  • The human secretome
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Science Signaling. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 1945-0877 .- 1937-9145. ; 12:609
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The proteins secreted by human cells (collectively referred to as the secretome) are important not only for the basic understanding of human biology but also for the identification of potential targets for future diagnostics and therapies. Here, we present a comprehensive analysis of proteins predicted to be secreted in human cells, which provides information about their final localization in the human body, including the proteins actively secreted to peripheral blood. The analysis suggests that a large number of the proteins of the secretome are not secreted out of the cell, but instead are retained intracellularly, whereas another large group of proteins were identified that are predicted to be retained locally at the tissue of expression and not secreted into the blood. Proteins detected in the human blood by mass spectrometry-based proteomics and antibody-based immuno-assays are also presented with estimates of their concentrations in the blood. The results are presented in an updated version 19 of the Human Protein Atlas in which each gene encoding a secretome protein is annotated to provide an open-access knowledge resource of the human secretome, including body-wide expression data, spatial localization data down to the single-cell and subcellular levels, and data about the presence of proteins that are detectable in the blood.

  • Production start-up phase - A comparison between New Product Development and Production Relocation
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th International Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789175197524 ; , s. 593-598
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New product development in a globalized industrial environment with a constant increasing competition, challenges the ways to perform production start-up and production relocation. A product development process focuses in general on product function and to avoid product quality problems. A production relocation focus also on avoiding product quality problems, but relocation is mostly related to forgotten or misunderstood information. The challenging situation due to a more global market is the increasing need for production relocation. In this paper, a literature review is performed investigating these three areas and relate them with industrial experience from production relocations. To summaries, the existing processes in industry today seem to be based on processes for product development. The results view that effectiveness in production relocation are dependent on technology and knowledge transfer and the production start-up process.

  • Partner relationship in couples living with atrial fibrillation
  • 2016
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis was to describe and explore how the partner relationship of patient–partner dyads isaffected following cardiac disease and, in particular, atrial fibrillation (AF) in one of the spouses. The thesis is based on four individual studies with different designs: descriptive (I), explorative (II, IV), and cross-sectional (III). Applied methods comprised a systematic review (I) and qualitative (II, IV) and quantitative methods (III). Participants in the studies were couples in which one of the spouses was afflicted with AF. Coherent with a systemic perspective, the research focused on the dyad as the unit of analysis. To identify and describe the current research position and knowledge base, the data for the systematic review were analyzed using an integrative approach. To explore couples’ main concern, interview data (n=12 couples) in study II were analyzed using classical grounded theory. Associations between patients and partners (n=91 couples) where analyzed through the Actor–Partner Interdependence Model using structural equation modelling (III). To explore couples’ illness beliefs, interview data (n=9 couples) in study IV were analyzed using Gadamerian hermeneutics.Study I revealed five themes of how the partner relationship is affected following cardiac disease: overprotection, communication deficiency, sexual concerns, changes in domestic roles, and adjustment to illness. Study II showed that couples living with AF experienced uncertainty as the common main concern, rooted in causation of AF and apprehension about AF episodes. The theory of Managing Uncertainty revealed the strategies of explicit sharing (mutual collaboration and finding resemblance) and implicit sharing (keeping distance and tacit understanding). Patients and spouses showed significant differences in terms of self-reported physical and mental health where patients rated themselves lower than spouses did (III). Several actor effects were identified, suggesting that emotional distress affects and is associated with perceived health. Patient partner effects and spouse partner effects were observed for vitality, indicating that higher levels of symptoms of depression in patients and spouses were associated with lower vitality in their partners. In study IV, couples’ core and secondary illness beliefs were revealed. From the core illness belief that “the heart is a representation of life,” two secondary illness beliefs were derived: AF is a threat to life, and AF can and must be explained. From the core illness belief that “change is an integral part of life,” two secondary illness beliefs were derived: AF is a disruption in our lives, and AF will not interfere with our lives. Finally, from the core illness belief that “adaptation is fundamental in life,” two secondary illness beliefs were derived: AF entails adjustment in daily life, and AF entails confidence in and adherence to professional care.In conclusion, the thesis result suggests that illness, in terms of cardiac disease and AF, affected and influenced the couple on aspects such as making sense of AF, responding to AF, and mutually incorporating and dealing with AF in their daily lives. In the light of this, the thesis results suggest that clinicians working with persons with AF and their partners should employ a systemic view with consideration of couple’s reciprocity and interdependence, but also have knowledge regarding AF, in terms of pathophysiology, the nature of AF (i.e., cause, consequences, and trajectory), and treatments. A possible approach to achieve this is a clinical utilization of an FSN based framework, such as the FamHC. Even if a formalized FSN framework is not utilized, partners should not be neglected but, rather, be considered a resource and be a part of clinical caring activities. This could be met by inviting partners to take part in rounds, treatment decisions, discharge calls or follow-up visits or other clinical caring activities. Likewise, interventional studies should include the couple as a unit of analysis as well as the target of interventions.

