  • Ferrous sulphate gel dosimetry and MRI for proton beam dose measurements
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physics in Medicine and Biology. - : IOP Publishing. - 1361-6560 .- 0031-9155. ; 44:8, s. 1983-1996
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ferrous sulphate gel dosimetry has the potential for measurement of absorbed dose distributions in proton therapy. The chemical properties of the gel are altered according to the radiation dose and these changes can be evaluated in three dimensions using MRI. The purpose of this work was to investigate the properties of a ferrous gel used with clinical proton beams. The gel was irradiated with both monoenergetic and range-modulated proton beams. It was then evaluated using MRI. The depth dose by means of the 1/T1 distribution was studied and compared with data from a plane-parallel plate ionization chamber. 1/T1 was shown to be proportional to the dose at a mean proton energy of approximately 90 MeV. The dose response was no different from that obtained using photon beams. However, on normalization at the entrance, the relative 1/T1 at the Bragg peak was 15-20% lower than the corresponding ionization chamber data for the monoenergetic proton beam. Better agreement was found for the modulated beam, but with significant differences close to the distal edge of the 1/T1 distribution. The change in sensitivity with depth was explained by means of a linear energy transfer dependence. This property was further studied using Monte Carlo methods.

  • Activated platelet aggregation is transiently impaired also by a reduced dose of protamine
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal. - : TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD. - 1401-7431 .- 1651-2006. ; 53:6, s. 355-360
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: Protamine reduces platelet aggregation after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). We studied the inhibitory effect of a reduced protamine dose, the duration of impaired platelet function and the possible correlation to postoperative bleeding. Design: Platelet function was assessed by impedance aggregometry in 30 patients undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB at baseline, before protamine administration, after 70% and 100% of the calculated protamine dose, after 20 minutes and at arrival to the intensive care unit. Adenosine diphosphate (ADP), thrombin receptor activating peptide-6 (TRAP), arachidonic acid (AA) and collagen (COL) were used as activators. Blood loss was measured during operation and three hours after surgery. Results are presented as median (25th-75th percentile). Results: Platelet aggregation decreased markedly after the initial dose of protamine (70%) with all activators; ADP 89 (71-110) to 54 (35-78), TRAP 143 (116-167) to 109 (77-136), both p < .01; AA 25 (16-49) to 17 (12-24) and COL 92 (47-103) to 60 (38-81) U, both p < .05. No further decrease was seen after 100% protamine. The effect was transient and after twenty minutes platelet aggregation had started to recover; ADP 76 (54-106), TRAP 138 (95-158), AA 20 (10-35), COL 70 (51-93) U. Blood loss during operation correlated to aggregometry measured at baseline and after protaminization. Conclusions: Protamine after CPB induces a marked decrease in platelet aggregation already at a protamine-heparin ratio of 0.7:1. The impairment seems to be transient and recovery had started after 20 minutes.

  • REEDS : Reference data and algorithms for research and development of smart ships
  • 2023
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Swedish Transport Administration Research and Innovation fund for Maritime research funded the project "Reference data and algorithms to support research and development of smart ships". The project goes by the working name, and is communicated as, Reeds. It responds to a synthesis of a number of different needs identified in previous projects and studies. The background to the project is that in recent years the focus has been on developing algorithms to interpret and act on the physical environment around different types of craft. In order to be able to develop and evaluate these algorithms, it has become clear that open datasets and a fair benchmarking platform are required that allow various developers in industries and researchers to evaluate algorithms. In the road vehicle sector, Kitti, as of 2013, is the largest dataset used as a reference dataset. The dataset in this project contains sensor data from several data collection occasions within a maritime context, from high-precision sensors such as cameras, radar, lidar, and IMU. For marine applications, there has been no similar dataset with anywhere near the same amount of data and time synchronisation between sensors. The reference data and reference algorithms were available periodically during the project through an online service where researchers and developers could upload their algorithms to use the dataset. In addition to the dataset itself, Reeds adds additional strengths compared to other reference datasets:-        New approach to comparing algorithms fairly, where new algorithms are always compared on a centralised hardware in a cloud service and re-evaluated when new data is added, i.e. an unbiased algorithm evaluation service.-        Method that combines NTP and PTP time protocols for synchronisation between the sensors with microsecond accuracy-        More types and more modern sensors that can be used at a higher level of abstraction and can thus be applied in more areas.-        Sensor fusion of both onboard and land-side sensors-        Identify areas of application for navigation and surveillance on land based on the algorithms developed during the project and the use of new sensor types not established in shipping.-         The project built up a maritime reference data set that enables the creation of a digital description for the ship's surrounding environment and developed reference algorithms to demonstrate new navigation and monitoring methodology in the area of "enhanced navigation"."Enhanced navigation" is defined under the project as the use of new technology based on developments in digitisation and autonomous functions, where new navigation methods use sensors both on board and ashore to increase maritime safety and robustness. The project has built a web-based user interface referred to in the report as "Crowsnest" that handles these new sensors and visualises this data in a familiar interface similar to an overlay in ECDIS that is openly available for the public to build on. Which was used for the evaluation and concept development of new user interfaces based on feedback from pilots and VTS operators.By providing reference datasets and reference algorithms with demonstrations, researchers and companies now have the opportunity to develop algorithms for the intelligent and autonomous ships of the future.

