  • A 3.5-year follow-up of Internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy for major depression
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Mental Health. - London, UK : Informa Healthcare. - 0963-8237 .- 1360-0567. ; 22:2, s. 155-164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BackgroundInternet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) for major depression has been tested in several trials, but only with follow-ups up to 1.5 years.AimThe aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of ICBT 3.5 years after treatment completion.MethodsA total of 88 people with major depression were randomized to either guided self-help or e-mail therapy in the original trial. One-third was initially on a waiting-list. Treatment was provided for eight weeks and in this report long-term follow-up data were collected. Also included were data from post-treatment and six-month follow-up. A total of 58% (51/88) completed the 3.5-year follow-up. Analyses were performed using a random effects repeated measures piecewise growth model to estimate trajectory shape over time and account for missing data.ResultsResults showed continued lowered scores on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). No differences were found between the treatment conditions. A large proportion of participants (55%) had sought and received additional treatments in the follow-up period. A majority (56.9%) of participants had a BDI score lower than 10 at the 3.5-year follow-up.ConclusionsPeople with mild to moderate major depression may benefit from ICBT 3.5-years after treatment completion.

  • High-resolution detection of chromosomal rearrangements in leukemias through mate pair whole genome sequencing
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: PLOS ONE. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 13:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The detection of recurrent somatic chromosomal rearrangements is standard of care for most leukemia types. Even though karyotype analysis-a low-resolution genome-wide chromosome analysis-is still the gold standard, it often needs to be complemented with other methods to increase resolution. To evaluate the feasibility and applicability of mate pair whole genome sequencing (MP-WGS) to detect structural chromosomal rearrangements in the diagnostic setting, we sequenced ten bone marrow samples from leukemia patients with recurrent rearrangements. Samples were selected based on cytogenetic and FISH results at leukemia diagnosis to include common rearrangements of prognostic relevance. Using MP-WGS and in-house bioinformatic analysis all sought rearrangements were successfully detected. In addition, unexpected complexity or additional, previously undetected rearrangements was unraveled in three samples. Finally, the MP-WGS analysis pinpointed the location of chromosome junctions at high resolution and we were able to identify the exact exons involved in the resulting fusion genes in all samples and the specific junction at the nucleotide level in half of the samples. The results show that our approach combines the screening character from karyotype analysis with the specificity and resolution of cytogenetic and molecular methods. As a result of the straightforward analysis and high-resolution detection of clinically relevant rearrangements, we conclude that MP-WGS is a feasible method for routine leukemia diagnostics of structural chromosomal rearrangements.

  • The effects of kraft lignin additives on wood fuel pellet quality, energy use and shelf life
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Fuel processing technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0378-3820 .- 1873-7188. ; 112:0, s. 64-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2011, the total consumption of pellets in Sweden amounted to 1.9 million tons, which represents an energy value of 9 TWh. The pellets are used in large-scale as well as in small-scale applications, and increased demands on pellet quality are likely to force pellet producers to improve on the pellet properties. One way of increasing pellet quality is by using additives. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to examine kraft lignin as an additive. Pelletswere produced in a small industrial pellet press located at KarlstadUniversity, Karlstad, Sweden, and 1–4% of kraft lignin was added to the pellets. The results indicate that the addition of an increased amount of kraft lignin to the pellets increases their mechanical durability and their lengths. The results also indicate that dry kraft lignin yields pellets with higher durability as compared to wet kraft lignin. The energy demand was unaffected by the increased use of kraft lignin. The general results presented in this paper are useful for producers of lignin, pellet producers and end-users of pellets, who are interested in developing their products and/or improving the production processes.

  • New experimental characterisation methods for solid biomass fuels to be used in combined heat and power generation
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings. - Stockholm : Swedish Bioenergy Association (SVEBIO). - 9789197762403 ; , s. 264-273
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The replacement of fossil fuels will lead to an increasing demand for unconventional biofuels. Fuel characterisation to predict combustion properties and facilitate the choice of combustion applications is important to avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes. Traditional methods are developed mainly for coal. Therefore procedures adapted specifically for solid biomass fuels are needed. This work is a survey on approaches for combustion characterisation of biomass developed during the last ten years. Innovative characterisation methods of interest concern: 1) Fuel handling behaviour: grindablility, erosion and abrasion properties. 2) Combustion characterisation: devolatilisation properties (important for ignition and flame stability), char burnout time. 3) Slagging and fouling properties of ash: ash particle formation, ash particle size distribution, ash composition, melting and gasification temperatures, slagging of bottom ash, reducing the risk by mixing with other fuels or using fuel additives and choice of suitable combustion applications for specific fuels. The main conclusions are: 1) a method to measure grindability which takes electric power consumption into account is needed as the Hardgrove Grindability Index used for coal grinding is pointless for biofuels, 2) there is a need to develop convenient low-cost methods to measure slagging and fouling tendencies, devolatilisation kinetcs and char burnout for high heating rates found in fluidised beds and powder burners.

  • The interaction of cations and liquid water studied by resonant soft-X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena. - : Elsevier BV. - 0368-2048 .- 1873-2526. ; 144-147, s. 287-290
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the soft-X-ray absorption and emission studies of NaCl, MgCl2, and AlCl3 in water solutions. The influences of cations on the water molecular structure can be seen as the absorption threshold edge shifted to high energy in the X-ray absorption spectra; the mixing of molecular orbital in 3a1 symmetry is reinforced as the intensity of 3a1 is further reduced; and the 1b1-emission peak shows the broadening and shift differently for Na+, Mg2+, and Al3+ water solutions, which indicates that the charge difference of the cations may not be the only playing role being responsible to the interactions between the cations and water molecules.

  • Ökad elproduktion från halm genom sameldning
  • 2011

  • Stimulated X-ray Raman scattering : a critical assessment of the building block of nonlinear X-ray spectroscopy
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Faraday discussions. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1359-6640 .- 1364-5498.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the invention of femtosecond X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs), studies of light-induced chemical reaction dynamics and structural dynamics reach a new era, allowing for time-resolved X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy. To ultimately probe coherent electron and nuclear dynamics on their natural time and length scales, coherent nonlinear X-ray spectroscopy schemes have been proposed. In this contribution, we want to critically assess the experimental realisation of nonlinear X-ray spectroscopy at current-day XFEL sources, by presenting first experimental attempts to demonstrate stimulated resonant X-ray Raman scattering in molecular gas targets.
