  • MULTI-PARTICLE EMISSION FROM Ar-31 AT ISOLDE
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica, Series B.. - 1509-5770 .- 0587-4254. ; 47:3, s. 747-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A multi-particle decay experiment was successfully performed at the ISOLDE Decay Station. In this new permanent station, devoted to beta-decay studies, the novel MAGISOL Si-Plugin Chamber was installed to study the exotic decay modes of the proton drip-line nucleus Ar-31. The motivation was to search for beta 3p and beta 3p gamma channels, as well as to provide information on resonances in S-30 and P-29 relevant for the astrophysical rp-process. Description of the experimental set-up and preliminary results are presented.

  • Association of Depressive Symptoms With Postoperative Delirium and CSF Biomarkers for Alzheimer's Disease Among Hip Fracture Patients.
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The American journal of geriatric psychiatry : official journal of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. - : Elsevier BV. - 1545-7214. ; 29:12, s. 1212-1221
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • While there is growing evidence of an association between depressive symptoms and postoperative delirium, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain unknown. The goal of this study was to explore the association between depression and postoperative delirium in hip fracture patients, and to examine Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology as a potential underlying mechanism linking depressive symptoms and delirium.Patients 65 years old or older (N=199) who were undergoing hip fracture repair and enrolled in the study "A Strategy to Reduce the Incidence of Postoperative Delirium in Elderly Patients" completed the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) preoperatively. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was obtained during spinal anesthesia and assayed for amyloid-beta (Aβ) 40, 42, total tau (t-tau), and phosphorylated tau (p-tau)181.For every one point increase in GDS-15, there was a 13% increase in odds of postoperative delirium, adjusted for baseline cognition (MMSE), age, sex, race, education and CSF AD biomarkers (OR=1.13, 95%CI=1.02-1.25). Both CSF Aβ42/t-tau (β=-1.52, 95%CI=-2.1 to -0.05) and Aβ42/p-tau181 (β=-0.29, 95%CI = -0.48 to -0.09) were inversely associated with higher GDS-15 scores, where lower ratios indicate greater AD pathology. In an analysis to identify the strongest predictors of delirium out of 18 variables, GDS-15 had the highest classification accuracy for postoperative delirium and was a stronger predictor of delirium than both cognition and AD biomarkers. In older adults undergoing hip fracture repair, depressive symptoms were associated with underlying AD pathology and postoperative delirium. Mild baseline depressive symptoms were the strongest predictor of postoperative delirium, and may represent a dementia prodrome.

  • Factors affecting knee abduction during weight-bearing activities in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Therapy in Sport. - : Elsevier BV. - 1466-853X. ; 38, s. 8-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To investigate if muscle strength and muscle activation patterns are associated with increased knee abduction during two functional tasks, commonly used in rehabilitation for individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Laboratory. Participants: 24 women and 29 men approximately 7 months after ACLR. Main outcome measures: Isometric peak torque of the trunk and lower extremity muscles were determined during maximal voluntary contractions. Trunk and lower extremity average muscle activation amplitude and peak knee abduction were evaluated during the single-leg squat (SLS) and the single-leg hop for distance (SLHD) for the injured side. Separate backward regressions were performed for men and women. Results: In women, lower knee flexion and extension strength were associated with greater peak knee abduction during the SLS (B = 4.63–18.26, p ≤ 0.036); lower knee flexion strength and iliocostalis activation on the non-injured side were associated with greater peak knee abduction during the SLHD (B = 0.60–20.48, p ≤ 0.043). No associations between muscle function and peak knee abduction were found in men. Conclusions: Muscle function may contribute differently to knee abduction in men and women after ACLR. This should be considered when designing rehabilitation programs to reduce knee abduction in these patients.

  • Technology Roadmap for Flexible Sensors
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: ACS Nano. - : American Chemical Society. - 1936-0851 .- 1936-086X. ; 17:6, s. 5211-5295
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative efforts, scientific breakthroughs can be made sooner and capitalized for the betterment of humanity.
