  • 1/J corrections to semiclassical AdS/CFT states from quantum Landau-Lifshitz model
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics B. ; 735, s. 127-171
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One way to relate semiclassical string states and dual gauge theory states is to show the equivalence between their low-energy effective 2d actions. The gauge theory effective action, which is represented by an effective Landau-Lifshitz (LL) model, was previously found to match with the string theory world-sheet action up to the first two orders in the effective parameter $\tilde{\lambda} ={\lambda / J^2}$, where $\lambda$ is the `t Hooft coupling and $J$ is the total $R$-charge. Here we address the question if quantizing the effective LL action reproduces the subleading 1/J corrections to the spin chain energies as well as the quantum corrections to the string energies. We demonstrate that this is indeed the case provided one chooses an appropriate regularization of the effective LL theory. Expanding near the BPS vacuum, we show that the quantum LL action gives the same 1/J corrections to energies of BMN states as found previously on the gauge theory and string theory sides. We also compute the subleading $1/J^2$ corrections and show that these too match with corrections computed from the Bethe ansatz. We also compare the results from the LL action with a more direct computation from the spin chain. We repeat the same computation for the $\beta$-deformed LL action and find that the quantum LL result is again equal to the 1/J correction computed from the $\beta$-deformed Bethe ansatz equations. We also quantize the LL action near the rotating circular and folded string solutions, generalizing the known gauge/string results for 1/J corrections to the classical energies. We emphasize the simplicity of this effective field theory approach as compared to the full quantum string computations.

  • Classical/quantum integrability in AdS/CFT
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 05, s. 024-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss the AdS/CFT duality from the perspective of integrable systems and establish a direct relationship between the dimension of single trace local operators composed of two types of scalar fields in = 4 super Yang-Mills and the energy of their dual semiclassical string states in AdS5 × S5. The anomalous dimensions can be computed using a set of Bethe equations, which for ``long'' operators reduces to a Riemann-Hilbert problem. We develop a unified approach to the long wavelength Bethe equations, the classical ferromagnet and the classical string solutions in the SU(2) sector and present a general solution, governed by complex curves endowed with meromorphic differentials with integer periods. Using this solution we compute the anomalous dimensions of these long operators up to two loops and demonstrate that they agree with string-theory predictions.

  • Superspace calculation of the four-loop spectrum in N = 6 supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :12, s. 074-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using N = 2 superspace techniques we compute the four-loop spectrum of single trace operators in the SU(2) x SU(2) sector of ABJM and ABJ supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories. Our computation yields a four-loop contribution to the function h(2)(lambda) (and its ABJ generalization) in the magnon dispersion relation which has fixed maximum transcendentality and coincides with the findings in components given in the revised versions of arXiv:0908.2463 and arXiv:0912.3460. We also discuss possible scenarios for an all-loop function h(2)(lambda) that interpolates between weak and strong couplings.

  • Computing Three-Point Functions for Short Operators
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :3, s. 096-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We compute the three-point structure constants for short primary operators of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory to leading order in the inverse coupling by mapping the problem to a flat-space string theory calculation. We check the validity of our procedure by comparing to known results for three chiral primaries. We then compute the three-point functions for any combination of chiral and non-chiral primaries, with the non-chiral primaries all dual to string states at the first massive level. Along the way we find many cancellations that leave us with simple expressions, suggesting that integrability is playing an important role.

  • Supersymmetric Yang-Mills, spherical branes, and precision holography
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : SPRINGER. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using supersymmetric localization we compute the free energy and BPS Wilson loop vacuum expectation values for planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on S-d in the strong coupling limit for 2 <= d < 6. The same calculation can also be performed in supergravity using the recently found spherical brane solutions. We find excellent agreement between the two sets of results. This constitutes a non-trivial precision test of holography in a non-conformal setting. The free energy of maximal SYM on S-6 diverges in the strong coupling limit which might signify the onset of little string theory. We show how this divergence can be regularized both in QFT and in supergravity. We also consider d = 7 with a small negative 't Hooft coupling and show that the free energy and Wilson loop vacuum expectation value agree with the results from supergravity after addressing some subtleties.

  • Strings, Gravitons, and Effective Field Theories
  • 2016
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis concerns a range of aspects of theoretical physics. It is composed of two parts. In the first part we motivate our line of research, and introduce and discuss the relevant concepts. In the second part, four research papers are collected. The first paper deals with a possible extension of general relativity, namely the recently discovered classically consistent bimetric theory. In this paper we study the behavior of perturbations of the metric(s) around cosmologically viable background solutions. In the second paper, we explore possibilities for particle physics with low-scale supersymmetry. In particular we consider the addition of supersymmetric higher-dimensional operators to the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and study collider phenomenology in this class of models. The third paper deals with a possible extension of the notion of Lie algebras within category theory. Considering Lie algebras as objects in additive symmetric ribbon categories we define the proper Killing form morphism and explore its role towards a structure theory of Lie algebras in this setting. Finally, the last paper is concerned with the computation of string amplitudes in four dimensional models with reduced supersymmetry. In particular, we develop general techniques to compute amplitudes involving gauge bosons and gravitons and explicitly compute the corresponding three- and four-point functions. On the one hand, these results can be used to extract important pieces of the effective actions that string theory dictates, on the other they can be used as a tool to compute the corresponding field theory amplitudes.

  • The ABJM Hagedorn Temperature from Integrability
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We use the quantum spectral curve to compute the Hagedorn temperature for ABJM theory in terms of the interpolating function h(lambda). At weak coupling we compute this temperature up to eight-loop order, showing that it matches the known tree-level and two-loop results. At strong coupling we compute the dependence numerically, showing that it is consistent with expectations from supergravity and the plane-wave limit for the four leading terms in the strong coupling expansion, up to an overall shift of the zero-point energy for type IIA string theory on AdS4 x DOUBLE-STRUCK CAPITAL CP3. We conjecture an analytic form for this shift to leading order that is consistent with our numerical results.
