  • Worsening of Renal Function Among Hospitalized Patients With Acute Heart Failure: Phenotyping, Outcomes, and Predictors.
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Mayo Clinic proceedings. - : Elsevier BV. - 1942-5546 .- 0025-6196. ; 97:9, s. 1619-1630
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To define clinical phenotyping and its associated outcome of worsening of renal function (WRF) in hospitalized acute heart failure (AHF) patients.Latent class analysis was performed in 113 AHF patients who developed WRF within 72 hours in the DOSE (Diuretic Optimization Strategies Evaluation) trial (from March 2008 to November 2009) and ROSE-AHF (Renal Optimization Strategies Evaluation in Acute Heart Failure) trial (from September 2010 to March 2013) to identify potential WRF phenotypes. Clinical characteristics and outcome (in-hospital and post-discharge) were compared between different phenotypes. Two WRF phenotypes were identified by latent class analysis, which we named WRF minimally responsive to diuretics (WRF-MRD) and WRF responsive to diuretics (WRF-RD). Among the population, 58 (9.5%) developed WRF-MRD and 55 (9.0%) developed WRF-RD. Patients with WRF-MRD had more comorbidities than WRF-RD. In WRF-MRD, there were an early increase in serum creatinine, a smaller amount of net fluid loss and weight loss, and a higher rate of worsening or persistent heart failure over 72 hours. In contrast, for those with WRF-RD, they had faster in-hospital net fluid loss and weight loss and a better 60-day survival after discharge even compared with patients without WRF (P=.004). Furthermore, baseline chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and cystatin C were independent predictors of WRF-MRD, whereas serum hemoglobin and sodium predicted WRF-RD.Among hospitalized AHF patients, we identified two phenotypes of WRF with distinct response to heart failure treatment, predictors, and short-term prognosis after discharge. The results could help early differentiation of WRF phenotypes in clinical practice.

  • High-temperature superconductivity in sulfur hydride evidenced by alternating-current magnetic susceptibility
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: National Science Review. - : Oxford University Press. - 2095-5138 .- 2053-714X. ; 6:4, s. 713-718
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The search for high-temperature superconductivity is one of the research frontiers in physics. In the sulfur hydride system, an extremely high Tc (∼200 K) has been recently developed at pressure. However, the Meissner effect measurement above megabar pressures is still a great challenge. Here, we report the superconductivity identification of sulfur hydride at pressure, employing an in situ alternating-current magnetic susceptibility technique. We determine the superconducting phase diagram, finding that superconductivity suddenly appears at 117 GPa and Tc reaches 183 K at 149 GPa before decreasing monotonically with increasing pressure. By means of theoretical calculations, we elucidate the variation of Tc in the low-pressure region in terms of the changing stoichiometry of sulfur hydride and the further decrease in Tc owing to a drop in the electron–phonon interaction parameter λ. This work provides a new insight into clarifying superconducting phenomena and anchoring the superconducting phase diagram in the hydrides.

  • Application and analysis of flip mechanism in the melting process of a triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Energy Reports. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-4847. ; 9, s. 3989-4004
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to improve the characteristics of uneven melting in the melting process of the horizontal latent heat energy storage system, the triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit is taken as the research object, and the flip mechanism is applied to its melting process. Numerical simulation is used for the research, and the numerical model is verified by experimental data. The results show that under different dimensionless times, the melting performance of the unit can be significantly improved by a single flip. When the dimensionless time is 0.4576, it is found that the total melting time of the unit is reduced by 16.17 %, the average heat absorption rate is increased by 14.7 %, but the total heat energy absorption is reduced by 3.85 %. The results show that the addition of a flip can effectively shorten the melting time and increase the heat absorption rate, but it has a negative effect on the total heat absorption in one melting cycle. Moreover, through the comparison of dynamic flow rate, dynamic temperature response, and temperature interval, it is shown that the addition of flip effectively reduces the negative influence of the hard-to-melt zone on the melting performance of the unit during the melting process. The flip mechanism reduces the proportion of high-temperature phase change material in the melting process and makes the melting process more uniform.

  • Dense wavelength conversion and multicasting in a resonance-split silicon microring
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 93:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We experimentally demonstrate all-optical wavelength conversions in a 10 mu m radius resonance-split silicon microring resonator based on free carrier dispersion effect. The split resonance is caused by the mutual coupling between the two countertraveling modes inside the ring resonator. Dense wavelength conversions are performed at data rates from 500 Mbytes/s to 5 Gbytes/s and a dual-channel wavelength multicasting is realized at a data rate of 1.25 Gbytes/s. The resonance splitting phenomenon opens up opportunities to convert more closely spaced wavelengths, thus effectively increasing the system capacity.

