  • Dual-Microphone Spectral Subtraction
  • 2000
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Mobile phones are constantly decreasing in size, thereby complicating the acoustical functionality. Signal processing methods can be used to partially mitigate this problem. In this paper we suggest a method which uses multiple spectral subtraction functions and two microphones, introducing only a short signal delay. The idea is to use spectral subtraction methods to extract the noise as well as the speech during a single time-frame. The environment background noise may not be stationary, thereby limiting the method to only employ short estimates of the background noise signal. Results are presented for experiments in various environments, showing a reduced noise level in the processed signal compared with the un-processed signal, and with preserved speech quality.

  • Low-complexity feature-mapped speech bandwidth extension
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing. - PISCATAWAY : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 1558-7916 .- 1558-7924. ; , s. 577-588
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Today's telecommunications systems use a limited audio signal bandwidth. A typical bandwidth is 0.3-3.4 kHz, but recently it has been suggested that mobile phone networks will facilitate an audio signal bandwidth of 50 Hz-7 kHz. This is suggested since an increased bandwidth will increase the sound quality of the speech signals. Since only few telephones initially will have this facility, a method extending the conventional narrow frequency-band speech signal into a wide-band speech signal utilizing the receiving telephone only is suggested. This will give the impression of a wide-band speech signal. The proposed speech bandwidth extension method is based on models of speech acoustics and fundamentals of human hearing. The extension maps each speech feature separately. Care has been taken to deal with implementation aspects, such as noisy speech signals, speech signal delays, computational complexity, and processing memory usage.

  • Coulomb-gauge calculation of the combined effect of correlation and QED for heliumlike highly charged ions
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 1050-2947. ; 92:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present numerical results for the energy shift due to the combination of Coulomb-correlation and quantum-electrodynamic effects in the ground state of heliumlike highly charged ions. The combined effect of two or more Coulomb interactions together with a single retarded photon, including radiative effects, is calculated for various atomic numbers in the range Z = 14 to Z = 50. One step in our computational scheme involves the evaluation of the Coulomb-screened self-energy at the two-photon level, and we present a detailed comparison between the Coulomb and Feynman gauges with regard to the various contributions to this effect.

  • Time Trends in Incidence and Mortality of Acute Myocardial Infarction, and All-Cause Mortality following a Cardiovascular Prevention Program in Sweden
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: PLOS ONE. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 10:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background In 1988, a cardiovascular prevention program which combined an individual and a population-based strategy was launched within primary health-care in Sollentuna, a municipality in Stockholm County. The aim of this study was to investigate time trends in the incidence of and mortality from acute myocardial infarction and all-cause mortality in Sollentuna compared with the rest of Stockholm County during a period of two decades following the implementation of a cardiovascular prevention program. Materials and Methods The average population in Sollentuna was 56,589 (49% men) and in Stockholm County (Sollentuna included) 1,795,504 (49% men) during the study period of 1987-2010. Cases of hospitalized acute myocardial infarction and death were obtained for the population of Sollentuna and the rest of Stockholm County using national registries of hospital discharges and deaths. Acute myocardial infarction incidence and mortality were estimated using the average population of Sollentuna and Stockholm in 1987-2010. Results During the observation period, the incidence of acute myocardial infarction decreased more in Sollentuna compared with the rest of Stockholm County in women (-22% vs. -7%; for difference in slope <0.05). There was a trend towards a greater decline in Sollentuna compared to the rest of Stockholm County in the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (in men), acute myocardial mortality, and all-cause mortality but the differences were not significant. Conclusion During a period of steep decline in acute myocardial infarction incidence and mortality in Stockholm County the municipality of Sollentuna showed a stronger trend in women possibly compatible with favorable influence of a cardiovascular prevention program.