  • CREATING STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS – CURRENT STATE ANALYSIS
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The sixth Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789198097412
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper present result from three global companies regarding strategies for creating global instructions, the studies are from a current state perspective. The result is based from a survey with 65 respondents. The designers are responsible for instructions and are from two different areas; assembly and service market. Furthermore a workshop has been arranged were two of three companies participated. Three main issues towards formulating a strategy will be discussed; (1) Information carrier; the results reveal that the most common information carrier for instructions are, Paper, Personal meetings and Desktops. (2) Who is responsible for quality assurance, most answers were production engineers. (3) Are there any standards concerning instruction at your company today? The respondents answered yes or under development in over 80 % of the cases on the question; if it exist any standards today.

  • Technology transfer as apart of the business : Inter-organizational transfer strategies based on experiences of aircraft production
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Global Operations and Strategic Sourcing. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2398-5364 .- 2398-5372. ; 12:1, s. 151-171
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this paper is through a literature study and a study of the Saab offset cases to identify strategies to increase inter-organizational transfer capability.Design/Methodology/ApproachBased on a literature study and a study of three of Saab’s offset cases and Saab’s process for technology transfer.FindingsThis study has identified inter-organisational transfer strategies based on the importance of the hierarchy of decision-making and the change from capacity transfers to capability transfers in offset business. 1) The type of performance goals set in the business agreement decides how to realise the transfer. 2) The hierarchy of decision-making create a need to align the understanding of the performance goals between the different parts of the organisation, which affect the plans for how to transfer knowledge between the organizational as well as the individual levels. 3) To reach the performance goals of the technology transfer there need to be a balance between the disseminative capability of the sender and the absorptive capability of the receiver. LimitationsThis study is based on a single case within a relatively unique industry with an offset perspective and production transfers. Therefore, there is also a need for future studies to confirm the identified relationships within outsourcing/offset within other industries and other types of transfers.Originality/value: A change from capacity transfers to capability transfers in both outsourcing/offshoring and offset business indicates that more research should be placed on the disseminative capacity of the sender. The literature review revealed that the disseminative capacity of the sender has been the subject of less research than the absorptive capacity of the receiver.

  • What are the differences between related offset and outsourcing? : A case study of a related offset business at Saab
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : InderScience Publishers. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 14:2, s. 132-149
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, offset contracts have become more complex. For the seller to carry through and review the effects and the demands of an offset contract, they need a framework. The paper identifies five main differences between outsourcing and related offset, which are translated into activities to be included in a suggested related offset framework. The paper is based on an in-depth case study of a related offset business at Saab, a Swedish military aircraft producer. The analysis compared the studied case with an existing outsourcing process identified in literature. The paper contributes by providing an overview of the activities taking place during a related offset process and showing the effect of the different hierarchical levels involved in the process on the efficiency of the fulfilment of the offset business. This paper is based on a single case study, and the suggested differences should be verified through further case studies.

  • Bridging capability gaps in technology transfers within related offsets
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1741-038X .- 1758-7786. ; 27:5, s. 640-661
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how capability gaps can be identified and how they can be dealt with in aircraft technology transfers in future offset deals.Methodology – The study is based on lessons learned as identified from three case studies of technology transfers from Saab, a Swedish aircraft manufacturing company to South Africa, the Czech Republic, and India.Findings – The capability gap between sender and receiver has to be dealt with on two levels: on an organizational level; and on an individual level. It is proposed that the disseminative capacity constitutes the ability to assess the capability gap between the sender and receiver, and to convert this assessment to adaptations of the product and production process to include in an industrialization process. On the individual level, the capability-raising activities were connected to employees’ knowledge, Personal Development Plans for the transfer of explicit knowledge, as well as on-the-job training to facilitate the exchange of tacit knowledge.Research limitations –The research is based on case studies from one company.Originality/value – The paper focuses on the context of offset and reports on actual experiences from a capability perspective of technology transfers within the aircraft manufacturing area. It proposes a structured way of identifying and bridging the capability gap within such transfers.
