  • Rigid limit for hypermultiplets and five-dimensional gauge theories
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : SPRINGER. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the rigid limit of a class of hypermultiplet moduli spaces appearing in Calabi-Yau compactifications of type IIB string theory, which is induced by a local limit of the Calabi-Yau. We show that the resulting hyperkahler manifold is obtained by performing a hyperkahler quotient of the Swann bundle over the moduli space, along the isometries arising in the limit. Physically, this manifold appears as the target space of the non-linear sigma model obtained by compactification of a five-dimensional gauge theory on a torus. This allows to compute dyonic and stringy instantons of the gauge theory from the known results on D-instantons in string theory. Besides, we formulate a simple condition on the existence of a non-trivial local limit in terms of intersection numbers of the Calabi-Yau, and find an explicit form for the hypermultiplet metric including corrections from all mutually non-local D-instantons, which can be of independent interest.

  • Exploring 5d BPS Spectra with Exponential Networks
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Annales de l'Institute Henri Poincare. Physique theorique. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1424-0637 .- 1424-0661. ; 20:12, s. 4055-4162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We develop geometric techniques for counting BPS states in five-dimensional gauge theories engineered by M theory on a toric Calabi–Yau threefold. The problem is approached by studying framed 3d–5d wall-crossing in the presence of a single M5 brane wrapping a special Lagrangian submanifold L. The spectrum of 3d–5d BPS states is encoded by the geometry of the manifold of vacua of the 3d–5d system, which further coincides with the mirror curve describing moduli of the Lagrangian brane. The information about the BPS spectrum is extracted from the geometry of the mirror curve by construction of a nonabelianization map for the exponential networks. For the simplest Calabi–Yau, C3 we reproduce the count of 5d BPS states and match predictions of 3d tt* geometry for the count of 3d–5d BPS states. We comment on applications of our construction to the study of enumerative invariants of toric Calabi–Yau threefolds.

  • The Vector-like Twin Higgs
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a version of the twin Higgs mechanism with vector-like top partners. In this setup all gauge anomalies automatically cancel, even without twin leptons. The matter content of the most minimal twin sector is therefore just two twin tops and one twin bottom. The LHC phenomenology, illustrated with two example models, is dominated by twin glueball decays, possibly in association with Higgs bosons. We further construct an explicit four-dimensional UV completion and discuss a variety of UV completions relevant for both vector-like and fraternal twin Higgs models.

  • The threefold way to quantum periods : WKB, TBA equations and q-Painlevé
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: SciPost Physics. - : SCIPOST FOUNDATION. - 2542-4653. ; 15:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show that TBA equations defined by the BPS spectrum of 5d N = 1 SU(2) Yang-Mills on S1 x R4 encode the q-Painleve III3 equation. We find a fine-tuned stratum in the physical moduli space of the theory where solutions to TBA equations can be obtained exactly, and verify that they agree with the algebraic solutions to q-Painleve. Switching from the physical moduli space to that of stability conditions, we identify two one-parameter deformations of the fine-tuned stratum, where the general solution of the q-Painleve equation in terms of dual instanton partition functions continues to provide explicit TBA solutions. Motivated by these observations, we propose a further extensions of the range of validity of this correspondence, under a suitable identification of moduli. As further checks of our proposal, we study the behavior of exact WKB quantum periods for the quantum curve of local P1 x P1.

  • Knot homologies and generalized quiver partition functions
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Letters in Mathematical Physics. - : Springer Nature. - 0377-9017 .- 1573-0530. ; 113:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We introduce generalized quiver partition functions of a knot K and conjecture a relation to generating functions of symmetrically colored HOMFLY-PT polynomials and corresponding HOMFLY-PT homology Poincare polynomials. We interpret quiver nodes as certain basic holomorphic disks in the resolved conifold, with boundary on the knot conormal L-K, a positive multiple of a unique closed geodesic, and with their (infinitesimal) boundary linking density measured by the adjacency matrix of the generalized quiver. The basic holomorphic disks that are quiver nodes appear in a certain U(1)-symmetric configuration. We propose an extension of the quiver partition function to arbitrary, not U(1)-symmetric, configurations as a function with values in chain complexes. The chain complex differential is trivial at the U(1)-symmetric configuration, under deformations the complex changes, but its homology remains invariant. We also study recursion relations for the partition functions connected to knot homologies. We show that, after a suitable change of variables, any (generalized) quiver partition function satisfies the recursion relation of a single toric brane in C-3.

