  • Characterizing the Positive Semidefiniteness of Signed Laplacians via Effective Resistances
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 IEEE 55th Conference on Decision and Control, CDC 2016. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781509018376 ; , s. 985-990
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A symmetric signed Laplacian matrix uniquely defines a resistive electrical circuit, where the negative weights correspond to negative resistances. The positive semidefiniteness of signed Laplacian matrices is studied in this paper using the concept of effective resistance. We show that a signed Laplacian matrix is positive semidefinite with a simple zero eigenvalue if, and only if, the underlying graph is connected, and a suitably defined effective resistance matrix is positive definite.

  • On Spectral Properties of Signed Laplacians With Connections to Eventual Positivity
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0018-9286 .- 1558-2523. ; 66:5, s. 2177-2190
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Signed graphs have appeared in a broad variety of applications, ranging from social networks to biological networks, from distributed control and computation to power systems. In this article, we investigate spectral properties of signed Laplacians for undirected signed graphs. We find conditions on the negative weights under which a signed Laplacian is positive semidefinite via the Kron reduction and multiport network theory. For signed Laplacians that are indefinite, we characterize their inertias with the same framework. Furthermore, we build connections between signed Laplacians, generalized M-matrices, and eventually exponentially positive matrices.

  • Density-functional theory study of point defect formation and diffusion in alpha-alumina and effects of applied strain and alloy doping
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Materials Today Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-4928. ; 34
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oxidation of alumina-forming alloys and breakdown of a-Al2O3 are important processes for alloys used in hightemperature environments. By using density-functional theory simulations, we investigate the formation and diffusion of three common point defects. Influences of diffusion pathway, axial strain and alloy doping on defect energetics during its formation and diffusion are systematically investigated. Results indicate a positive correlation between the diffusion energy barrier and the pathway length. We highlighted that diffusion barrier of vacancy defects can be reduced to that of interstitial defects by applying tensile strain, indicating that the strain state can transform the diffusion mechanism within a-Al2O3 . Moreover, the alloying dopants (Cr, Mo, Cu, Si, Y, Zr) investigated here can be categorized as: inhibitive, promotive, and inert, depending on their roles in determining the diffusion barrier of oxygen vacancy, which is analyzed by the element-dependent substitution energies, atomic radius, electronegativity, volumetric change, and electronic transition.

  • Exploring data validity in transportation systems for smart cities
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IEEE Communications Magazine. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0163-6804 .- 1558-1896. ; 55:5, s. 26-33
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Efficient urban transportation systems are widely accepted as essential infrastructure for smart cities, and they can highly increase a city°s vitality and convenience for residents. The three core pillars of smart cities can be considered to be data mining technology, IoT, and mobile wireless networks. Enormous data from IoT is stimulating our cities to become smarter than ever before. In transportation systems, data-driven management can dramatically enhance the operating efficiency by providing a clear and insightful image of passengers° transportation behavior. In this article, we focus on the data validity problem in a cellular network based transportation data collection system from two aspects: Internal time discrepancy and data loss. First, the essence of time discrepancy was analyzed for both automated fare collection (AFC) and automated vehicular location (AVL) systems, and it was found that time discrepancies can be identified and rectified by analyzing passenger origin inference success rate using different time shift values and evolutionary algorithms. Second, the algorithmic framework to handle location data loss and time discrepancy was provided. Third, the spatial distribution characteristics of location data loss events were analyzed, and we discovered that they have a strong and positive relationship with both high passenger volume and shadowing effects in urbanized areas, which can cause severe biases on passenger traffic analysis. Our research has proposed some data-driven methodologies to increase data validity and provided some insights into the influence of IoT level data loss on public transportation systems for smart cities.

  • Effects of substrates, film thickness and temperature on thermal emittance of Mo/substrate deposited by magnetron sputtering
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Vacuum. - : Elsevier BV. - 0042-207X .- 1879-2715. ; 128, s. 73-79
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The thermal emittance of the Mo film, as an IR-refiector in solar selective absorbing coatings, is the most important property. The effects of the substrate material, the substrate surface roughness, the film thickness and the temperature on the thermal emittance of the Mo/substrate have been investigated. A series of Mo films with increasing film thickness were deposited on two types of substrate materials (glass and stainless steel). A saturated Mo thickness of 50 nm is found to produce the lowest thermal emittance. The thermal emittance of the Mo film is reduced by decreasing the substrate surface roughness. The emittance of the optimal Mo film remains 0.05 from 25 degrees C to 400 degrees C, which can meet the optical requirements for the IR-reflector.

  • Investigation on low thermal emittance of Al films deposited by magnetron sputtering
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Infrared physics & technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1350-4495 .- 1879-0275. ; 75, s. 133-138
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A series of Al films with different thicknesses were deposited on polished stainless steel by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering as a metal IR-reflector layer in solar selective absorbing coating (SSAC). The effects of the film thickness and the temperature on the thermal emittance of the Al films are studied. An optimal thickness 78 nm of the Al film for the lowest total thermal emittance is obtained. The thermal emittance of the optimal Al film keeps close to 0.02 from 25 degrees C to 400 degrees C, which are low enough to satisfy the optical requirements in SSAC. The optical constants of the AI film are deduced by fitting the reflectance and transmission spectra using SCOUT software.

  • Study on the thermal stability of Al/NbTiSiN/NbTiSiON/SiO2 solar selective absorbing coating
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0038-092X .- 1471-1257. ; 119, s. 18-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, the NbTiSiN and NbTiSiON layers are used instead of NbTiN and NbTiON layers to further improve the thermal stability of Al/NbTiN/NbTiON/SiO2 multilayer solar selective absorbing coating. The thermal stability of Si-doped individual layers and multilayer coatings are investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show that Si incorporation into NbTiN (NbTiSiN) layer does not change its preferred orientation, and the Si-doped NbTiON (NbTiSiON) layer remains in amorphous phase. On the other hand, by introducing Si into NbTiN and NbTiON layers induce significant improvement of the oxidation resistance at 500 degrees C in air. After ageing in air at 500 degrees C for 2 h, the absorptance and emittance (at 400 degrees C) of Al/NbTiN/NbTiON/SiO2 and Al/NbTiSiN/NbTiSiON/SiO2 multilayer coatings change from 0.934/0.13 and 0.931/0.12 to 0.538/0.14 and 0.922/0.13, respectively. Meanwhile the surface roughness increases from 18.3 and 7.9 to 41.5 and 14.7 respectively, as atomic force microscopy (AFM) shows. The Al/NbTiSiN/NbTiSiON/SiO2 coating still has a high absorptance (0.910) and low emittance (0.13, at 400 degrees C) after ageing at 550 degrees C in vacuum for 100 h. It displays that Si-doping play an important role in the improvement of the thermal stability.
