  • Assessment of a time-of-flight detection technique for measuring small velocities of cold atoms
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 105:8, s. 83109-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A low noise time-of-flight detection system for laser cooled atoms has been constructed and incrementally optimized. Here, a thorough description of the construction is presented along with an analysis of the capabilities of the system. The quality of the detection (the resolution, the reproducibility, the sensitivity, etc.) is crucial for, e.g., the ability to see details in the velocity distribution profile, which is of interest for fundamental studies of statistical physics and of the laser cooling processes, and for detection of small initial velocities of an atomic cloud, important, e.g., when studying small drifts induced by Brownian motors and ratchets. We estimate the signal-to-noise ratio of our signal to be better than 1000:1 for a typical single shot, and we discuss the effect of the initial atomic cloud size, the probe size, and the effects of the wave packet spread during the fall time on the measured quantities. We show that the shape of the velocity distribution is well conserved during the mapping done in the detection, i.e., in the convolution with the probe beam, and that velocities as small as a few percent of the single photon recoil velocity can be resolved.

  • X-ray absorption study of oxygen in the high-Tc superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 near the interfaces to Cu, Ag and Au
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-4534 .- 1873-2143. ; 265:1-2, s. 113-120
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence on O 2p holes in single crystalline Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 upon the interface formation to Cu, Ag and Au has been studied by O K edge X-ray absorption measurements. It was found that Cu reduces the amount of doping induced O 2p holes significantly in the vicinity of the interface, whereas Ag and Au gave a much smaller reduction of these states. Photoemission spectra confirmed previous findings that Cu causes a strong chemical reaction at the Bi-O surface of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8, in contrast to Ag and Au which induced only a minimal reaction. The results support the opinion that the Bi-O layers are essential for the doping of the Cu-O2 layers in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8.

  • Sliding and abrasive wear behaviour of HVOF- and HVAF-sprayed Cr3C2-NiCr hardmetal coatings
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Wear. - : Elsevier BV. - 0043-1648 .- 1873-2577. ; 358-359, s. 32-50
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper provides a comprehensive characterisation of HVOF- and HVAF-sprayed Cr3C2–25 wt.% NiCr hardmetal coatings. One commercial powder composition with two different particle size distributions was processed using five HVOF and HVAF thermal spray systems. All coatings contain less Cr3C2 than the feedstock powder, possibly due to the rebound of some Cr3C2-rich particles during high-velocity impact onto the substrate.Dry sand-rubber wheel abrasive wear testing causes both grooving and pull-out of splat fragments. Mass losses depend on inter- and intra-lamellar cohesion, being higher (≥70 mg after a wear distance of 5904 m) for the coatings deposited with the coarser feedstock powder or with one type of HVAF torch.Sliding wear at room temperature against alumina involves shallower abrasive grooving, small-scale delamination and carbide pull-outs, and it is controlled by intra-lamellar cohesion. The coatings obtained from the fine feedstock powder exhibit the lowest wear rates (≈5x10−6 mm3/(Nm)). At 400 °C, abrasive grooving dominates the sliding wear behaviour; wear rates increase by one order of magnitude but friction coefficients decrease from ≈0.7 to ≈0.5. The thermal expansion coefficient of the coatings (11.08x10−6 °C−1 in the 30–400 °C range) is sufficiently close to that of the steel substrate (14.23x10−6 °C−1) to avoid macro-cracking
