  • Sensory development for heavy metal detection: A review on translation from conventional analysis to field-portable sensor
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Trends in Food Science & Technology. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE LONDON. - 0924-2244 .- 1879-3053. ; 109, s. 674-689
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: In recent decades, contaminations with heavy metals ions have adversely affected the environment, food safety, and human health. Heavy metals, leaching to water sources from the industrial effluents, can enter into the aquatic and food chains of humans and animals from a variety of anthmpogenic sources. Scope and Approach: Heavy metal detection has been an intensive area of research today. Both laboratory-based analytical instruments and innovative sensor devices like the electronic nose, electronic tongue, and bio/ chemical sensors have increasingly emerged to meet the demand for legislative actions on environmental pollution control and early warning. These evolving technology and developments particularly in the area of nanotechnology and sensors have become key contributing factors in heavy metal detection. Key Findings and Conclusions: This endeavor aims at exploring this field in detail to understand the key principles behind this flourishing science and summarize the recent development in heavy metal detection technologies. This article also gives a brief review of commercially available portable devices that has the potential to become the next gold standard instruments in heavy metal detection.

  • A miniaturized nanobiosensor for choline analysis
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Biosensors & bioelectronics. - : Elsevier. - 0956-5663 .- 1873-4235. ; 54, s. 558-564
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel reusable chemiluminescence choline nanobiosensor has been developed using aligned zinc oxide nanorod-films (ZnONR). The chemically fashioned ZnONR were synthesized by hybrid wet chemical route onto glass substrates and used to fabricate a stable chemiluminescent choline biosensor. The biosensor was constructed by co-immobilization of the enzymes choline oxidase and peroxidase. The covalent immobilization of the enzymes on the ZnONR was achieved using 16-phosphonohexadecanoic acid as a cross-linker. The phosphonation of the ZnONR imparted significant stability to the immobilized enzyme as against physisorbed enzyme. A lower value of Michaelis-Menten constant (K-m), of 0.062 mM for the covalently coupled enzyme over the physisorbed enzymes facilitated enhanced stability of ZnONR nanobiosensor. The ZnONR-choline biosensor has been investigated over a wide range of choline from 0.0005 mM to 2 mM. Importantly, the recovery of choline in milk samples was close to 99%. Using the developed biosensor, choline was measurable even after 30 days with 60 repeated measurements proving the stability of the sensor (Intraday RSD%=2.83 and Interday RSD%=3.51).

  • Microporous La-Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) with Large Surface Area
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Chemistry: A European Journal. - : Wiley. - 1521-3765 .- 0947-6539. ; 21:7, s. 2789-2792
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A microporous La-metal-organic framework (MOF) has been synthesized by the reaction of La(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O with a ligand 4,4',4''-s-triazine-1,3,5-triyltri-p-aminobenzoate (TATAB) featuring three carboxylate groups. Crystal structure analysis confirms the formation of 3D MOF with hexagonal micropores, a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 1074 m(2)g(-1) and high thermal and chemical stability. The CO2 adsorption capacities are 76.8 cm(3)g(-1) at 273 K and 34.6 cm(3)g(-1) at 293 K, a highest measured CO2 uptake for a Ln-MOFs.

  • Mononuclear complexes and a coordination polymer of the 2-pyridylamino ((NHPy)-Py-2) functionalized P(V) ligand
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: RSC Advances. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2046-2069. ; 4:51, s. 26902-26906
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three mononuclear metal complexes, [{PO2((NHPy)-Py-2)(2)}(2)M] [Py-2 - 2-pyridyl; M - Zn (1), Ni (2), Co (3)], have been synthesized by reacting metal nitrates with tetrakis(2-pyridylamino)phosphonium chloride, [P((NHPy)-Py-2)(4)]Cl, under solvothermal reaction conditions. The ligand, [P((NHPy)-Py-2)(4)]Cl, is hydrolyzed in the reaction medium. All of the complexes are isostructural and show an octahedral geometry around the metal ion. A coordination polymer, [{P((NHPy)-Py-2)(4)Cu2Cl4}ClO4](infinity) (4), was also obtained by treating [P((NHPy)-Py-2)(4)]Cl with copper perchlorate hexahydrate at ambient temperature. All of the complexes were characterized by standard analytical techniques. The solid-state structures of 1-4 were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The optical properties of 1-4 have been investigated.

  • Mononuclear metal (II) complexes of a Bis(organoamido) phosphate ligand with antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Applied organometallic chemistry. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0268-2605 .- 1099-0739. ; 31:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new tripodal ligand [PO((NHMePy)-Me-2)(3)] (L) ((MePy)-Me-2 = 2-(4-methyl pyridyl)) have been synthesized by treating phosphorous oxychloride with 2-Amino-4-methylpyridine in toluene under refluxing condition. The ligand was appeared as a white solid and characterized by several standard analytical and spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, NMR (H-1, C-13{H-1} and P-31{H-1}) and ESI-MS spectroscopy. The ligand (L) undergone metal-assisted hydrolysis of one P-N bond when treated it with hydrated metal nitrates, M(NO3)(2)center dot xH(2)O (M = Zn, Cu, Co and Ni) under hydrothermal reaction condition in DMF-H2O (1:1). This results in the formation of four mononuclear complexes [{PO2((NHMePy)-Me-2)(2)}(2)M] [M = Zn (1), Cu (2), Co (3), Ni (4)], where ligand (L) hydrolyses to a anionic bis(organoamido)phosphate, [PO2((NHMePy)-Me-2)(2)](-). All complexes were completely characterized by various analytical techniques and their solid state molecular structures were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. All complexes are isostructural with a metal (II) ion situating at the centre of a distorted octahedron. Two tridentate [PO2((NHMePy)-Me-2)(2)](-) ligands are coordinated to metal(II) ion through N- and O-donor atoms, thus neutralizing the charge of the complex. Optical properties of all complexes in solid state have been studied. Moreover, antimicrobial activities of complexes 1-4 have been explored. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of such compounds investigated for their antimicrobial activities.
