  • Assessing the Validity and Cover Rate of the National Swedish Hernia Register
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: CLINICAL EPIDEMIOLOGY. - : Dove Press. - 1179-1349. ; 13, s. 1129-1134
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To assess the validity and cover rate of the Swedish hernia register. Material and Methods: Since the start of the Swedish Hernia register an annual review of randomly selected hospitals has been carried out, and since 2013 in a more standardized form to allow a systematic data collection and evaluation. 10% of all clinics were randomly selected each year in a specific region of Sweden, ensuring a systematic validation of all regions from north to south. Data from 2013 to 2018 were analyzed regarding data quality and from 2014 to 2018 regarding cover rate. All operations registered at the validated clinics were compared with the Swedish Hernia Register to assess cover rate. Fifty operations were randomly selected at each clinic and data in the Swedish Hernia register were compared with the medical records to evaluate data quality. Results: Fifty-five clinics was evaluated and a total of 73,764 variables were compared with the medical records. Cover rate between 2014 and 2018 was 97%. The proportion of correct variables was 98% between 2013 and 2018. Most frequent errors were ASA score, date at which the patient was put on the waiting list and postoperative complications. Conclusion: This unique validation of a national hernia register shows a high cover rate and good quality of data. Efforts to maintain and improve national registers are of great importance. Research with data from the Swedish hernia register should be evaluated on the basis of the results presented in this study.

  • Genome-wide TDT analysis in a localized population with a high prevalence of multiple sclerosis indicates the importance of a region on chromosome 14q
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Genes and Immunity. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1466-4879 .- 1476-5470. ; 4:8, s. 559-563
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Epidemiological studies show that susceptibility to multiple sclerosis (MS) has a strong genetic component, but apart from the HLA gene complex, additional genetic factors have proven difficult to map in the general population. Thus, localized populations, where MS patients are assumed to be more closely related, may offer a better opportunity to identify shared chromosomal regions. We have performed a genome-wide scan with 834 microsatellite markers in a data set consisting of 54 MS patients and 114 healthy family members. A group of families from a small village were possible to track back to common ancestors living in the 17th century. We used single marker- and haplotype-based transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) analysis and nonparametric linkage analysis to analyze genotyping data. Regions on chromosomes 2q23–31, 6p24–21, 6q25–27, 14q24–32, 16p13–12 and 17q12–24 were found to be in transmission disequilibrium with MS. Strong transmission disequilibrium was detected in 14q24–32, where several dimarker haplotypes were in transmission disequilibrium in affected individuals. Several regions showed modest evidence for linkage, but linkage and TDT were both clearly positive only for 17q12–24. All patients and controls were also typed for HLA class II genes; however, no evidence for a gene–gene interaction was observed.

  • Two genome-wide linkage disequilibrium screens in Scandinavian multiple sclerosis patients
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of Neuroimmunology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1872-8421 .- 0165-5728. ; 143:1-2, s. 101-106
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the first two genome-wide screens for linkage disequilibrium between putative multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility genes and genetic markers performed in the genetically homogenous Scandinavian population, using 6000 microsatellite markers and DNA pools of approximately 200 MS cases and 200 controls in each screen. Usable data were achieved from the same 3331 markers in both screens. Nine markers from eight genomic regions (1p33, 3q13, 6p21, 6q14, 7p22, 9p21, 9q21 and Xq22) were identified as potentially associated with MS in both screens. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. • Electronic structure of complex copper systems probed by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering at Cu L3 edge
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physica. B, Condensed matter. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0921-4526 .- 1873-2135. ; 404:20, s. 3559-3566
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have used X-ray absorption (XA) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectroscopies to study a series of copper compounds, namely Cu2O, CuO, Cu(OH)2, CuCl2, Cu2S, CuSO4, malachite (Cu2(CO3)2(OH)2) and atacamite (CuCl2·3Cu(OH)2). Cu 2p XA spectra provide information about oxidation states. Divalent copper gives a single narrow line due to excitations into the empty 3d state, whereas monovalent copper gives a broad band at higher energy due to transitions to 4s states. Chemical shifts of the main line in the Cu2+ XA spectra of different compounds are observed but in some cases they are too small to make a clear distinction between the species. It is shown that RIXS at the Cu 2p edge has a great potential to distinguish between the species due to large differences in spectral shapes for the same energy of the incident photon beam. First evidence for the possibility of detecting chemical composition of copper compounds is presented and discussed in details.

  • In situ X-ray absorption study of copper films in ground water solutions
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0009-2614 .- 1873-4448. ; 447:1-3, s. 54-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study illustrates how the damage from copper corrosion can be reduced by modifying the chemistry of the copper surface environment. The surface modification of oxidized copper films induced by chemical reaction with Cl− and in aqueous solutions was monitored by in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The results show that corrosion of copper can be significantly reduced by adding even a small amount of sodium bicarbonate. The studied copper films corroded quickly in chloride solutions, whereas the same solution containing 1.1 mM prevented or slowed down the corrosion processes.
