  • Dark Matter benchmark models for early LHC Run-2 Searches : Report of the ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physics of the Dark Universe. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-6864. ; 27
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This document is the final report of the ATLAS-CMS Dark Matter Forum, a forum organized by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations with the participation of experts on theories of Dark Matter, to select a minimal basis set of dark matter simplified models that should support the design of the early LHC Run-2 searches. A prioritized, compact set of benchmark models is proposed, accompanied by studies of the parameter space of these models and a repository of generator implementations. This report also addresses how to apply the Effective Field Theory formalism for collider searches and present the results of such interpretations.

  • Chemical engineering of cationic distribution in spinel ferrite nanoparticles : the effect on the magnetic properties
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 26:7, s. 6325-6334
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A set of ∼9 nm CoFe2O4 nanoparticles substituted with Zn2+ and Ni2+ was prepared by thermal decomposition of metallic acetylacetonate precursors to correlate the effects of replacement of Co2+ with the resulting magnetic properties. Due to the distinct selectivity of these cations for the spinel ferrite crystal sites, we show that it is possible to tailor the magnetic anisotropy, saturation magnetization, and interparticle interactions of the nanoparticles during the synthesis stage. This approach unlocks new possibilities for enhancing the performance of spinel ferrite nanoparticles in specific applications. Particularly, our study shows that the replacement of Co2+ by 48% of Zn2+ ions led to an increase in saturation magnetization of approximately 40% from ∼103 A m2 kg−1 to ∼143 A m2 kg−1, whereas the addition of Ni2+ at a similar percentage led to an ∼30% decrease in saturation magnetization to 68–72 A m2 kg−1. The results of calculations based on the two-sublattice Néel model of magnetization match the experimental findings, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in the strategic design of spinel ferrite nanoparticles with targeted magnetic properties through doping/inversion degree engineering.

  • Probing top quark neutral couplings in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory at NLO in QCD
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Top quark pair production in association with a Z-boson or a photon at the LHC directly probes neutral top-quark couplings. We present predictions for these two processes in the Standard Model (SM) Effective Field Theory (EFT) at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. We include the full set of CP-even dimension-six operators that enter the top-quark interactions with the SM gauge bosons. For comparison, we also present predictions in the SMEFT for top loop-induced HZ production at the LHC and for t (t) over bar production at the ILC at NLO in QCD. Results for total cross sections and differential distributions are obtained and uncertainties coming from missing higher orders in the strong coupling and in the EFT expansions are discussed. NLO results matched to the parton shower are available, allowing for event generation to be directly employed in an experimental analyses. Our framework provides a solid basis for the interpretation of current and future measurements in the SMEFT, with improved accuracy and precision.

  • Phenomenology of Charged Higgs Bosons and B-meson Decays
  • 2009
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • For more than 30 years the Standard Model has been the theoretical foundation for particle physics. The theory has been verified successfully by experimental tests. Its biggest shortcoming is the non-discovery of the Higgs boson, responsible for giving the other particles masses. Despite its success there are hints that the Standard Model is not the complete theory and many extensions of it, such as supersymmetry, have been proposed. Extended theories often predict the existence of a charged Higgs boson and its detection will be a clear sign of physics beyond the Standard Model. The main focus in this thesis is on various phenomenological aspects of the charged Higgs boson. For favorable mass and couplings direct detection is shown to be possible at the Large Hadron Collider in production with an associated W boson. It is also shown how a light charged Higgs can have measurable effects on spin correlations in decays of pair-produced top quarks. The charged Higgs boson can also be seen indirectly, in for example B-meson decays, which can be used to put constraints on its mass and fermion couplings. Exclusion limits in two supersymmetric models are given together with a comparison with the discovery potentials for the LHC experiments. A tool for calculating properties, such as masses and decays, of both charged and neutral Higgs bosons in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model is also presented. B-meson decays can also be used to test aspects of the strong interaction. Part of this thesis deals with improving and applying phenomenological models to B-meson decays. Although these models are not derived from first principles, their success shows that they capture important features of non-perturbative strong interactions.

  • Constraining anomalous gluon self-interactions at the LHC: a reappraisal
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2018:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anomalous self-interactions of non-abelian gauge fields can be described by higher dimensional operators featuring gauge-invariant combinations of the field strengths. In the case of QCD, the gluon self-interactions start to be modified at dimension six by operators of the type GGG, with G the gluon field strength tensor, possibly leading to deviations in all observables and measurements that probe strong interactions at very small distances. In this work we consider the sensitivity to the triple gluon operator of a series of observables at the LHC in di-jet, three- and multi-jet final states and heavy-quark production. We critically re-examine the robustness of long-standing as well as more recent proposals addressing issues such as the validity of the EFT expansion and the impact of higher order QCD corrections. Our results support the conclusion that multi-jet observables can reliably bound these anomalous interactions to the level that their impact on other key observables at the LHC, involving for example top quark and Higgs production, can be safely neglected. We also highlight the potential of using previously suggested angular observables in three-jet events at the LHC to further constrain these interactions.

  • High-Moment FeCo Magnetic Nanoparticles Obtained by Topochemical H-2 Reduction of Co-Ferrites
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Applied Sciences. - : MDPI AG. - 2076-3417. ; 12:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Featured Application Metallic nanoparticles with a high value of magnetization have potential interest for application in biomedicine, catalysis, composite permanent magnets, and other fields. Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles of different stoichiometries synthesized by a sol-gel autocombustion method were used as a starting material to obtain high-moment Fe50Co50 and Fe66Co34 metal nanoparticles by topochemical hydrogen reduction. Structural and magnetic investigations confirmed the formation of FeCo nanoparticles with crystallite sizes of about 30 nm and magnetization at 0.5 T of ~265 Am-2/kg (0 K), which was larger than the expected bulk value, likely because of the incorporation in the body-centered cubic (bcc) FeCo structure of the residual C atoms present on the surface of the oxide particles. Temperature-dependent magnetization measurements in the H-2 atmosphere were also performed to investigate in detail the reduction mechanism and the effect of an external magnetic field on the process efficiency.
