  • Accentuated Factors of Handheld Computing
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Information Systems Development : Reflections, Challenges and New Directions - Reflections, Challenges and New Directions. - New York, NY : Springer New York. - 9781461449508 - 9781461449515 ; , s. 293-304
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The recent years of rapid development of mobile technologies creates opportunities for new user-groups in the mobile workforce to take advantage of in-formation systems (IS). However, to apprehend and harness these opportunities for mobile IS it is crucial to fully understand the user group and the mobile tech-nology. In this paper we deductively, from previous research on aspects on mobili-ty, synthesize a tentative analytical framework capturing factors accentuated in mobile IS design. We evaluate the framework based on criteria of completeness, distinctiveness, and simplicity. Eventually, these two steps develop the framework towards a theoretical contribution as theory for describing handheld computing from a designer’s perspective. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were made and the tentative framework was elaborated and confirmed.

  • The Right Tools for the Right Tasks: Meaningful Education for IS Professional
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Information Systems Development - Business Systems and Services: Modeling and Development. - New York, NY : Springer New York. - 9781441996459 - 9781441997906 ; , s. 115-123
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The predicament in which we find ourselves today is that many professionals lack a sufficient grounding in formal methods, tools and techniques to enable them to make an appropriate selection for different kinds of problem. This can mean that complexity remains unrecognized and ambiguous problem situations are addressed as if they were clear and straightforward, resulting in inadequate solutions that are not experienced as useful by clients. We are thus faced with a circular dilemma. Those who attempt to use, e.g. SSM are unable to do so effectively through lack of understanding. They are thus driven back to the need for formal methods, and the disadvantages inherent in these approaches which SSM was originally created to address. Thus, there is a need to reintroduce into the agenda of soft and Agile methods an understanding of the skills and tool sets offered by hard/formal approaches. New professionals require a comprehensive education in use of tools and techniques, including their complementarity. This will not be delivered by training individuals in application of particular methodologies in a piecemeal and fragmented way, but by thorough and rigorous examination of whole methodologies in use. Only then can they engage in practice in the real world and develop their own tool sets, from which to select in an informed way those most appropriate to a problem situation.

  • Better Support for User Participation Using Business Rules Approach?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Information Systems Development. Business Systems and Services: Modeling and Development.. - New York, NY : Springer New York. - 9781441997906 ; , s. 297-308
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • User participation in requirement analysis (RA) is necessary for IS quality and user acceptance. A prerequisite for meaningful user participation is that the coming users also understand the requirements. This understanding is made difficult by abstract and “technical” modelling languages and notations which require learning and experience. The Business Rules Approach (BRA) builds on a notion of Business Rules (BR) formulated in natural language sentences aimed at the business audience; hence BRA should make user participation easy. This is tested in a workshop with a vaccination expert (VE) in a project on designing a BR oriented, digital service for health care workers (HCWs). The results indicate that natural language BRs in RA really are easily understood and intuitive for the VE and that quality checking BRs requires no special learning.

  • A framework for a dynamic organizational memory information system
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1091-9392 .- 1532-7744. ; 9:2-3, s. 189-203
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organizational memory information systems (OMIS) implement important aspects of organizational memory with the aim of enhancing organizational effectiveness. We propose a 3-layered framework for a dynamic OMIS. The framework consists of a pragmatic layer to support the actual activity, a conceptual layer to store the concepts inherent in that activity, and a process layer to store the experience of performing that activity. Both the conceptual and process layers represent organizational memory repositories in the form of respective models. The implementation of OMIS assumes that any activity is the instantiation of relevant conceptual and process models and includes the reuse of knowledge stored in association with those models. In this way, organizational memory is always mapped to current activity, and its adequacy is constantly evaluated. This provides the potential for the models to evolve as a direct result of the current activity. A partial implementation of this framework to support epidemiological research is illustrated.

  • Conceptual development of an information systems framework for improving continuity in epidemiological research
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Epidemiology. - 0393-2990 .- 1573-7284. ; 14:6, s. 587-593
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lack of continuity is a problem for survey-based epidemiological research. Poor access to experience and inadequate retention of information means new projects seldom build on successful predecessors to the maximum possible extent. We have designed a data management framework which addresses this problem using a well-known information systems approach. Our ideas provide a means of storing data in a manner which reflects the original research concepts. This makes collected data accessible and understandable without reference to the questionnaire, and allows new questionnaires to be designed quickly and easily. Our framework provides a means for recording developmental, conceptual and other supporting information and documentation which is traditionally poorly conserved. We illustrate the components of the framework using a major Australian epidemiological project as a case study. Once the necessary software is developed, our framework will improve organisational memory within individual research units and has the potential to become a valuable support tool for survey-based research.

  • Swedish undergraduate information systems curricula : A comparative study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Advances in Information Systems Development - Information Systems Beyond 2020 : Information Systems Beyond 2020 (ISD2019 Proceedings) - Information Systems Beyond 2020 (ISD2019 Proceedings). - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2195-4968 .- 2195-4976. - 9783030496432 ; 39 LNISO, s. 131-145
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors do a comprehensive comparison of the Swedish Information Systems undergraduate programs in order to on the one hand get a better understanding of how the Swedish curriculum compares to the Australian and US counter parts and on the other hand also get an understanding of where the IS field has changed over time. This change is debated to get a clearer view of what courses should be core in a post 2020 curriculum. The study points to some significant overlaps where Foundations of Information Systems, Data and Information Management, and Systems Analysis and Design are important for both Swedish, Australian, and US undergraduate IS programs. The study also shows differences in focus in the different countries’ curricula, where the Swedish programs have a clear focus towards enterprise architecture and application development in comparison to both the Australian and US counterparts.
