  • Studenters uppmärksamhet under föreläsningar
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings utvecklingskonferens 09 Lunds Universitet. - 9789197797429 ; , s. 112-120
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract

  • WHO Grade Loses Its Prognostic Value in Molecularly Defined Diffuse Lower-Grade Gliomas.
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Oncology. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 2234-943X. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: While molecular insights to diffuse lower-grade glioma (dLGG) have improved the basis for prognostication, most established clinical prognostic factors come from the pre-molecular era. For instance, WHO grade as a predictor for survival in dLGG with isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation has recently been questioned. We studied the prognostic role of WHO grade in molecularly defined subgroups and evaluated earlier used prognostic factors in the current molecular setting.Material and Methods: A total of 253 adults with morphological dLGG, consecutively included between 2007 and 2018, were assessed. IDH mutations, codeletion of chromosomal arms 1p/19q, and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A/B (CDKN2A/B) deletions were analyzed. Results: There was no survival benefit for patients with WHO grade 2 over grade 3 IDH-mut dLGG after exclusion of tumors with known CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion (n=157) (log-rank p=0.97). This was true also after stratification for oncological postoperative treatment and when astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas were analyzed separately. In IDH-mut astrocytomas, residual tumor volume after surgery was an independent prognostic factor for survival (HR 1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03; p=0.003), but not in oligodendrogliomas (HR 1.02; 95% CI 1.00-1.03; p=0.15). Preoperative tumor size was an independent predictor in both astrocytomas (HR 1.03; 95% CI 1.00-1.05; p=0.02) and oligodendrogliomas (HR 1.05; 95% CI 1.01-1.09; p=0.01). Age was not a significant prognostic factor in multivariable analyses (astrocytomas p=0.64, oligodendrogliomas p=0.08).Conclusion: Our findings suggest that WHO grade is not a robust prognostic factor in molecularly well-defined dLGG. Preoperative tumor size remained a prognostic factor in both IDH-mut astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas in our cohort, whereas residual tumor volume predicted prognosis in IDH-mut astrocytomas only. The age cutoffs for determining high risk in patients with IDH-mut dLGG from the pre-molecular era are not supported by our results.

  • General method for atomistic spin-lattice dynamics with first-principles accuracy
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9969 .- 2469-9950. ; 99:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a computationally efficient and general first-principles based method for spin-lattice simulations for solids and clusters. The method is based on a coupling of atomistic spin dynamics and molecular dynamics simulations, expressed through a spin-lattice Hamiltonian, where the bilinear magnetic term is expanded up to second order in displacement. The effect of first-order spin-lattice coupling on the magnon and phonon dispersion in bcc Fe is reported as an example, and we observe good agreement with previous simulations. We also illustrate the coupled spin-lattice dynamics method on a more conceptual level, by exploring dissipation-free spin and lattice motion of small magnetic clusters (a dimer, trimer, and tetramer). The method discussed here opens the door for a quantitative description and understanding of the microscopic origin of many fundamental phenomena of contemporary interest, such as ultrafast demagnetization, magnetocalorics, and spincaloritronics.

  • Screening fathers for postpartum depression can be cost-effective : an example from Sweden
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Affective Disorders. - : Elsevier. - 0165-0327 .- 1573-2517. ; 241, s. 154-163
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Postpartum depression negatively affects the whole family and its prevalence in Sweden ranges between 6-10% for fathers and 13-16% for mothers. However, only mothers in Sweden are currently routinely screened.Aim: The aim of this study was to determine if a postpartum depression screening for fathers in Stockholm County could be cost-effective.Methods: National Swedish databases were used to find registry data and a literature review was undertaken to identify the model data inputs associated with postpartum depression in Sweden. The generated evidence was used to build a Markov model in TreeAge. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to account for parameter uncertainties. Alternative scenario analyses were further undertaken to test the assumptions in the base case analysis. Results: A postpartum screening for depression in fathers is cost-effective in base case and alternative scenarios. The results indicate that the screening program is associated with lower costs and higher health effects. The results were sensitive to variables of quality adjusted life years for the depressed fathers, probabilities of remission in treatment and no treatment groups and start age and productivity losses. The probabilistic sensitivity analysis resulted in a 70% probability of the postnatal depression screening intervention being cost-effective.Limitations: The current study only uses secondary data; therefore future research should assess the cost-effectiveness of screening fathers for depression. Conclusion: The postpartum screening intervention for fathers could be cost-effective compared to no screening. Future research should replicate the potential cost-effectiveness for screening fathers for postpartum depression.

