  • And Summoning Spirits from the Gut: Reykjavik
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Sequences Real-Time Art Festival, Reykjavik, Iceland.
  • Konstnärligt arbete (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • And Summoning Spirits from the Gut is an ongoing project consisting of series of performances that re-present individual accounts, stories and memories, of public monument in a particular city. Focused on the personal and the subjective the project is aimed at producing stories that in some way arise from or through a monument rather than those that are inscribed into it's plinth or base. Recollections are gathered through interviews with select individuals in a city who are asked to select a monument to which they have a particular opinion, a specific perspective or a personal memory. These stories are then rewritten from a first person perspective as if being recalled by the monument itself. They are presented from an actor who is asked to project her or his voice from the monument in an attempt to present these stories from the site that produced them or in a sense to speak the personal through this public. The actor's costume, character and props are all patterned upon the story that the monument now tells.

  • Anteckningar om en ickeantropcentrisk social praktik
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Paletten. - 0031-0352. ; 2012:4, s. 286-287
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article seeks to chart a new, or perhaps more expansive, course for an area within the arts called social practice, or socially engaged practice. The aim of the text is to open up boundaries that have formed as attempts to delimit, determine, and canonize this area of art increase. Our approach is to apply a non-anthropocentric perspective to social practice in order to move conceptions of the social beyond humans as the only actors and towards inclusion of objects, things, words, memories, dreams, and forces—basically all of the things that make up our social world. Our method of extension may seem a bit weird, absurd, and perhaps even anachronistic to some, but we believe that it has broad potential to allow some unpredictability and potentiality into a field that has become increasingly literal, strict, and didactic. • Becoming Real: A Magpie’s Recognition of Self
  • 2010
  • Konstnärligt arbete (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This artist's book comprises drawings and a text concerning the coming into being of a Magpie as a parable of the connection between an individual’s notion of self and their overall understanding of their role in society. The Magpie (or Skata) was chosen due to the performativity of this mischievous bird, ubiquitous in Gothenburg, Sweden. Magpies are also one of the only birds that has been shown to recognize itself in a mirror. This text imagines what a magpie might be thinking when it sees its reflection for the first time, asking questions such as, could this recognition of selfhood lead the Magpie to an understanding of its role in society? The text should be read as a kind of fable, paraphrased and influenced by a number of thinkers who examine self-awareness, performativity, and social engagement. The book also features a text comparing Lacan's mirror-stage with Freud's Fort / Da Game by Samo Tomsic, a Slovenian philosopher and researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht, The Netherlands.

  • GIBCA Speak Easy
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Gothenburg Biennial for Contemporary Art, Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • Konstnärligt arbete (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The GIBCA Speak Easy (GSE) was a temporary social space serving as a platform for presentation, performance and conversation around issues central to the 2011 Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art. GSE aimed to create a casual and convivial environment like a café or pub, with bar, music and a stage for presentations/performances where each evening artists from the biennial were encouraged to talk about their work, present research or performances to an assembled public. The space also served as a site for students from Gothenburg University to present their work, performances or other events. This collaboration provided students a unique pedagogical opportunity to take part in discussions, talks and performances, with some of the most acclaimed artists on the international art scene. The artists included; Isaac Julien, Antonio Vega Macotela, Wim Botha, Reena Kallat, Ernesto Neto, Liam Gillick, Zarina Bhimji, Goldin+Senneby and Matthew Buckingham, to mention a few.
