    • Utilization of spontaneous polarization electric field of ferroelectric materials to realize the spatial separation and fast transfer of photogenerated charges has been regarded as a promising strategy to fabricate highly efficient photocatalysts. Herein, a novel heterostructure is constructed by coupling potassium poly(heptazine imide) (K-PHI) with ferroelectric BaxSr1-xTiO3 (BxST) through a facile electrostatic self-assembly strategy. The ionic species of K-PHI can neutralize the polarized charges in BxST to form intimate interfacial contact, substantially boosting the internal electric field. Notably, K+ cations intercalated into K-PHI act as charge-transfer bridge to promote migration and separation of photogenerated charge carriers. As a result, a significantly improved H2-evolution rate of 1087.4 µmol h−1 g−1 with an apparent quantum yield (AQY) of 8.05% at 420 nm is achieved over 5% K-PHI/B0.8ST, standing among the best polymeric carbon nitride-based photocatalysts reported up to date. Moreover, the extreme stability of the catalysts is evidenced by remaining outstanding catalytic performance even after storage for half a year. This strategy can be extended to other alkali metal (Na+ and Cs+) modified polymeric materials, highlighting the key role of the bridging ions in constructing polarized heterostructure, which sheds light on the design of ferroelectric-assisted photocatalysts.

  • Comparative Analysis of the Humoral Immune Response to the EBV Proteome across EBV-Related Malignancies

    • Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is linked to multiple cancers, including classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), endemic Burkitt lymphoma (eBL), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL).Methods: Anti-EBV IgG and IgA antibody responses target-ing 202 sequences from 86 EBV proteins were measured using the same EBV whole proteome array across four case-control studies investigating EBV-positive cHL, eBL, NPC, and NKTCL (407 cases/620 controls). We grouped EBV-targeted antibodies into pathways by immunoglobulin type (IgA and IgG) and life-cycle stage (latent, immediate early lytic, early lytic, late lytic, and glycoprotein) and evaluated their associ-ation with each cancer type. In an additional analysis, we focused on the subset of 46 individual antibodies repre-senting the top candidates for each cancer and compared their associations across the four cancer types using multivariable linear regression models.Results: IgA antibody responses targeting all EBV life-cycle stages were associated with NPC but limited to anti-early lytic stage for cHL. NPC and eBL were associated with IgG antibodies across the viral life cycle; cHL with antibodies in the early lytic, late lytic and glyco-protein stages; and NKTCL with antibodies in the latent, immediate early lytic and early lytic phases. EBNA3A, BBLF1, BDLF4, and BLRF2 IgG antibodies were associated with all cancer types.Conclusions: Our observed similarities and differences across four EBV-associated cancers may inform EBV-related oncogenesis.Impact: Understanding the comparative humoral immune response across EBV-related cancers may aid in identifying shared etiologic roles of EBV proteins and inform unique pathogenic processes for each cancer.

    • This article focuses on clinical applications of arterial spin labeling (ASL) and is part of a wider effort from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) Perfusion Study Group to update and expand on the recommendations provided in the 2015 ASL consensus paper. Although the 2015 consensus paper provided general guidelines for clinical applications of ASL MRI, there was a lack of guidance on disease-specific parameters. Since that time, the clinical availability and clinical demand for ASL MRI has increased. This position paper provides guidance on using ASL in specific clinical scenarios, including acute ischemic stroke and steno-occlusive disease, arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, brain tumors, neurodegenerative disease, seizures/epilepsy, and pediatric neuroradiology applications, focusing on disease-specific considerations for sequence optimization and interpretation. We present several neuroradiological applications in which ASL provides unique information essential for making the diagnosis. This guidance is intended for anyone interested in using ASL in a routine clinical setting (i.e., on a single-subject basis rather than in cohort studies) building on the previous ASL consensus review.

  • Quality of life of older people in nursing homes in China-evaluation and application of the Chinese version of the life satisfaction questionnaire

    • Background: Chinese and global populations are aging, and more older people are living in nursing homes in China. However, there is a lack of research measuring nursing home residents' quality of life (QOL), and especially associations with nursing home types (publicly versus privately run). Therefore, this study aimed to determine the construct validity and internal consistency of the Chinese version of the life satisfaction questionnaire (LSQ-Chinese) and determine the associations between nursing home types (publicly versus privately run), residents' sociodemographic characteristics, and their QOL.Methods: A cross-sectional survey measuring QOL among older people living in nursing homes was conducted (n = 419). Confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha were used to assess the construct validity and reliability of the LSQ-Chinese. In addition, multivariate regression analysis was used to examine these associations.Results: Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable goodness-of-fit statistics for the seven-factor LSQ solution. All factors and the total scale had good internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha values > 0.70. The two factors with the highest QOL scores (higher scores indicate a more desirable state) were "physical symptoms" and "socioeconomic situation," and those with the lowest QOL scores were "quality of close-friend relationships" and "quality of daily activities fun". Residents living in privately run nursing homes had higher LSQ scores overall and for all factors except "physical symptoms" and "sickness impact" compared with publicly run nursing homes. Multivariate analyses indicated that marital status, number of chronic diseases, education level, main source of income, and nursing home type significantly contributed to the variance in the total LSQ scores. The associated sociodemographic variables differed between the factors, and the variable publicly versus privately run was significant for five of the seven factors.Conclusions: The LSQ is a suitable instrument for measuring the QOL of Chinese nursing home residents. The total LSQ score was higher among residents in privately run nursing homes than in publicly run ones. According to residents' needs, staff should work for person-centered activities, and facilitate residents' social interactions with friends, as both these aspects were scored relatively low.

    • AimTo explore the quality-of-life among community-dwelling older adults in China and to examine the associations between frailty, sociodemographic characteristics and quality-of-life.DesignA cross-sectional correlational study was adopted.MethodsQuestionnaire study of 311 community-dwelling older adults using the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire and FRAIL scale.ResultsHighest quality-of-life was found for the physical symptoms factor and the lowest for quality of everyday activities/fun. Frailty was associated with total quality-of-life and the physical symptoms and sickness impact factors. For total quality-of-life, the odds of being in the group with a median score or more decreased for frail older people (OR 0.30) versus non-frail and increased for those with medical insurance from employer versus basic (OR 2.30) and those doing exercise ≥30 min 3 days/week or more versus less (OR 2.12). Registered nurses caring for community-dwelling older adults should screen for and prevent frailty and encourage exercise to improve their quality-of-life.
