  • 8 x 8 Ka-Band Dual-Polarized Array Antenna Based on Gap Waveguide Technology
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. - 0018-926X .- 1558-2221. ; 67:7, s. 4579-4588
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes an 8 x 8 fully metallic high-efficiency dual-polarized array antenna working at the Ka-band, based on the gap waveguide (GW) concept. The radiating element is a circular aperture backed by two stacked cylindrical cavities, which are orthogonally fed to achieve a dual-polarized performance. Both feeding layers consist of a GW corporate network to reach all the cavities backing each radiating element. Cavities are naturally integrated within the bed of nails hosting grooves and ridges for the guiding electromagnetic (EM) field, leading to a low-profile dual-polarized array in the Ka-band. The experimental results present good agreement with simulations. The measured radiation patterns agree well with the simulation and the antenna provides an average gain over 27 dBi within its operating bandwidth (29.5-31 GHz).

  • Malaria primes the innate immune response due to interferon-gamma induced enhancement of toll-like receptor expression and function
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 1091-6490 .- 0027-8424. ; 106:14, s. 5789-5794
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Malaria-induced sepsis is associated with an intense proinflammatory cytokinemia for which the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. It has been demonstrated that experimental infection of humans with Plasmodium falciparum primes Toll-like receptor (TLR)-mediated proinflammatory responses. Nevertheless, the relevance of this phenomenon during natural infection and, more importantly, the mechanisms by which malaria mediates TLR hyperresponsiveness are unclear. Here we show that TLR responses are boosted in febrile patients during natural infection with P. falciparum. Microarray analyses demonstrated that an extraordinary percentage of the up-regulated genes, including genes involving TLR signaling, had sites for IFN-inducible transcription factors. To further define the mechanism involved in malaria-mediated "priming,'' we infected mice with Plasmodium chabaudi. The human data were remarkably predictive of what we observed in the rodent malaria model. Malaria-induced priming of TLR responses correlated with increased expression of TLR mRNA in a TLR9-, MyD88-, and IFN gamma-dependent manner. Acutely infected WT mice were highly susceptible to LPS-induced lethality while TLR9(-/-), IL12(-/-) and to a greater extent, IFN gamma(-/-) mice were protected. Our data provide unprecedented evidence that TLR9 and MyD88 are essential to initiate IL12 and IFN gamma responses and favor host hyperresponsiveness to TLR agonists resulting in overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines and the sepsis-like symptoms of acute malaria.

  • Effects of mixed diets on the reproductive success and population growth of cultured Acartia grani (Calanoida)
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Aquaculture. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1045-4438 .- 1545-0805. ; 33:1, s. 1-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Copepods are alternative candidates to traditional live feeds used in marine hatcheries and food quality and type are recognized factors that influence copepods culture success. In this study, we evaluated the effects of feeding the calanoid Acartia grani with two microalgae - Rhodomonas marina and T-Isochrysis sp. - and one dinoflagellate (Oxyrrhis marina). Results showed that reproductive parameters were improved when R. marina was included in the diets, but the higher number of adults was found when O. marina was combined with R. marina. According to the life stage of the copepod different combinations of diets would be recommended.

  • The Sariçiçek howardite fall in Turkey : Source crater of HED meteorites on Vesta and impact risk of Vestoids
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Meteoritics and Planetary Science. - Hoboken : John Wiley & Sons. - 1086-9379 .- 1945-5100. ; 54:5, s. 953-1008
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Sariçiçek howardite meteorite shower consisting of 343 documented stones occurred on September 2, 2015 in Turkey and is the first documented howardite fall. Cosmogenic isotopes show that Sariçiçek experienced a complex cosmic‐ray exposure history, exposed during ~12–14 Ma in a regolith near the surface of a parent asteroid, and that an ~1 m sized meteoroid was launched by an impact 22 ± 2 Ma ago to Earth (as did one‐third of all HED meteorites). SIMS dating of zircon and baddeleyite yielded 4550.4 ± 2.5 Ma and 4553 ± 8.8 Ma crystallization ages for the basaltic magma clasts. The apatite U‐Pb age of 4525 ± 17 Ma, K‐Ar age of ~3.9 Ga, and the U,Th‐He ages of 1.8 ± 0.7 and 2.6 ± 0.3 Ga are interpreted to represent thermal metamorphic and impact‐related resetting ages, respectively. Petrographic; geochemical; and O‐, Cr‐, and Ti‐isotopic studies confirm that Sariçiçek belongs to the normal clan of HED meteorites. Petrographic observations and analysis of organic material indicate a small portion of carbonaceous chondrite material in the Sariçiçek regolith and organic contamination of the meteorite after a few days on soil. Video observations of the fall show an atmospheric entry at 17.3 ± 0.8 km s−1 from NW; fragmentations at 37, 33, 31, and 27 km altitude; and provide a pre‐atmospheric orbit that is the first dynamical link between the normal HED meteorite clan and the inner Main Belt. Spectral data indicate the similarity of Sariçiçek with the Vesta asteroid family (V‐class) spectra, a group of asteroids stretching to delivery resonances, which includes (4) Vesta. Dynamical modeling of meteoroid delivery to Earth shows that the complete disruption of a ~1 km sized Vesta family asteroid or a ~10 km sized impact crater on Vesta is required to provide sufficient meteoroids ≤4 m in size to account for the influx of meteorites from this HED clan. The 16.7 km diameter Antionia impact crater on Vesta was formed on terrain of the same age as given by the 4He retention age of Sariçiçek. Lunar scaling for crater production to crater counts of its ejecta blanket show it was formed ~22 Ma ago.