  • System Performances of On-Chip Silicon Microring Delay Line for RZ, CSRZ, RZ-DB and RZ-AMI Signals
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Lightwave Technology. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0733-8724 .- 1558-2213. ; 26:21-24, s. 3744-3751
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We theoretically study the group-delay characteristics of a silicon microring resonator based on the coupled mode theory, and experimentally demonstrate error-free operations of an on-chip delay line using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) microring resonator with a 20-mu m radius. Four signals of different modulation formats are examined at 5 Gb/s, including return-to-zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ), return-to-zero duobinary (RZ-DB), and return-to-zero alternate-mark-inversion (RZ-AMI). Bit error rate (BER) measurements show that the maximal delay times with error-free operations are 80,95, 110, and 65 ps, respectively, corresponding to a fractional group delay of similar to 0.4, similar to 0.5, similar to 0.55, and similar to 0.35. The differences in delay and signal degradations have been investigated based on the signal spectra and pattern dependences. Although the delays are demonstrated in a single ring resonator, the analysis is applicable in slow-light resonance structures such as all-pass filters (APF) and coupled resonator optical waveguides (CROW).

  • Sensitive label-free and compact biosensor based on concentric silicon-on-insulator microring resonators
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X .- 2155-3165. ; 48:25, s. F90-F94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose an ultracompact parallel label-free biosensor based on concentric silicon-on-insulator microring resonators. Our numerical studies show that the proposed biosensor offers higher sensitivity and a larger detection area than conventional single-ring-based sensors. We analyze the detection sensitivity of the DNA hybridization by immobilizing the probe on top of the double concentric ring resonators and in the ring-ring air gap. For a concentric double-ring system with an area of 27: 646 mu m(2), the bulk detection sensitivity is 683 nm RIU-1. The sensitive uniformity of the system related to the optical field distribution is also studied.

  • Compact optical temporal differentiator based on silicon microring resonator
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 16:20, s. 15880-15886
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose and experimentally demonstrate a temporal differentiator in optical field based on a silicon microring resonator with a radius of 40 mu m. The microring resonator operates near the critical coupling region, and can take the first order derivative of the optical field. It features compact size thus is suitable for integration with silicon-on-insulator (SOI) based optical and electronic devices. The performance of this optical differentiator is tested using signals with typical shapes such as Gaussian, sinusoidal and square-like pulses at data rates of 10 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s.

  • Optically Tunable Delay Line in Silicon Microring Resonator Based on Thermal Nonlinear Effect
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics. - 1077-260X .- 1558-4542. ; 14:3, s. 706-712
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We experimentally demonstrate optically tunable delay fine in a silicon microring resonator with a 20-mu m radius. The delay-tuning mechanism is based on the red shift of the resonance induced by thermal nonlinear effect. We investigate the delay performance of three modulation formats-non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), and differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals at different data rates. Tunable delay is achieved by controlling the power of the continuous-wave (CW) pump with very low tuning threshold, which could be used in microring-resonator-based slow-light structure.

  • A Chromosome-centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP) to Characterize the Sets of Proteins Encoded in Chromosome 17
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Proteome Research. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1535-3893 .- 1535-3907. ; 12:1, s. 49-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report progress assembling the parts list for chromosome 17 and illustrate the various processes that we have developed to integrate available data from diverse genomic and proteomic knowledge bases. As primary resources, we have used GPMDB, neXtProt, PeptideAtlas, Human Protein Atlas (HPA), and GeneCards. All sites share the common resource of Ensembl for the genome modeling information. We have defined the chromosome 17 parts list with the following information: 1169 protein-coding genes, the numbers of proteins confidently identified by various experimental approaches as documented in GPMDB, neXtProt, PeptideAtlas, and HPA, examples of typical data sets obtained by RNASeq and proteomic studies of epithelial derived tumor cell lines (disease proteome) and a normal proteome (peripheral mononuclear cells), reported evidence of post-translational modifications, and examples of alternative splice variants (ASVs). We have constructed a list of the 59 "missing" proteins as well as 201 proteins that have inconclusive mass spectrometric (MS) identifications. In this report we have defined a process to establish a baseline for the incorporation of new evidence on protein identification and characterization as well as related information from transcriptome analyses. This initial list of "missing" proteins that will guide the selection of appropriate samples for discovery studies as well as antibody reagents. Also we have illustrated the significant diversity of protein variants (including post-translational modifications, PTMs) using regions on chromosome 17 that contain important oncogenes. We emphasize the need for mandated deposition of proteomics data in public databases, the further development of improved PTM, ASV, and single nucleotide variant (SNV) databases, and the construction of Web sites that can integrate and regularly update such information. In addition, we describe the distribution of both clustered and scattered sets of protein families on the chromosome. Since chromosome 17 is rich in cancer-associated genes, we have focused the clustering of cancer-associated genes in such genomic regions and have used the ERBB2 amplicon as an example of the value of a proteogenomic approach in which one integrates transcriptomic with proteomic information and captures evidence of coexpression through coordinated regulation.
