  • Polarized inclusive leptoproduction, lN→hX, and the hadron helicity density matrix ρ(h) : Possible measurements and predictions
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. Particles and fields. - 0556-2821 .- 1089-4918. ; 54:1, s. 828-837
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss the production of hadrons in polarized lepton-nucleon interactions and in the current jet fragmentation region; using the QCD hard scattering formalism we compute the helicity density matrix of the hadron and show how its elements, when measurable, can give information on the spin structure of the nucleon and the spin dependence of the quark fragmentation process. The cases of ρ vector mesons and Λ baryons are considered in more detail and, within simplifying assumptions, some estimates are given

  • A Bacterial Photosynthetic Enzymatic Unit Modulating Organic Transistors with Light
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Electronic Materials. - : Blackwell Publishing Ltd. - 2199-160X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The photochemical core of every photosynthetic apparatus is the reaction center, a transmembrane enzyme that converts photons into charge-separated states across the biological membrane with an almost unitary quantum yield. A light-responsive organic transistor architecture, which converts light into electrical current by exploiting the efficiency of this biological machinery, is presented. Proper surface tailoring enables the integration of the bacterial reaction center as photoactive element in organic transistors, allowing the transduction of its photogenerated voltage into photomodulation of the output current up to two orders of magnitude. This device architecture, termed light-responsive electrolyte-gated organic transistor, is the prototype of a new generation of low-power hybrid bio-optoelectronic organic devices.

  • Tracking the sociomaterial traces of affect at the crossroads of affect and practice theories
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Qualitative research in organization and management. - : EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1746-5648 .- 1746-5656. ; 14:3, s. 295-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose Affect is relevant for organization studies mainly for its potential to reveal the intensities and forces of everyday organizational experiences that may pass unnoticed or pass in silence because they have been discarded from the orthodoxy of doing research "as usual." The paper is constructed around two questions: what does affect "do" in a situated practice, and what does the study of affect contribute to practice-based studies. This paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The authors chose a situated practice - interviewing - focusing on the dynamic character of the intra-actions among its heterogeneous elements. What happens to us, as persons and researchers, when we put ourselves inside the practices we study? The authors tracked the sociomaterial traces left by affect in the transcript of the interviews, in the sounds of the voices, in the body of the interviewers, and in the collective memories, separating and mixing them like in a mixing console. Findings The reconstruction, in a non-representational text, of two episodes related to a work accident makes visible and communicable how affect circulates within a situated practice, and how it stiches all the practice elements together. The two episodes point to different aspects of the agency of affect: the first performs the resonance of boundaryless bodies, and the second performs the transformative power of affect in changing a situation. Originality/value The turn to affect and the turn to practice have in a common interest in the body, and together they contribute to re-opening the discussion on embodiment, embodied knowledge, and epistemic practices. Moreover, we suggest an inventive methodology for studying and writing affect in organization studies.

  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Workshop on Diquarks III. - Singapore : World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society. - 9810236352 ; , s. 70-80
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a formalism for studying the exclusive production or decay of mesons with any value of the internal orbital angular momentum L. As an application, we discuss the production of meson pairs (involving tensor and pseudotensor mesons) in photon-photon collisions.

  • Production of meson pairs, involving tensor and pseudotensor mesons, in photon-photon collisions
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Zeitschrift für Physik C Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0170-9739 .- 1431-5858. ; 76:3, s. 537-547
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Starting from a bound-state model of weakly bound quarks for (q [`(q)]) mesons, we derive a formalism for computing the production or decay of such mesons, whatever the value of their internal orbital angular momentum L. That approach appears as a natural generalization of the Brodsky-Lepage formalism (valid only for L=0) that has been widely used in recent years for the computation of exclusive processes in perturbative QCD . We here apply it to the production, in photon-photon collisions, of: i) tensor-meson pairs; ii) pseudotensor-meson pairs; iii) hybrid pairs made of a pion and a pseudotensor meson. The numerical results we obtain allow for some hope of experimentally identifying such pairs, in the charged channels, at high-energy e+e- colliders of the next generation, provided integrated luminosities as high as » 1040 cm-2 can be reached.

  • Genome-wide association analyses identify 18 new loci associated with serum urate concentrations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 45:2, s. 145-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elevated serum urate concentrations can cause gout, a prevalent and painful inflammatory arthritis. By combining data from >140,000 individuals of European ancestry within the Global Urate Genetics Consortium (GUGC), we identified and replicated 28 genome-wide significant loci in association with serum urate concentrations (18 new regions in or near TRIM46, INHBB, SEMBT1, TMEM171, VEGFA, BAZ1B, PRKAG2, STC1, HNF4G, A1CF, ATXN2, UBE2Q2, IGF1R, NFAT5, MAF, HLF, ACVR1B-ACVRL1 and B3GNT4). Associations for many of the loci were of similar magnitude in individuals of non-European ancestry. We further characterized these loci for associations with gout, transcript expression and the fractional excretion of urate. Network analyses implicate the inhibins-activins signaling pathways and glucose metabolism in systemic urate control. New candidate genes for serum urate concentration highlight the importance of metabolic control of urate production and excretion, which may have implications for the treatment and prevention of gout.

  • Theranostic hexosomes for cancer treatments : an in vitro study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: New Journal of Chemistry. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1144-0546 .- 1369-9261. ; 41:4, s. 1558-1565
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have formulated and investigated innovative lipid-based nanoparticles characterized by a reverse hexagonal liquid crystalline inner structure (hexosomes). These nanoparticles were doped with a potent, highly water insoluble anticancer drug, namely docetaxel, and stabilized by a mixture of commercial and folate- and rhodamine-conjugated Pluronic F108. Thus, they simultaneously possess therapeutic, imaging, and targeting properties toward cancer cells. The morphological and structural aspects of the hexosomes were investigated at different temperatures (10, 25, 37, and 50 °C), and our results demonstrate good performance in terms of stability of these nanoparticles. The latter was furthermore confirmed by the very slow and continuous release profile of docetaxel observed in drug release experiments. Although it was not possible to assess a specific compartmentalization of the dye, this formulation allowed the successful visualization of HeLa cells. Finally, cytotoxic assays showed a 20-fold higher toxic effect of the drug-doped hexosomes against HeLa cells with respect to the free (not loaded in hexosomes) anticancer drug. On the whole, these results indicate that this formulation is a potential theranostic tool in oncology.

  • Seventy-five genetic loci influencing the human red blood cell
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 492:7429, s. 369-375
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anaemia is a chief determinant of global ill health, contributing to cognitive impairment, growth retardation and impaired physical capacity. To understand further the genetic factors influencing red blood cells, we carried out a genome-wide association study of haemoglobin concentration and related parameters in up to 135,367 individuals. Here we identify 75 independent genetic loci associated with one or more red blood cell phenotypes at P < 10(-8), which together explain 4-9% of the phenotypic variance per trait. Using expression quantitative trait loci and bioinformatic strategies, we identify 121 candidate genes enriched in functions relevant to red blood cell biology. The candidate genes are expressed preferentially in red blood cell precursors, and 43 have haematopoietic phenotypes in Mus musculus or Drosophila melanogaster. Through open-chromatin and coding-variant analyses we identify potential causal genetic variants at 41 loci. Our findings provide extensive new insights into genetic mechanisms and biological pathways controlling red blood cell formation and function.
