abnormal expression level in miR-320 inhibitor-injected oocytes. This study provides the first evidence that miRNAs in human follicular fluid are indicative of and can influence embryo quality.

  • Mutations in TUBB8 and Human Oocyte Meiotic Arrest.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The New England journal of medicine. - 1533-4406. ; 374:3, s. 223-232
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Human reproduction depends on the fusion of a mature oocyte with a sperm cell to form a fertilized egg. The genetic events that lead to the arrest of human oocyte maturation are unknown. Methods We sequenced the exomes of five members of a four-generation family, three of whom had infertility due to oocyte meiosis I arrest. We performed Sanger sequencing of a candidate gene, TUBB8, in DNA samples from these members, additional family members, and members of 23 other affected families. The expression of TUBB8 and all other β-tubulin isotypes was assessed in human oocytes, early embryos, sperm cells, and several somatic tissues by means of a quantitative reverse-transcriptase-polymerase-chain-reaction assay. We evaluated the effect of the TUBB8 mutations on the assembly of the heterodimer consisting of one α-tubulin polypeptide and one β-tubulin polypeptide (α/β-tubulin heterodimer) in vitro, on microtubule architecture in HeLa cells, on microtubule dynamics in yeast cells, and on spindle assembly in mouse and human oocytes. Results We identified seven mutations in the primate-specific gene TUBB8 that were responsible for oocyte meiosis I arrest in 7 of the 24 families. TUBB8 expression is unique to oocytes and the early embryo, in which this gene accounts for almost all the expressed β-tubulin. The mutations affect chaperone-dependent folding and assembly of the α/β-tubulin heterodimer, disrupt microtubule behavior on expression in cultured cells, alter microtubule dynamics in vivo, and cause catastrophic spindle-assembly defects and maturation arrest on expression in mouse and human oocytes. Conclusions TUBB8 mutations have dominant-negative effects that disrupt microtubule behavior and oocyte meiotic spindle assembly and maturation, causing female infertility. • Cooking carbon in a solid salt : Synthesis of porous heteroatom-doped carbon foams for enhanced organic pollutant degradation under visible light
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Applied Materials Today. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-9407. ; 12, s. 168-176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Porous heteroatom-doped carbons are desirable for catalytic reactions due to their tunable physicochemical properties, low cost and metal-free nature. Herein, we introduce a facile, general bottom-up strategy, so-called cooking carbon in a solid salt, to prepare hierarchically porous heteroatom-doped carbon foams by using poly(ionic liquid) as precursor and a common inorganic salt as structural template. The obtained carbon foams bear hierarchical micro-/meso-/macropores, large specific surface area and rich nitrogen dopant. The combination of these favorable features facilitates the catalytic degradation of aqueous organic pollutants by persulfate under visible light irradiation, in which they prevail over the state-of-the-art metal-/carbon-based catalysts.

  • DMPR-PS : A Novel Approach for Parking-Slot Detection Using Directional Marking-Point Regression
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME). - Shanghai : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781538695524 - 9781538695531 ; , s. 212-217
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The self-parking system plays an important role in autonomous driving, and one of its critical issues is parking-slot detection. Previous studies in this field are mostly based on off-the-shelf models designed for universal purposes, which have various limitations in solving specific problems. In this paper, we propose a parking-slot detection method using directional marking-point regression, namely DMPR-PS. Instead of utilizing multiple off-the-shelf models, DMPR-PS uses a novel CNN-based model specially designed for directional marking-point regression. Given a surround-view image I, the model predicts position, shape and orientation of each marking-point on I. From marking-points, parking-slots on I could be easily inferred using geometric rules. DMPR-PS outperforms state-of-the-art competitors on the benchmark dataset with a precision rate of 99.42% and a recall rate of 99.37%, while achieving a real-time detection speed of 12ms per frame on Nvidia Titan Xp. To make the results reproducible, the source code is available at https://github.com/Teoge/DMPR-PS.

  • Organic Molecule-Driven Polymeric Actuators
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Macromolecular rapid communications. - : Wiley. - 1022-1336 .- 1521-3927. ; 40:7
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inspired by the motions of plant tissues in response to external stimuli, significant attention has been devoted to the development of actuating polymeric materials. In particular, polymeric actuators driven by organic molecules have been designed due to their combined superiorities of tunable functional monomers, designable chemical structures, and variable structural anisotropy. Here, the recent progress is summarized in terms of material synthesis, structure design, polymer-solvent interaction, and actuating performance. In addition, various possibilities for practical applications, including the ability to sense chemical vapors and solvent isomers, and future directions to satisfy the requirement of sensing and smart systems are also highlighted.

  • Poly(ionic liquid)s with engineered nanopores for energy and environmental applications
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Polymer. - : Elsevier BV. - 0032-3861 .- 1873-2291. ; 202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) integrates some intrinsic characteristics of ionic liquids (ILs) with classic merits of polymeric materials, and opens up a new dimension to research ionic polymers. Nanoporous PILs with controlled nanopores combine the advantages of two classes of functional materials, i.e., porous polymers and ILs, which greatly expand their applicability to energy storage and conversion, environmental sensing, gas sorption and catalysis. In this short review, we summarize the recent advances in the design and synthesis of nanoporous PILs, focusing on pore generation and engineering, electrostatic interactions, and potential applications to address energy and environmental issues. Porous carbons from nanoporous PIL templates/precursors are also briefly discussed as an extension of nanoporous PILs for energy research. Finally, our future perspectives on the potential of nanoporous PILs are presented.

  • A zeolite family with chiral and achiral structures built from the same building layer
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nature Materials. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1476-1122 .- 1476-4660. ; 7:5, s. 381-385
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Porosity and chirality are two of the most important properties for materials in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Inorganic microporous materials such as zeolites have been widely used in ion-exchange, selective sorption/separation and catalytic processes. The pore size and shape in zeolites play important roles for specific applications(1-3). Chiral inorganic microporous materials are particularly desirable with respect to their possible use in enantioselective sorption, separation and catalysis(4). At present, among the 179 zeolite framework types reported, only three exhibit chiral frameworks(5-7). Synthesizing enantiopure, porous tetrahedral framework structures represents a great challenge for chemists. Here, we report the silicogermanates SU-32 (polymorph A), SU-15 (polymorph B) (SU, Stockholm University) and a hypothetical polymorph C, all built by different stacking of a novel building layer. Whereas polymorphs B and C are achiral, each crystal of polymorph A exhibits only one hand and has an intrinsically chiral zeolite structure. SU-15 and SU-32 are thermally stable on calcination.