  • A human protein atlas for normal and cancer tissues based on antibody proteomics
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Molecular & Cellular Proteomics. - 1535-9476 .- 1535-9484. ; 4:12, s. 1920-1932
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibody-based proteomics provides a powerful approach for the functional study of the human proteome involving the systematic generation of protein-specific affinity reagents. We used this strategy to construct a comprehensive, antibody-based protein atlas for expression and localization profiles in 48 normal human tissues and 20 different cancers. Here we report a new publicly available database containing, in the first version, similar to 400,000 high resolution images corresponding to more than 700 antibodies toward human proteins. Each image has been annotated by a certified pathologist to provide a knowledge base for functional studies and to allow queries about protein profiles in normal and disease tissues. Our results suggest it should be possible to extend this analysis to the majority of all human proteins thus providing a valuable tool for medical and biological research.

  • Quadrivalent vaccine against human papillomavirus to prevent high-grade cervical lesions
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: New England Journal of Medicine. - 0028-4793 .- 1533-4406. ; 356:19, s. 1915-1927
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus types 16 (HPV-16) and 18 (HPV-18) cause approximately 70% of cervical cancers worldwide. A phase 3 trial was conducted to evaluate a quadrivalent vaccine against HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18 (HPV-6/11/16/18) for the prevention of high-grade cervical lesions associated with HPV-16 and HPV-18. METHODS: In this randomized, double-blind trial, we assigned 12,167 women between the ages of 15 and 26 years to receive three doses of either HPV-6/11/16/18 vaccine or placebo, administered at day 1, month 2, and month 6. The primary analysis was performed for a per-protocol susceptible population that included 5305 women in the vaccine group and 5260 in the placebo group who had no virologic evidence of infection with HPV-16 or HPV-18 through 1 month after the third dose (month 7). The primary composite end point was cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or 3, adenocarcinoma in situ, or cervical cancer related to HPV-16 or HPV-18. RESULTS: Subjects were followed for an average of 3 years after receiving the first dose of vaccine or placebo. Vaccine efficacy for the prevention of the primary composite end point was 98% (95.89% confidence interval [CI], 86 to 100) in the per-protocol susceptible population and 44% (95% CI, 26 to 58) in an intention-to-treat population of all women who had undergone randomization (those with or without previous infection). The estimated vaccine efficacy against all high-grade cervical lesions, regardless of causal HPV type, in this intention-to-treat population was 17% (95% CI, 1 to 31). CONCLUSIONS: In young women who had not been previously infected with HPV-16 or HPV-18, those in the vaccine group had a significantly lower occurrence of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia related to HPV-16 or HPV-18 than did those in the placebo group.

  • Årsbok 2018 : Socialhögskolan, Lunds universitet
  • 2019

  • Study of energy response and resolution of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter to hadrons of energies from 16 to 30 GeV
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 81:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three spare modules of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter were exposed to test beams from the Super Proton Synchrotron accelerator at CERN in 2017. The detector’s measurements of the energy response and resolution to positive pions and kaons, and protons with energies ranging from 16 to 30 GeV are reported. The results have uncertainties of a few percent. They were compared to the predictions of the Geant4-based simulation program used in ATLAS to estimate the response of the detector to proton-proton events at the Large Hadron Collider. The determinations obtained using experimental and simulated data agree within the uncertainties.

  • "Vi klimatforskare stödjer Greta och skolungdomarna"
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Dagens nyheter (DN debatt). - 1101-2447.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • DN DEBATT 15/3.
