  • Functionalized MXene/Halide Perovskite Heterojunctions for Perovskite Solar Cells Stable Under Real Outdoor Conditions
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 13:44
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the performance improvement in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) when MXenes are employed as transport layers, device stability studies are still missing. Especially under real outdoor conditions where devices are subjected to the synergy of multiple stressors. In this work, functionalized 2D titanium carbide (Ti3C2) MXene is employed in normal PSC configuration, at the interface between the halide perovskite and the hole transport layer. The functionalization of the Ti3C2 MXene is made utilizing the same organic additive passivating the halide perovskite layer. The functionalizing strategy creates a continuous link between the MXene and the halide perovskite layer. Champion MXene-based PSCs revealed a approximate to 22% efficiency, in comparison with the control device showing 20.56%. Stability analyses under ISOS protocols under different conditions (dark, continuous light irradiation and real outdoor analysis) reveal that the enhancement of the PSCs lifespan is always observed when the MXene layer is employed. Analysis under continuous light irradaition (ISOS-L) reveal an almost 100% retention of the efficiency for the MXene-modified device, and outdoor testing (ISOS-O) carried out for > 600 h reveals a T(80 )of approximate to 600 h, while the control device degrades completely. To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first report of the stability assesment of MXene-based PSCs carried out under real outdoor (ISOS-O) conditions.

  • A round robin study of flexible large-area roll-to-roll processed polymer solar cell modules
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: SOLAR ENERGY MATERIALS AND SOLAR CELLS. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-0248. ; 93:11, s. 1968-1977
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A round robin for the performance of roll-to-roll coated flexible large-area polymer solar-cell modules involving 18 different laboratories in Northern America, Europe and Middle East is presented. The study involved the performance measurement of the devices at one location (Riso DTU) followed by transportation to a participating laboratory for performance measurement and return to the starting location (Riso DTU) for re-measurement of the performance. It was found possible to package polymer solar-cell modules using a flexible plastic barrier material in such a manner that degradation of the devices played a relatively small role in the experiment that has taken place over 4 months. The method of transportation followed both air-mail and surface-mail paths.

  • Consensus stability testing protocols for organic photovoltaic materials and devices
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: SOLAR ENERGY MATERIALS AND SOLAR CELLS. - : Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam.. - 0927-0248. ; 95:5, s. 1253-1267
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Procedures for testing organic solar cell devices and modules with respect to stability and operational lifetime are described. The descriptions represent a consensus of the discussion and conclusions reached during the first 3 years of the international summit on OPV stability (ISOS). The procedures include directions for shelf life testing, outdoor testing, laboratory weathering testing and thermal cycling testing, as well as guidelines for reporting data. These procedures are not meant to be qualification tests, but rather generally agreed test conditions and practices to allow ready comparison between laboratories and to help improving the reliability of reported values. Failure mechanisms and detailed degradation mechanisms are not covered in this report.

  • Decoupling the effects of defects on efficiency and stability through phosphonates in stable halide perovskite solar cells
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Joule. - : CELL PRESS. - 2542-4351. ; 5:5, s. 1246-1266
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Understanding defects is of paramount importance for the development of stable halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, isolating their distinctive effects on device efficiency and stability is currently a challenge. We report that adding the organic molecule 3-phosphonopropionic acid (H3pp) to the halide perovskite results in unchanged overall optoelectronic performance while having a tremendous effect on device stability. We obtained PSCs with similar to 21% efficiency that retain similar to 100% of the initial efficiency after 1,000 h at the maximum power point under simulated AM1.5G illumination. The strong interaction between the perovskite and the H3pp molecule through two types of hydrogen bonds (H center dot center dot center dot I and O center dot center dot center dot H) leads to shallow point defect passivation that has a significant effect on device stability but not on the non-radiative recombination and device efficiency. We expect that our work will have important implications for the current understanding and advancement of operational PSCs.

  • Incorporation of Counter Ions in Organic Molecules : New Strategy in Developing Dopant-Free Hole Transport Materials for Efficient Mixed-Ion Perovskite Solar Cells
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 7:14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hole transport matertial (HTM) as charge selective layer in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) plays an important role in achieving high power conversion efficiency (PCE). It is known that the dopants and additives are necessary in the HTM in order to improve the hole conductivity of the HTM as well as to obtain high efficiency in PSCs, but the additives can potentially induce device instability and poor device reproducibility. In this work a new strategy to design dopant-free HTMs has been presented by modifying the HTM to include charged moieties which are accompanied with counter ions. The device based on this ionic HTM X44 dos not need any additional doping and the device shows an impressive PCE of 16.2%. Detailed characterization suggests that the incorporated counter ions in X44 can significantly affect the hole conductivity and the homogeneity of the formed HTM thin film. The superior photovoltaic performance for X44 is attributed to both efficient hole transport and effective interfacial hole transfer in the solar cell device. This work provides important insights as regards the future design of new and efficient dopant free HTMs for photovotaics or other optoelectronic applications.
