  • Closing Data Gaps and Paving the Way for Pan-European Fire Safety Efforts : Part II—Terminology of Fire Statistical Variables
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Fire Technology. - 0015-2684. ; 59:4, s. 1969-2000
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A well-defined terminology of fire-related variables is important for correct analyses and supporting knowledge-based decisions regarding the evaluation of building fires at the European level. After developing an overview of current practices for fire statistics in Part I, the terminology used and the data collected by the EU Member States and eight other countries regarding fire incidents, property damage and human losses were mapped to increase awareness of their practice and support a comprehensive assessment of several fire statistical datasets. A questionnaire was distributed to relevant authorities responsible for the collection, elaboration/analysis, and fire statistical data publications to define and select the essential variables for an appropriate fire assessment and fire incident description. Based on the results of the questionnaire able to identify the essential fire statistical variables and a detailed analysis of current definitions adopted in the fire statistics of the EU Member States and other countries, a common terminology is proposed to collect the necessary data in the EU Member States and obtain meaningful datasets based on standardised terms and definitions. The results will generate essential outputs to move towards harmonised fire statistics at the EU level and contribute to an appropriate analysis able to improve fire prevention and fire mitigation in building fires.

  • Polarized neutron Laue diffraction on a crystal containing dynamically polarized proton spins
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Crystallography. - 1600-5767 .- 0021-8898. ; 46:1, s. 30-34
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A polarized neutron Laue diffraction experiment on a single crystal of neodymium-doped lanthanum magnesium nitrate hydrate containing polarized proton spins is reported. By using dynamic nuclear polarization to polarize the proton spins, it is demonstrated that the intensities of the Bragg peaks can be enhanced or diminished significantly, whilst the incoherent background, due to proton spin disorder, is reduced. It follows that the method offers unique possibilities to tune continuously the contrast of the Bragg reflections and thereby represents a new tool for increasing substantially the signal-to-noise ratio in neutron diffraction patterns of hydrogenous matter.

  • CIAO1 and MMS19 de fi ciency : A lethal neurodegenerative phenotype caused by cytosolic Fe-S cluster protein assembly disorders
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Genetics in Medicine. - : Elsevier. - 1098-3600 .- 1530-0366. ; 26:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The functionality of many cellular proteins depends on cofactors; yet, they have only been implicated in a minority of Mendelian diseases. Here, we describe the first 2 inherited disorders of the cytosolic iron-sulfur protein assembly system. Methods: Genetic testing via genome sequencing was applied to identify the underlying disease cause in 3 patients with microcephaly, congenital brain malformations, progressive developmental and neurologic impairments, recurrent infections, and a fatal outcome. Studies in patient-derived skin fibroblasts and zebrafish models were performed to investigate the biochemical and cellular consequences. Results: Metabolic analysis showed elevated uracil and thymine levels in body fluids but no pathogenic variants in DPYD, encoding dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase. Genome sequencing identified compound heterozygosity in 2 patients for missense variants in CIAO1, encoding cytosolic iron-sulfur assembly component 1, and homozygosity for an in-frame 3-nucleotide deletion in MMS19, encoding the MMS19 homolog, cytosolic iron-sulfur assembly component, in the third patient. Profound alterations in the proteome, metabolome, and lipidome were observed in patient-derived fibroblasts. We confirmed the detrimental effect of deficiencies in CIAO1 and MMS19 in zebrafish models. Conclusion: A general failure of cytosolic and nuclear iron-sulfur protein maturation caused pleiotropic effects. The critical function of the cytosolic iron-sulfur protein assembly machinery for antiviral host defense may well explain the recurrent severe infections occurring in our patients. • Characterising sustainability requirements : A new species, red herring, or just an odd fish?
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: 2017 IEEE/ACM 39th International Conference on Software Engineering. - 9781538626733 - 9781538626740 ; , s. 3-12
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Requirements articulating the needs of stakeholders are critical to successful system development and key to influencing their long-term effects. As the concept of sustainability has entered the discourse of a number of software-related computing fields, so has the term 'sustainability requirement'. However, it is unclear whether sustainability requirements areand should be different from how we already understand softwarerequirements. This paper presents the results of a corpus assisted discourse analysis study that explored the concept of sustainability requirements in order to understand how the term is being used in software and requirements engineeringand related fields. The results of this study reveal that theterm 'sustainability requirement' is generally used ambiguously and reveals significant segmentation across different fields. Ourdetailed analysis of selected influential papers highlights the segmented use of the term and suggests key focus questions that need to be addressed to establish a shared operative understanding of the term.
