    • This paper presents measurements of the GeV-scale electron beam energy for the storage rings at the synchrotron light source facilities Australian Synchrotron (AS) and SPEAR3 at SLAC. Resonant spin depolarization was employed in the beam energy measurement, since it is presently the highest precision technique and an uncertainty of order 10(-6) was achieved at SPEAR3 and AS. Using the resonant depolarization technique, the beam energy was measured at various rf frequencies to measure the linear momentum compaction factor. This measured linear momentum compaction factor was used to evaluate models of the beam trajectory through combined-function bending magnets. The main bending magnets of both lattices are rectangular, horizontally defocusing gradient bending magnets. Four modeling approaches are compared for the beam trajectory through the bending magnet: a circular trajectory, linear and nonlinear hyperbolic cosine trajectories, and numerical evaluation of the trajectory through the measured magnetic field map. Within the uncertainty of the measurement the momentum compaction factor is shown to agree with the numerical model of the trajectory within the bending magnet, and disagree with the hyperbolic cosine approximation.

    • AIM: To investigate the expression of two endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident key chaperone proteins, ERdj5 and BiP, under the influence of resinous monomers and its relationship with the inhibition of mineralization caused by the monomer 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA).METHODOLOGY: The ERdj5 and BiP expression was studied in vitro, in primary human pulp cell cultures after treatment with three different HEMA concentrations at different time periods. Subsequently, the expression of both the odontoblast markers dentine sialoprotein (DSP) and osteonectin (OSN) was studied in human pulp cells under the same conditions.RESULTS: The ERdj5 and BiP expression was upregulated in the pulp cells. DSP and OSN were largely dispersed in the cytoplasm in control cell cultures but accumulated in a perinuclear area after exposure to HEMA. Their expression levels were not affected.CONCLUSIONS: The increased expression of ERdj5 and BiP may reflect activation of ER stress. DSP and OSN accumulation into the cells may lead to their secretion arrest and inhibition of dentine matrix formation. These events may elucidate the mechanism by which HEMA inhibits the mineralization process.

  • SIMILAR CARDIOVASCULAR COMORBIDITY AND HIGHER DEPRESSION RATES IN PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS COMPARED TO AGE- AND SEX-MATCHED RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS AND DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS

    • Comorbidities are frequent in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) but it is not known how they differ from other high comorbidity burden diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and diabetes mellitus (DM).Objectives:To compare the prevalence of comorbidities in PsA vs. RA and DM patients.Methods:215 PsA patients were age/gender-matched with 215 RA and 215 DM patients from two tertiary hospitals. Prevalence of comorbidities (hypertension, current smoking, hyperlipidemia, obesity (BMI≥30), coronary disease [CD], stroke, MACE [combined CD and stroke], depression, osteoporosis, history of malignancies) were compared across the three groups. Within PsA group, associations between comorbidities and demographic and clinical features (e.g entheitis), including PsA phenotypes (RA-like vs oligoarthritis pattern and Axial-involvment vs Non-Axial-involvement) were assessed.Results:Hyperlipidaemia, obesity and depression were more frequent in PsA vs. RA. Depression and osteoporosis were more common in PsA vs DM. In contrast, hypertension was more frequent in DM. All other comorbidities, including frequency of stroke, CD and major adverse cardiovascular events did not differ between groups. MACEs in PsA, were associated with male gender (p=0.03), older age (p=0.0002), dyslipidaemia (p=0.003) and hypertension (p<0.0001). No differences were found between different phenotypes of PsA.Conclusion:PsA patients had higher BMI and hyperlipidaemia compared to RA but not to DM. MACE is comparable between PsA and RA or DM, while depression is more common in PsA. Taking into account certain risk factors, screening for and management of comorbidities in PsA is important in the clinical setting.Disclosure of Interests:George E.     • Structural and morphological control of crystalline nanoparticles is crucial in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and the development of reaction specific catalysts. To achieve this, colloidal chemistry methods are combined with ab initio calculations in order to define the reaction parameters, which drive chemical reactions to the desired crystal nucleation and growth path. Key in this procedure is the experimental verification of the predicted crystal facets and their corresponding electronic structure, which in case of nanostructured materials becomes extremely difficult. Here, by employing P-31 solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance aided by advanced density functional theory calculations to obtain and assign the Knight shifts, we succeed in determining the crystal and electronic structure of the terminating surfaces of ultrafine Ni2P nanoparticles at atomic scale resolution. Our work highlights the potential of ssNMR nanocrystallography as a unique tool in the emerging field of facet-engineered nanocatalysts. Structural and morphological control of crystalline nanoparticles is crucial in heterogeneous catalysis. Applying DFT-assisted solid-state NMR spectroscopy, we determine the surface crystal and electronic structure of Ni2P nanoparticles, unveiling NMR nanocrystallography as an emerging tool in facet-engineered nanocatalysts.

  • Detection of Weyl fermions and the metal to Weyl-semimetal phase transition in WTe2via broadband high resolution NMR

    • Weyl fermions (WFs) in the type-II Weyl semimetal (WSM) WTe2 are difficult to resolve experimentally because the Weyl bands disperse in an extremely narrow region of the (E−k) space. Here, by using DFT-assisted high-resolution 125Te solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) in the temperature range 50–700 K, we succeeded in detecting low energy WF excitations and monitoring their evolution with temperature. Remarkably, WFs are observed to emerge at T∼120 K, while at lower temperatures WTe2 behaves as a trivial metal. This intriguing phenomenon is induced by the rapid raise of the Fermi level upon heating, which crosses the Weyl bands only for T>120 K. The abrupt change of the NMR parameters at this temperature is signature of a topological Lifshitz transition instead of a cursive energy-bands crossing.