  • FARMFLOW - A dynamic model for phosphorus mass flow, simulating conventional and organic management of a Swedish dairy farm
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Agricultural Systems. - : Elsevier BV. - 0308-521X. ; 94:2, s. 431-444
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A farm systems mass-balance calculation model, FARMFLOW, was applied to a case study comparing organic and conventional management of a Swedish experimental dairy farm, Ojebyn. Parameterisation of the model is implemented using detailed field data from the Ojebyn farm where the two management systems have been run parallel for more than 11 years. Simulations were made to compare the stocks, flows and resulting balances of phosphorus (P) in the two systems during six crop rotations (36 years). In addition, a maximum animal density scenario was tested, in order to analyse the effects of increased production intensity. Results show that FARMFLOW can be a useful tool for analysing the impact of management oil internal farm P dynamics, as well as imports and exports. The organic management results in a higher proportion of internal P flows whereas the conventional system relies more on imports of P in feed and mineral fertilisers. In both management systems, the crop rotation cause large temporal and spatial variation ill the application of manure P to the soil system. The resulting field specific soil P accumulation can indicate which fields to target with changed fertilisation management. In the maximum animal density scenario, both management systems led to an application rate of manure P ill excess of crop demands. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Simulation of Phosphorus, Zinc and Cadmium Mass Flow in Dairy Farming Systems
  • 2007
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A simulation model, FARMFLOW, was developed for the calculation of phosphorus (P), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) stocks, flows and balances in different parts of a dairy farming system. The simulated continuous change in element stocks within the farming system enables evaluation of the long-term effects of management practices. The FARMFLOW model reproduces feedback mechanisms of the internal cycling of nutrients and trace elements between crops and animals on the dairy farm in feed and manure. In addition, FARMFLOW reproduces the balancing feedbacks in the system, consisting of export of elements in milk, crops and animals as well as losses from the soil system. Field data from a case study at the Swedish experimental farm Öjebyn were used to parameterise FARMFLOW. At Öjebyn, organic and conventional management practices were run in parallel over 12 years. Simulations were made over 6 crop rotations, i.e. 36 years. The simulated effects of the management practices on the stocks, flows and balances of P, Zn and Cd are presented for the organic farming system (OFS) and for the conventional farming system (CFS) at Öjebyn. The simulated field-specific element accumulation rates were mainly governed by the difference in manure application rate between the fields, arising from differences in field size, and by differences in losses between the fields, arising from differences in the initial elemental content of the fields. Simulations with increasing animal density in the two management systems showed that FARMFLOW is useful in predicting the impact of intensification on, e.g. the manure P application rates. Annual variations in mass flows, e.g. yields, and element concentrations were observed at the Öjebyn farm. In order to evaluate the impact on the element stocks, flows and balances of variations in the system, FARMFLOW was parameterised with input data including these variations. For P, the variations generated moderate variations in the farm gate P balances, and the variations did not cause a shift in the balances around the policy target of zero. For Zn, it was shown that even the highest simulated accumulation rates of the two systems did not cause soil Zn concentrations risking adverse effects on soil fertility in a 36 year perspective. For Cd, the variations can lead to up to 20% higher removal of Cd in harvested crops than average values.

  • Removal of metals from landfill leachate by sorption to activated carbon, bone meal and iron fines.
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Hazardous Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-3336 .- 0304-3894. ; 189, s. 749-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sorption filters based on granular activated carbon, bone meal and iron fines were tested for their efficiency of removing metals from landfill leachate. Removal of Al, As, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sr and Zn were studied in a laboratory scale setup. Activated carbon removed more than 90% of Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn and Ni. Ca, Pb, Sr and Zn were removed but less efficiently. Bone meal removed over 80% of Cr, Fe, Hg, Mn and Sr and 20-80% of Al, Ca, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn. Iron fines removed most metals (As, Ca, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Pb, Sr and Zn) to some extent but less efficiently. All materials released unwanted substances (metals, TOC or nutrients), highlighting the need to study the uptake and release of a large number of compounds, not only the target metals. To remove a wide range of metals using these materials two or more filter materials may need to be combined. Sorption mechanisms for all materials include ion exchange, sorption and precipitation. For iron fines oxidation of Fe(0) seems to be important for metal immobilisation.
