  • Night-time scenarios in simulators : a prestudy of needs, knowledge and possible solutions
  • 2016
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The study in this publication investigates the need and potential for night-time scenarios in driving simulators, determines how such night-time scenarios could be reproduced and identifies the objects most important to reproduce. Although on average 12 out of every 24 hours are dark and considering that most situations are more demanding for drivers in dark conditions, simulations of driving scenarios with different degrees of darkness are not common. The project work comprised a pre-study that involved an investigation of the need and potential of night-time scenarios with the help of input from different stakeholders, consolidation of what is known up to now through benchmarking and state of the art, and a review of available technical solutions. The objective was to identify pros and cons with existing solutions and aspects that are important to consider in order to reproduce the most important components in realistic night-time scenarios. Based on the results, six important use cases were identified and two of these (‘Driver fatigue’ and ‘Objects without light sources’) were studied in more detail. It was concluded that for night-time scenarios there is enough darkness in general in the simulator environment. The question is whether it is possible to create sufficient contrast for objects that are meant to be observable. For daytime scenarios, the light levels in the simulator are clearly unrealistically low and this limitation might even trigger unwanted sleepiness.

  • Measuring patient-reported outcomes in haemophilia clinical research
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Haemophilia. - : Wiley. - 1351-8216 .- 1365-2516. ; 15:4, s. 843-852
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures have been used to assess quality of life and health state preferences from the patient's perspective. However, they have not been fully utilized in haemophilia clinical practice and research. A series of meetings were convened to review and document the state of the art in PROs relevant to haemophilia. Experts developed a process for selection of measures and identified published measures of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) relevant to patients with haemophilia. These were synthesized and reviewed. Patient preference measures were also identified and reviewed. Although the majority of measures were developed for and validated in adults, several measures were identified for use in paediatric populations. This paper recommends an approach to the selection of PROs for application in haemophilia clinical research and practice and identifies several potential measures relevant for application in haemophilia clinical research and practice.

  • Player Pairs Valuation in Ice Hockey
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th Workshop on Machine Learning and Data Mining for Sports Analytics. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030172732 - 9783030172749 ; , s. 82-92
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To overcome the shortcomings of simple metrics for evaluating player performance, recent works have introduced more advanced metrics that take into account the context of the players’ actions and perform look-ahead. However, as ice hockey is a team sport, knowing about individual ratings is not enough and coaches want to identify players that play particularly well together. In this paper we therefore extend earlier work for evaluating the performance of players to the related problem of evaluating the performance of player pairs. We experiment with data from seven NHL seasons, discuss the top pairs, and present analyses and insights based on both the absolute and relative ice time together.

  • Making sense of iconic symbols: a study of preschool children conducting a refuse-sorting task
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Environmental Education Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1350-4622 .- 1469-5871. ; 21:2, s. 256-274
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article is part of a larger project focusing upon explanatory illustrations that children encounter in pre- and primary school education. The research questions concerned (a) how preschool children make sense of iconic symbols when placing items of refuse on illustrations of refuse bins in a sorting task and (b) what stumbling blocks they encounter when interpreting these symbols. Video data were collected with 30 children between four and five years of age. From the children's verbal and non-verbal interactions, four different categories of sense-making were constructed: by material, by object type, by appearance and by function. Three stumbling blocks were identified. The first had to do with giving the symbols a different logical meaning to the intended one; the second related to what materials the different refuse items were made of; the third was being able to stick to one correct way of interpreting each symbol.

  • MRI morphology of the hippocampus in drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy: shape inflation of left hippocampus and correlation of right-sided hippocampal volume and shape with visuospatial function in patients with right-sided TLE
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Neuroscience. - : Elsevier BV. - 1532-2653 .- 0967-5868. ; 67, s. 68-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We sought to quantify the morphology in vivo of hippocampi in patients with drug resistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), prior to temporal lobe resection, and the correlation of surface-based shape analysis of morphology and clinical cognitive function.Thirty patients with drug-resistant TLE and twenty healthy controls underwent clinical neuropsychological testing, and brain MRI at Lund University Hospital prior to hippocampal resection. A neuroradiologist categorised radiological findings into normal hippocampus, subtle changes or definite hippocampal sclerosis. We manually segmented MRI of the hippocampus of participants using ANALYZE 11.0 software; and analysed hippocampal shape using SPHARM-PDM software. For radiologist visual-ratings of definite left hippocampal sclerosis in those with left-sided TLE, hippocampal volumes were significantly smaller compared to normal controls. In right-sided TLE we found contralateral shape inflation of the left hippocampus, partially confirming previous shape analytic studies of the hippocampus in TLE. We found significant correlation of volume and surface deflation of the right hippocampus in right-sided TLE with reduced performance on the two right-lateralised visuospatial memory tests, the Rey Complex Figure Test (Immediate and Delayed recall) and the Recognition Memory Test for faces. Decreased hippocampal volume was correlated with poorer performance on these tasks. The morphology of the hippocampus can be quantified via neuroimaging shape analysis in TLE. Contralateral shape inflation of the left hippocampus in right-sided TLE is intriguing, and may result from functional compensation and/or abnormal tissue. In right-sided TLE, hippocampal structural integrity, quantified as hippocampal shape, is correlated with lateralised visuospatial function.

  • När Agnes fick va solen så fattade man ju precis : Om illustrationer i undervisning av yngre elever
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Resultatdialog. - Stockholm : Vetenskapsrådet. - 9789173072472 ; , s. 246-254

  • Young primary students making sense of text and illustrations about how refuse can become soil
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Environmental Education Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1350-4622 .- 1469-5871. ; 23:8, s. 1150-1168
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2016 Taylor & Francis. Explanatory pictures and models are frequently used in teaching and learning situations. However, it seems to be simply assumed that they are always beneficial. In this article results from an investigation with 16 Swedish pupils aged 7–9year are presented based on an analysis that has examined how well this assumption holds up. Concepts from multi-modal theory have been used to investigate how young learners deal with illustrations and text from an early reader booklet about composting domestic refuse. The analysis suggests that expectations that illustrations facilitate the meaning-making of young pupils may be exaggerated. Although the booklet claimed to provide interactive support between image and text most of the examples show pupils ignoring pictures or misinterpreting vital information about composting in both the verbal and non-verbal material. The illustrations did not compensate for the most crucial deficiencies in the written text.
