  • Praktiker som gör skillnad : Om den verb-inriktade metoden
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Historisk Tidskrift. - 0345-469X .- 2002-4827. ; 133:3, s. 335-354
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article discusses the so-called verb-oriented method and its role in the research project Gender and Work in early modern Sweden (GaW), which is based at Uppsala University. It provides a presentation of the GaW-database, which has been designed to allow analysis according to the verb-method. Finally, the article points out that this method can be combined with a number of different theoretical approaches as long as the focus is on practices. It is therefore compatible with the approaches of e.g., Judith Butler, Michel de Certeau, and Amartya Sen. Work is defined as "time-use with the purpose of making a living" and the article discusses why data on time-use, or actual work activities, are better suited for research into early modern Swedish working life than other types of data. It shows that activities are usually described in the sources by verb-phrases, and explains how and from what sources verb-phrases are collected and analyzed within the project. In order to allow for generalizations the verb-method presupposes large amounts of data. This is the rationale for the GaW-database, which at present includes around 5000 verb-phrases and 75000 data posts.

  • Mobila strategier. En rapport från arbetsgruppen Nya medier
  • 2007

  • Depletion of enterochromaffin-like cell histamine increases histidine decarboxylase and chromogranin A mRNA levels in rat stomach by a gastrin-independent mechanism.
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology. - 1502-7708. ; 31:10, s. 65-959
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Gastrin activates histidine decarboxylase (HDC) and increases HDC and chromogranin A (CGA) mRNA levels in histamine-producing enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells in the rat stomach. We have studied how histamine depletion by subcutaneous infusion of the HDC inhibitor alpha-fluoromethyl-histidine (alpha-FMH) affects how ECL cells respond to hypergastrinemia in terms of HDC and CGA mRNA levels. METHODS: In one experiment rats received alpha-FMH for 24 h. In another experiment rats received alpha-FMH, omeprazole (perorally), or a combination of the two drugs for 10 days. In a third experiment antrectomized rats were treated with alpha-FMH for 48 h. The circulating gastrin level, oxyntic mucosal histamine concentration, HDC activity, and HDC and CGA mRNA levels were determined. RESULTS: alpha-FMH for 24 h increased the HDC and CGA mRNA levels without increasing the serum gastrin concentration. alpha-FMH for 10 days increased the serum gastrin concentration twofold. alpha-FMH + omeprazole resulted in the same serum gastrin concentration as after omeprazole alone (eightfold increase). HDC mRNA levels were higher after alpha-FMH + omeprazole than after omeprazole alone. alpha-FMH alone induced an HDC mRNA level that was similar in magnitude to that observed after omeprazole, although the serum gastrin concentration after alpha-FMH was much lower. In antrectomized rats alpha-FMH increased the HDC and CGA mRNA levels without increasing the serum gastrin concentration. CONCLUSION: ECL-cell histamine depletion will increase mRNA levels for HDC and CGA by a gastrin-independent mechanism, possibly involving abolished histamine autofeedback inhibition.

  • Topo-chemical modification of fibres by grafting of carboxymethyl cellulose in pilot scale
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nordic Pulp and Paper Research Journal. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 0283-2631 .- 2000-0669. ; :1, s. 6-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to graft carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) on to bleached softwood kraft pulp at temperatures below 100°C and to do a pilot paper machine trial in order to examine the influence of the CMC on dewatering, sheet formation and mechanical properties. During the pilot trial, one CMC grafted pulp was compared to a pulp with 3 different refining degrees. It was shown that CMC-grafting improves the mechanical properties of paper with only a minor effect on the sheet density. It was also shown that the CMC grafting is less detrimental to dewatering than refining and at a certain tensile index a higher dry content after pressing could be reached. The formation number of the paper produced in the FEX trial was not significantly affected by the addition of CMC.

  • Development and evaluation of Fingu : a mathematics iPad game using multi-touch interaction
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Interaction Design and Children. - New York : ACM Press. - 9781450310079 ; , s. 204-207
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We describe the design background of the mathematics game Fingu for iPad aimed at 4 to 8 year old children. We first describe how Fingu theoretically can support children's development of fundamental arithmetic skills, focusing on conceptual subitizing, the embodiment of numerosity, and finger gnosis. Then we present the results of an exploratory micro-longitudinal study of the game with 11 5- and 6-year old children playing the game for several weeks and being filmed at three occasions. We discuss how their behavior with the game develops over time and can be related to the development of arithmetic skills. Finally we discuss how we will proceed testing the effectiveness of Fingu in a larger controlled study.
