- Denna forskningsrapport sätter in sådan återanvändning av äldre byggnadsdelar och detaljer i ett större sammanhang. Detta utgörs av den marknad där byggnadsdelar och detaljer från äldre byggnader cirkulerar. Byggnadsdelar cirkulerar genom tillgång och efterfrågan, utifrån rådande ideal, skilda estetiska utgångspunkter och kunskaper, något som också är kopplat till funktionalitet och ekonomi. Fokus har därför lagts på att undersöka det utbud, de kunskaper och de synsätt som förekommer inom olika så kallade byggnadsvårdsbutiker, men rör också andra butiker där byggnadsdelar kan köpas.

- The making of artefacts is a core activity in society, the result of which contributes to the building up of our physical surroundings and material culture. Throughout history, craft skills have been highly appreciated and have often been seen as crucial component of a capable human. Despite this, the knowledge base that constitutes the actual making is often overlooked in research. What can we learn about things by learning about their making? How do different craft skills offer an understanding of its historical use? How can theoretical and methodological approaches be developed concerning the actual making? How can we study and understand craft as cultural heritage? This book contains a selecion of papers from the session Crafting Cultural Heritage at the Assosiation of Critical Heritage studies inaugural conference Re/theorising Heritage 2012 in Gothenburg. The contributors are Anneli Palmsköld; Thomas Laurien; Eleonora Lupo and Elena Giunta; Gunnar Almevik and Nicola Donovan. Their common interest are theories and methods of crafting that could benefit heritage studies approach to making.

- Craft is a sphere of activities where humans as cultural beings can dwell, a place in people's lives where processing of thoughts and feelings regarding everyday life and political events can take place. Craft as cultural heritage can also be directed toward the future, since understanding of handmade processes is a base for industrial production. It is a space for dreaming and planning as well as for material encounters between body and matter—in both ways changing the world. Dwelling in craft must not be idealized, though. Its manifold expressions and opposite features have to be studied critically. Craftwork can be apprehended in various ways: calming but also frustrating, creative, and innovative, as well as boringly routinized. People can earn their living through craft, or they can reside in craft contexts like educational workshops, the DIY or DIT movement, and maker spaces for recreational purposes. Craft can be about healthy people's creative self-expressions, but it can also be used as a tool in therapeutic processes or in reminiscence work with persons who have dementia. Craft is social when learned and shared but often individually performed with personal bodily knowing as its prerequisite. Thus, it connects people and fosters self-esteem, but it also pinpoints differences regarding bodily performances and may lead to competition and envy. An ethnological "double glance" at the phenomenon is needed. We invite scholars to theorize on craft/making as cultural activities or to present empirical findings from the field.

- The Re-Heritage project aims to study the rapidly expanding second hand-, re-use- and vintage market in which small-scale entrepreneurs transform and re-configure objects with a real or imagined history into marketable goods with heritage value. Building on existing research on second hand culture and consumption, the project takes on a neo-materialist approach to explore how this market, here called the re:heritage market, involves circulation and transformations that renegotiate established understandings of heritage, but that also transcends conventional dichotomies between public and private, tangible and intangible, memory and history. Combining perspectives from anthropology, consumption research, integrated conservation and cultural geography, the project will analyse the real and imaginary sites, the relations, networks and assemblages of things as well as the actors and institutions involved in the re:heritage circulation. The research methodology involves ethnographic fieldwork, text and image analysis and archival studies. The research will be carried out through five work packages with complementary focus: the social and material infrastructure of objects in circulation; the market qualification-valuation processes; the interaction of urban localities and heritagization processes; a comparative study in the UK; theory development as well as co-research in interaction with the public. In the work package “Sites and localities as re:heritage” the focus will be on the kind of circulations that meet in the reverential activities of rebuilding, restructuring, reconstruction, renovation or restoration of the urban built environment: 1) the reshuffling of spatial meanings: from an original (usually) function-based meaning, into one based on heritage conceptions; 2) the circuit of market values: the real estate property market where heritage aspects of the sales items (predominately homes) have become as a core hub for the presentations and spatial rearrangements; 3) the increasing market for old building details or structures (such as used doors, windows and fittings, authentic paint, original tiles); 4) the know-how, skills and craft necessary for its application.

- This paper presents research on the various ways in which urban spaces, in terms of the city fabric itself, are transformed in parallel with the emergence of the urban 2nd hand markets of concern. Departing from Thrift's (2008:211) notion of "urban glue" - the on going "activities of repair and maintenance" that are taking place in the city and that make it hold against both exploitation and entropy - our research has identified a certain chain of competence and venture that is particularly apparent in Gothenburg's retro-districts. The chain consists of the real estate owner; the building craftsmen devoted to traditional building techniques at the expense of regular modernization; the market for reused building material and details; the conservation consultant that mediates between the other. Together they enable the transformation of ordinary old buildings, street and entire quarters into places where history and historical layers are materially enhanced and communicated through renovation, restoration or reconstruction. These places, in terms of entire buildings, facades or shop interiors, provide a performative infrastructure for the second hand market, and thus can be seen as yet another layer of circulation on the re:heritage market. The research also concerns the specific market for the reuse of old building material (windows, doors, bricks or doorknobs): its spectrum of providers and consumers, its goods and its ideologies and ethics.

- Vi vill här presentera en alternativ förståelse av byggnadernas liv och biografi . Den tar fasta på att byggnaden och byggnadens delar kan komma i omlopp genom olika slag av konkret återanvändning inom underhåll och renovering. Ett exempel på sådan återanvändning är när byggnader och byggnadsdelar blir fond eller rekvisita i trendiga urbana butiker. När de hamnar i sådana sammanhang blir de inte bara neutrala exempel på byggnadsunderhåll, utan de kan också bli till projektionsytor som utövar påverkan långt utöver deras konkreta situering och användning.

- Hur går cirkulering av byggnadsdelar och byggnadsdetaljer till? Vad kommer de ifrån och vart tar de vägen? Hur återbrukas de? I denna rapport behandlas återbruk inom den svenska byggnadsvården. En diskussion om urban materialitet och staden som kulturarv samt om den specifika kontext som cirkulering på bebyggelsenivå ingår i, sätter in dessa frågor i ett större sammanhang. Här kartläggs vilka aktörer som är involverade, såväl hantverkare som akademiker, och vilka idéer och visioner som driver dem. Vidare undersöks när och var butiker nischade mot byggnadsvård växte fram. Rapporten bidrar till ny kunskap om byggnadsvårdsfältets framväxt och verksamhet, och hur detta är relaterad till de senaste decenniernas stadsomvandling.

- Antologin är en samlad redovisning av forskningsresultat från det fyraåriga VR-projektet Dekorerade interiörer i Hälsingegårdar - en holistisk studie av ett kulturhistoriskt världsarv (2014–2017). Målade och dekorerade interiörer och möbler samt mönstrade inredningstextilier under perioden 1700–1870 har undersökts med en kombination av metoder från såväl humaniora som naturvetenskap. Syftet har varit att få fram ny och fördjupad kunskap om färger, färgningen och andra råmaterial och tekniker som använts vid tillverkning av föremål och interiörer i Hälsingegårdar. Genom studien har ökad förståelsen för dåtidens lokala tillgången på råmaterial och råvaruhandel erhållits. Dessutom har detaljerad kunskap om interiörernas upphovsmän och -kvinnor genererats. Projektet tillför därmed ny kunskap för fortsatt undersökning av kulturella, sociala och ekonomiska sammanhang och förutsättningar för den inredningskultur som växte fram och formades i hälsingegårdar under 1700- och 1800-talen.