  • Multi-cover skeins, quivers, and 3d N=2 dualities
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : SPRINGER. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The relation between open topological strings and representation theory of symmetric quivers is explored beyond the original setting of the knot-quiver correspondence. Multiple cover generalizations of the skein relation for boundaries of holomorphic disks on a Lagrangian brane are observed to generate dual quiver descriptions of the geometry. Embedding into M-theory, a large class of dualities of 3d N = 2 theories associated to quivers is obtained. The multi-cover skein relation admits a compact formulation in terms of quantum torus algebras associated to the quiver and in this language the relations are similar to wall-crossing identities of Kontsevich and Soibelman.

  • Physics and geometry of knots-quivers correspondence
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Communications in Mathematical Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0010-3616 .- 1432-0916. ; 379:2, s. 361-415
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The recently conjectured knots-quivers correspondence (Kucharski et al. in Phys RevD96(12):121902, 2017. arXiv:1707.02991, Adv Theor Math Phys 23(7):1849-1902, 2019. arXiv:1707.04017) relates gauge theoretic invariants of a knot K in the 3sphere to the representation theory of a quiver Q(K) associated to the knot. In this paper we provide geometric and physical contexts for this conjecture within the framework of Ooguri-Vafa large N duality (Ooguri and Vafa in Nucl Phys B 577:419-438, 2000), that relates knot invariants to counts of holomorphic curves with boundary on LK, the conormal Lagrangian of the knot in the resolved conifold, and corresponding Mtheory considerations. From the physics side, we show that the quiver encodes a 3d N = 2 theory T [Q(K)] whose low energy dynamics arises on the worldvolume of anM5 brane wrapping the knot conormal and we match the (K-theoretic) vortex partition function of this theory with the motivic generating series of Q(K). From the geometry side, we argue that the spectrum of (generalized) holomorphic curves on LK is generated by a finite set of basic disks. These disks correspond to the nodes of the quiver QK and the linking of their boundaries to the quiver arrows. We extend this basic dictionary further and propose a detailed map between quiver data and topological and geometric properties of the basic disks that again leads to matching partition functions. We also study generalizations of A-polynomials associated to Q(K) and (doubly) refined version of LMOV invariants (Ooguri and Vafa 2000; Labastida and Marino in Commun Math Phys 217(2):423-449, 2001. arXiv:hep-th/0004196; Labastida et al. in JHEP 11:007, 2000. arXiv:hep-th/0010102; Aganagic and Vafa in Large N duality, mirror symmetry, and a Q-deformed A-polynomial for knots. arXiv:1204.4709; Fuji et al. in Nucl Phys B 867:506-546, 2013. arXiv:1205.1515).

  • BPS graphs : from spectral network to BPS quivers
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We define “BPS graphs” on punctured Riemann surfaces associated with AN −1 theories of class S. BPS graphs provide a bridge between two powerful frameworks for studying the spectrum of BPS states: spectral networks and BPS quivers. They arise from degenerate spectral networks at maximal intersections of walls of marginal stability on the Coulomb branch. While the BPS spectrum is ill-defined at such intersections, a BPS graph captures a useful basis of elementary BPS states. The topology of a BPS graph encodes a BPS quiver, even for higher-rank theories and for theories with certain partial punctures. BPS graphs lead to a geometric realization of the combinatorics of Fock-Goncharov N - triangulations and generalize them in several ways.

  • S duality and Framed BPS States via BPS Graphs
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics. - 1095-0761 .- 1095-0753. ; 23:5, s. 1361-1410
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study a realization of S dualities of four-dimensional N = 2 class S theories based on BPS graphs. S duality transformations of the UV curve are explicitly expressed as a sequence of topological transitions of the graph, and translated into cluster transformations of the algebra associated to the dual BPS quiver. Our construction applies to generic class S theories, including those with non-maximal flavor symmetry, generalizing previous results based on higher triangulations. We study the the action of S duality on UV line operators, and show that it matches precisely with the mapping class group, by a careful analysis of framed wall-crossing. We comment on the implications of our results for the computation of three-manifold invariants via cluster partition functions.
