  • Industrial informatics design use and innovation : perspectives and services
  • 2010
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Industrial informatics as a field is currently expanding beyond improving the manufacture of goods to facilitating every aspect of the process, from after-market sales, to service production, sourcing, and e-maintenance, demonstrating the profound impact of informatics in modern society. Industrial Informatics Design, Use and Innovation: Perspectives and Services establishes not only a sound grounding in industrial informatics but it also provides a broad state-of-the-art review and showing connections and gaps in the current knowledge for researchers working in the field today. This compilation also represents guidance to those who design and use information technologies in industrial settings, and making it easier to create an informed basis for decisions.

  • Datasalen i vardagsrummet : distansundervisning på tekniska kurser via virtuella boxar
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Universitetspedagogiska konferensen 2019. - Umeå : Universitetspedagogik och lärandestöd (UPL), Umeå universitet. ; , s. 14-14
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Massification of the Intangible : An investigation into embodied meaning and information visualization
  • 2003
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The thesis addresses two related problems. It is argued that the materiality of physical artifacts serves the purpose of expressing abstract information. In contrast, the intangibility of IT is of such a kind that it poses different conditions for expressing abstract information. The background problem concerns conditions and possibilities of designing information visualization artifacts that retain the experiential qualities typically associated with physical artifacts. Massification design is introduced as a design ideal that aims towards a design of visualization artifacts that cater to the need of intersubjective understanding of abstract and intangible information. Massification design is further articulated as an ideal where the designed artifact as such bears witness of its own meaning. This ideal is put in contrast to design that depends on arbitrary, interpretative conventions for people's understanding of visualization artifacts. It is argued that design striving towards this ideal should be theoretically informed. The main problem of the thesis concerns to what extent the theory of embodied realism can serve as an informing theory for massification design. In order to investigate embodied realism as a candidate for informing massification design, two design projects are presented. Based on the design projects and associated evaluations, it is suggested that an embodied realist foundation for massification has the capacity to constrain and suggest form for expressions of abstract information. Suggestively, embodied realism may also inform design in such a way that it affects the experience of using the artifacts. The evaluations also suggest that design that draws on embodied meaning may come in conflict with conventional ways of expressing information. To further investigate a foundation for massification it is there is a need to investigate foundations that stays sensitive to conventional expressions. Additionally, it is suggested that massification design can be understood as striving towards authentic experiences of IT.

  • Myeloperoxidase Inhibition in Heart Failure With Preserved or Mildly Reduced Ejection Fraction: SATELLITE Trial Results.
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of cardiac failure. - 1532-8414. ; 30:1, s. 104-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inflammation is a key driver of heart failure (HF) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). AZD4831 inhibits extracellular myeloperoxidase, reduces inflammation and improves microvascular function in preclinical disease models. In this double-blind phase 2a study (SATELLITE; NCT03756285), patients with symptomatic HF, LVEF ≥40%, and elevated B-type natriuretic peptides were randomized 2:1 to once-daily oral AZD4831 5 mg or placebo for 90 days. We aimed to assess target engagement (primary endpoint: myeloperoxidase specific activity) and safety of AZD4831.Due to COVID-19, the study was terminated early after randomizing 41 patients (median age, 74.0 years; 53.7% male). Myeloperoxidase activity was reduced by >50% from baseline to day 30 and 90 in the AZD4831 group, with a placebo-adjusted reduction of 75% (95% confidence interval: 48, 88; nominal P <0.001). No improvements were noted in secondary/exploratory endpoints, apart from a trend in Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire overall summary score. No deaths or treatment-related serious adverse events occurred. AZD4831 treatment-related adverse events were generalized maculopapular rash, pruritus and diarrhoea (all n=1).AZD4831 inhibited myeloperoxidase and was well tolerated in patients with HF and LVEF ≥40%. Efficacy findings were exploratory due to early termination but warrant further clinical investigation of AZD4831.Few treatments are available for patients with the forms of heart failure known as 'heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction'. Current treatments do not target inflammation, which may play an important role in this condition. We tested a new drug called AZD4831 (mitiperstat), which reduces inflammation by inhibiting the enzyme myeloperoxidase. Among the 41 patients in our clinical trial, AZD4831 had a good safety profile and inhibited myeloperoxidase by the expected amount. Results mean we can conduct further trials to see whether AZD4831 reduces the symptoms of heart failure and improves patients' ability to take physical exercise.

  • The Antibody Society's antibody validation webinar series
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: mAbs. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1942-0862 .- 1942-0870. ; 12:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the wake of the reproducibility crisis and numerous discussions on how commercially available antibodies as research tool contribute to it, The Antibody Society developed a series of 10 webinars to address the issues involved. The webinars were delivered by speakers with both academic and commercial backgrounds. This report highlights the problems, and offers solutions to help the scientific community appropriately identify the right antibodies and to validate them for their research and development projects. Despite the various solutions proposed here, they must be applied on a case-by-case basis. Each antibody must be verified based on the content of the product sheet, and subsequently through experimentation to confirm integrity, specificity and selectivity. Verification needs to focus on the precise application and tissue/cell type for which the antibody will be used, and all verification data must be reported openly. The various approaches discussed here all have caveats, so a combination of solutions must be considered.
