  • Optimization toward a high-average-brightness soft-x-ray laser pumped at grazing incidence
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Optics Letters. - 0146-9592. ; 32:2, s. 139-141
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the near-field imaging characterization of a 10 Hz Ni-like 18.9 nm molybdenum soft-x-ray laser pumped in a grazing incidence pumping (GRIP) geometry with a table-top laser driver. We investigate the effect of varying the GRIP angle on the spatial behavior of the soft-x-ray laser source. After multiparameter optimization, we were able to find conditions to generate routinely a high-repetition-rate soft-x-ray laser with an energy level of up to 3 mu J/pulse and to 6 x 10(17) photons/s/mm(2)/mrad(2)/(0.1% bandwidth) average brightness and 1 x 10(28) photons/s/mm(2)/mrad(2)/(0.1% bandwidth) peak brightness. • HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN REPORT OF THE SOFT X-RAY LASER AT MAX IV
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of IPAC2021.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The SXL (Soft X-ray Laser) project developed a conceptual design for a soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (FEL) in the 1-5 nm wavelength range, driven by the existing MAX IV 3 GeV linac. In this contribution we will focus on the FEL operation modes developed for the first phase of the project based on two different linac modes. The design work was supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation and by several Swedish universities and organizations (

  • Fusion pores with low conductance are cation selective
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cell Reports. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-1247. ; 36:8, s. 109580-109580
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many neurotransmitters are organic ions that carry a net charge, and their release from secretory vesicles is therefore an electrodiffusion process. The selectivity of early exocytotic fusion pores is investigated by combining electrodiffusion theory, measurements of amperometric foot signals from chromaffin cells with anion substitution, and molecular dynamics simulation. The results reveal that very narrow fusion pores are cation selective, but more dilated fusion pores become anion permeable. The transition occurs around a fusion pore conductance of ∼300 pS. The cation selectivity of a narrow fusion pore accelerates the release of positively charged transmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline, serotonin, and acetylcholine, while glutamate release may require a more dilated fusion pore.

  • Studying the effect of oxygen content on the electron structure of Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4 by means of photoelectron spectromicroscopy
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics. - 1063-7761. ; 105:1, s. 241-245
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Changes in the electron structure of the surface layer of Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4 (NCCO) epitaxial films, which were caused by variation of the oxygen content and modification of the crystal structure of samples as a result of Ar+ ion etching and annealing, have been studied by means of photoelectron spectromicroscopy. A method is proposed for the cleaning the surface of oxygen-containing superconductors, which includes sequential stages of deep ion etching, high-temperature annealing in an oxygen-containing atmosphere (for the structural recovery and saturation with oxygen), a short-term ion etching (for the removal of an adsorbed layer of the oxidizer), and the final vacuum annealing of radiation-induced effects. The application of this procedure to NCCO films allowed an electron structure to be obtained, which was identical to that inherent in the surface of single crystals cleaved in situ in the measurement chamber.

  • Characterization of a transient collisional Ni-like molybdenum soft x-ray laser pumped in grazing incidence
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A (Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics). - 1050-2947. ; 77:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present experimental results from an extensive investigation of a Ni-like Mo X-ray laser pumped in the transient regime and GRIP configuration (GRazing Incidence Pumping). The pump laser is a 10 Hz, 1 J, Ti:Sa laser system. The main diagnostic is a monochromatic near-field imaging system with a 1.7 micron spatial resolution that shows the soft x-ray laser source size and position relative to the target surface. Changes of those characteristics are observed for different GRIP angles, varied between 15◦ and 21◦, while keeping all other parameters constant. Intense lasing is observed routinely at 18.9 nm with up to 3 microjoule output energy and stable operation is demonstrated at 10 Hz. We have investigated the role of several pumping parameters, in particular the relative energy and delay between the long and short pulse. We show that this multi-parameter scan leads to a well-defined optimal regime of operation and better understanding of the GRIP configuration. Finally, as the GRIP scheme requires careful tailoring of the plasma conditions to the specific soft x-ray laser under investigation, we add a prepulse before the plasma producing long pulse to generate large-scale preplasmas. This increases the brightness of the soft x-ray beam and leads to an almost gaussian near-field spatial profile.

  • Resonant photoemission study of La1-xSrxMnO3 single crystals
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - 0031-8949. ; T115, s. 654-657
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A feature at a binding energy of similar to 2.5eV which has not previously been discussed in the literature is observed in the photoemission spectra of the valence band of La1-xSrxMnO3 single crystals. To reveal the origin of this feature measurements of resonant photoemission on La1-xSrxMnO3 were performed as well as absorption spectra at the La N and Mn L-2,L-3 edges at liquid nitrogen and room temperatures. Only for Mn L edge we observed a clear resonance for a binding energy corresponding to the feature of interest. Comparison with the calculated density of states led to the conclusion that the feature corresponds to Mn t(2g) states.

  • Discrimination of morphological findings in dentine from osteogenesis imperfecta patients using combinations of polarized light microscopy, microradiography and scanning electron microscopy.
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry. - 0960-7439 .- 1365-263X. ; 9:4, s. 253-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological appearance of dentine in teeth from individuals with osteogenesis imperfecta type I, III and IV using different histological techniques, and to correlate morphological findings to different types of osteogenesis imperfecta. SAMPLE AND METHODS: Extracted or exfoliated primary and permanent teeth were collected from 15 patients with the osteogenesis imperfecta diagnoses I, III or IV, with or without the additional diagnosis dentinogenesis imperfecta. Ground and decalcified sections were prepared from the teeth. Histo-morphological studies of the dentine were performed utilizing light and polarized light microscopy, microradiography and scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: Characteristic findings were irregular tubules, remnants of capillary inclusions and obliterated pulps. All types of osteogenesis imperfecta exhibited similar types of dentine aberrations, but patients with type III or IV had a higher frequency of aberrations when compared to type I. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of either polarized light microscopy or micro-radiography, together with scanning electron microscopy, gave the most amount of morphological information from dentine samples. In addition, aberrations in dentine structure were more clearly observable. Light microscopy was not critical for the analyses.
