  • Three Ways of Globalizing IT Engineering Education : Experiences from Two European Universities
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Science, Technology and Education Policy. - Hangzhou, China. ; , s. 63-67
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  In this paper, we present three different mechanisms for globalising engineering education: (1) student and staff exchanges, (2) joint courses, where the students work in globally distributed teams; and (3) joint degree programmes. We argue that the three mechanisms complement each other and that successful globalisation within an institution can be archived by combining the three. Our argument is based on the experiences of two north European universities, who successfully globalise their education.

  • The CC2020 Project - Computing Curricula Guidelines for the 2020s
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF 2018 IEEE GLOBAL ENGINEERING EDUCATION CONFERENCE (EDUCON) - EMERGING TRENDS AND CHALLENGES OF ENGINEERING EDUCATION. - : IEEE. - 9781538629574 ; , s. 2021-2024
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper provides an overview of a worldwide project to chart the future of computing education on a global scale. The Computing Curricular 2020 (CC2020) initiative engages a task force of thirty-six professionals from sixteen countries and six continents in the task of producing resources that map the computing and educational advances that have occurred since the publication of its predecessor, CC2005. The results of the initiative will be futuristic in the sense that it will be a durable portfolio of resources useful to educational institutions, governments, industry, students, and the public on a global scale. This paper summarizes the status and approaches developed by the CC2020 taskforce, a digest of the content anticipated in the resources delivered as well as suggestions for their use.

  • Engineering students’ ways of relating to wicked sustainability problems
  • 2014
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This licentiate thesis constitutes a part of a larger research effort that aims to provide a theoretical framework for understanding and working with engineering students’ ways of relating to wicked sustainability problems (WSPs) on the basis of conceptual, empirical, and practical considerations. Thus, the project aims to contribute to an understanding of how engineering education can support students in developing the capabilities that they need to actively participate in discussions about sustainable development and to constructively deal with WSPs.The concept of perspectives provides a point of departure for the research. Paper I introduces a conceptual framework for conceiving of and communicating about perspectives and perspective processes in the context of engineering education for sustainable development. In Paper II, four qualitatively different ways in which engineering students understand and approach a specific WSP are described based on an empirical study. The results from the study suggest that a partial experience of the complexity of WSPs may lower rather than increase students’ abilities to deal with WSPs, and that educators therefore should pay attention to support the students in progressing beyond this level. A combination of the results from the two papers provides input for discussions about what it may mean to fully appreciate the complexity of WSPs, and a basis for more practice-oriented research in line with the aim of this research.

  • Effects of rosuvastatin and atorvastatin compared over 52 weeks of treatment in patients with hypercholesterolemia
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: American Heart Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 0002-8703 .- 1097-6744. ; 144:6, s. 1044-1051
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Despite the demonstrated benefits of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) reduction in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, many patients receiving lipid-lowering therapy fail to achieve LDL-C goals. We compared the effects of rosuvastatin and atorvastatin in reducing LDL-C and achieving LDL-C goals in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. Methods and Results: In this 52-week, randomized, double-blind, multicenter trial (4522IL/0026), 412 patients with LDL-C 160 to <250 mg/dL received a 5-mg dose of rosuvastatin (n = 138), a 10-mg dose of rosuvastatin (n = 134), or a 10-mg dose of atorvastatin (n = 140) for 12 weeks, during the following 40 weeks, dosages could be sequentially doubled up to 80 mg if National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel II (ATP-II) LDL-C goals were not achieved. At 12 weeks, 5- and 10-mg doses of rosuvastatin were associated with significantly greater LDL-C reductions than 10-mg doses of atorvastatin (46% and 50% vs 39%, both P < .001). At 12 weeks, both rosuvastatin dosages brought more patients to within ATP-II and European LDL-C goals than atorvastatin (86% and 89% vs 73% and 75%, and 86% vs 55%, respectively). At 52 weeks, compared with atorvastatin, both initial rosuvastatin treatment groups significantly reduced LDL-C (47% and 53% vs 44%, P < .05 and P < .001). Overall, more patients in the initial rosuvastatin 10-mg group achieved their ATP-II LDL-C goal than those in the initial atorvastatin 10-mg group (98% vs 87%), with 82% of patients treated with rosuvastatin achieving their goal at the 10-mg starting dosage without the need for titration, compared with 59% of patients treated with atorvastatin. Both treatments were well tolerated over 52 weeks. Conclusion: Compared with atorvastatin, rosuvastatin produced greater reductions in LDL-C, which may offer advantages in LDL-C goal attainment over existing lipid-lowering therapies.
