  • Use case characterization, KPIs and preferred suitable frequency ranges for future 5G systems between 6 GHz and 100 GHz
  • 2015
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this deliverable use cases and KPIs of interest for mmMAGIC are characterized. Eight usecases suitable for 5G systems operating in the range 6-100GHz are identified in terms ofrequirements. In particular, the following use cases are analyzed: Media on demand; Cloudservices; Dense urban society with distributed crowds; Smart offices; Immersive 5G earlyexperience in targeting hot spots; 50+Mbps everywhere; Moving hot spots; Tactileinternet/video augmented robotic control and remote-robot manipulation surgery. For each ofthe use cases, the more critical KPIs are identified and the gap from the current technologyis also described. An analysis of frequency ranges for future 5G systems between 6 GHz and 100 GHz is reported. A frequency assessment study is conducted in order to compare the frequency ranges for the suitability of delivering key KPIs.

  • Frame Structure Design for Future Millimetre Wave Mobile Radio Access
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps), 4-8 Dec. 2016. - 2166-0069.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 5th generation cellular systems will extend the operation to above 6 GHz to meet extreme data rate requirements. This sets new requirements for the air interface design. In this paper, we propose several frame structure solutions from the mmMAGIC project [1], which address the challenges of using higher carrier frequencies. These solutions include subframe structures for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and filter-bank multicarrier modulation (FBMC), demodulation reference signal (DMRS) design, backhauling, synchronization signal design and beam measurement reference signal design. Further research is being conducted to refine the overall frame structure solution.

  • Evaluation of Waveforms for Mobile Radio Communications Above 6 GHz
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps), 4-8 Dec. 2016. - 2166-0069.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper provides a high level comparison of several multi-carrier and single-carrier waveforms based on the evaluations performed in mmMAGIC project. The waveforms are assessed for the performance indicators that are relevant to mobile radio communication above 6 GHz, specially the millimeter wave frequencies. The evaluations are performed in mmMAGIC waveform simulators under common assumptions on carrier frequencies, waveform parameters, channel and impairment models. The evaluation results reveal that OFDM is suitable for above 6 GHz communication. For above ↑30 GHz communication, OFDM with PAPR reduction and DFTS-OFDM are both promising options. Moreover, some potential enhancements to OFDM (use of window/pulse shape, subband filters, unique word, zero tailing), parametrization of FBMC, and constrained envelop continuous phase modulation for above 6 GHz communication have been discussed.

  • Initial multi-node and antenna transmitter and receiver architectures and schemes; Deliverable D5.1
  • 2016
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This deliverable provides the initial concepts and solutions from the technical work related to multi-antenna and multi-node transceiver schemes in millimetre wave (denoted as 6-100GHz) spectrum. It also briefly presents the use cases on which the work will be based and categorises the solutions in terms of their applicability to access, backhaul and relay deployments. Another important contribution from this report is the modelling of the hardware impairments in millimetre wave transceivers and the analysis of their impact on system performance.
