  • Synthesis and high pressure induced amorphization of C60 nanosheets
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 91:10, s. 103112-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • C-60 nanosheets with thicknesses in the nanometer range were synthesized by a simple method. Compared to bulk C-60, the lattice of the nanosheets is expanded by about 0.4%. In situ Raman spectroscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray diffraction under high pressures have been employed to study the structure of the nanosheets. The studies indicate that the bulk modulus of the C-60 nanosheets is significantly larger than that of bulk C-60. The C-60 cages in nanosheets can persist at pressures over 30 GPa, 3 GPa higher than for bulk C-60. These results suggest that C-60 crystals in even small size will be a potential candidate of superhard materials.

  • H2A ubiquitination is essential for Polycomb Repressive Complex 1-mediated gene regulation in Marchantia polymorpha
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Genome Biology. - : BioMed Central (BMC). - 1465-6906 .- 1474-760X. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) and PRC2 are chromatin regulators maintaining transcriptional repression. The deposition of H3 lysine 27 tri-methylation (H3K27me3) by PRC2 is known to be required for transcriptional repression, whereas the contribution of H2A ubiquitination (H2Aub) in the Polycomb repressive system remains unclear in plants. Results We directly test the requirement of H2Aub for gene regulation in Marchantia polymorpha by generating point mutations in H2A that prevent ubiquitination by PRC1. These mutants show reduced H3K27me3 levels on the same target sites as mutants defective in PRC1 subunits MpBMI1 and the homolog MpBMI1L, revealing that PRC1-catalyzed H2Aub is essential for Polycomb system function. Furthermore, by comparing transcriptome data between mutants in MpH2A and MpBMI1/1L, we demonstrate that H2Aub contributes to the PRC1-mediated transcriptional level of genes and transposable elements. Conclusion Together, our data demonstrates that H2Aub plays a direct role in H3K27me3 deposition and is required for PRC1-mediated transcriptional changes in both genes and transposable elements in Marchantia.

  • Urban Sustainability: Integrating Socioeconomic and Environmental Data for Multi-Objective Assessment
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI. - 2071-1050. ; 14:15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The large concentration of the world’s population in cities, along with rapid urbanization, have brought numerous environmental and socioeconomic challenges to sustainable urban systems (SUS). However, current SUS studies focus heavily on ecological aspects, rely on SUS indicators that are not supported by available data, lack comprehensive analytical frameworks, and neglect SUS regional differences. This paper develops a novel approach to assessing urban sustainability from regional perspectives using commonly enumerated socioeconomic statistics. It integrates land use and land cover change data and ecosystem service values, applies data mining analytics to derive SUS indicators, and evaluates SUS states as trade-offs among relevant SUS indicators. This synthetic approach is called the integrated socioeconomic and land-use data mining–based multi-objective assessment (ISL-DM-MOA). The paper presents a case study of urban sustainability development in cities and counties in Inner Mongolia, China, which face many environmental and sustainable development problems. The case study identifies two SUS types: (1) several large cities that boast well-developed economies, diversified industrial sectors, vital transportation locations, good living conditions, and cleaner environments; and (2) a few small counties that have a small population, small urban construction areas, extensive natural grasslands, and primary grazing economies. The ISL-DM-MOA framework innovatively synthesizes currently available socioeconomic statistics and environmental data as a unified dataset to assess urban sustainability as a total socio-environmental system. ISL-DM-MOA deviates from the current indicator approach and advocates the notion of a data-mining-driven approach to derive urban sustainability dimensions. Furthermore, ISL-DM-MOA diverges from the concept of a composite score for determining urban sustainability. Instead, it promotes the concept of Pareto Front as a choice set of sustainability candidates, because sustainability varies among nations, regions, and locations and differs between political, economic, environmental, and cultural systems.

  • Effective polymerization of C60 in SWNTs under high pressure and simultaneous UV light irradiation
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Sinica (Wuli Xuebao). - 1000-3290. ; 56:9, s. 5172-5175
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The C-60 @ SWNT ( peapod) samples were prepared by the vapor diffusion method. Polymerization of C60 molecules in single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) under high pressure and simultaneous irradiation of UV laser (325 nm) has been carried out for the first time by using diamond anvil cell. Raman spectra of the peapod samples decompressed from high pressure indicated that C60 molecules form one-dimensional orthorhombic polymer in SWNTs under UV laser irradiation at a high pressure of 21.5 GPa, which is lower than that for the polymerization of samples induced by high pressure only. The polymerization is an irreversible phase transition in the peapod.
