  • Polymer solar cells spray coated with non-halogenated solvents
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-0248. ; 161, s. 52-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using spray-coating technique, we successfully fabricated conventional ITO-based and inverted ITO-free polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on a conjugated polymer poly[2,3-bis-(3-octyloxyphenyl) quinoxaline-5,8-diyl-alt-thiophene-2,5-diyl] (TQ1) as the donor and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) or [6,6] -phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the acceptor. Environment-friendly non-halogenated solvents were used to process the active layers. The influence of substrate temperatures and processing solvents on the photovoltaic performance of the ITO-based TQ1:PC61BM PSCs was systemically investigated. A higher substrate temperature can accelerate the solvent evaporating rate and afford a micro-textured rougher surface, which efficiently reduced light reflectance and enhanced absorption. Furthermore, finer phase separation was observed when using this high substrate temperature, which led to enhanced photocurrent due to the reduced bimolecular recombination. The device performance of spray-processed PSCs using the non-halogenated solvent mixtures was comparable to that of spray-processed PSCs using the halogenated o-dichlorobenzene (oDCB), which demonstrates that the non-halogenated solvents are very promising in spray-processed PSCs. This work sheds new light on developing efficient roll-to-roll compatible spray-coated PSCs with environment-friendly solvents.

  • Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior and Microstructural Evolution of Nickel-based Superalloy M951G at Elevated Temperatures
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Materials Characterization. - : Elsevier. - 1044-5803 .- 1873-4189. ; 163
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests of the newly developed nickel-based superalloy M951G have been conducted at 900 and 1000 °C under different total strain amplitudes. Results show that the fatigue properties, fracture mechanisms as well as coarsening of γ′ precipitates are dependent on testing temperatures and strain amplitudes. Fatigue life and cyclic stress response under the same total strain amplitude at 1000 °C are lower than that at 900 °C, which is due to the degradation of microstructures, shearing of γ′ precipitates by dislocations and serious oxidation. Fracture modes change from intergranular cracking to the mixed mode cracking as the strain amplitude increases. At low strain amplitudes, M951G alloy fails in the form of intergranular cracking owing to the oxidation of surface carbides and the relatively low deformation rate. At higher strain amplitudes, the strain localization in grain interior, the distribution of broken carbides and eutectics as well as the relatively higher strain rate are the main reasons for the formation of transgranular microcracks. Ultimately, the effects of fatigue conditions on coarsening of cubic γ′ precipitates are also analyzed from the aspect of γ′ volume fraction, fatigue life and flow stress difference between the γ/γ′ interfaces.

  • One thousand plant transcriptomes and the phylogenomics of green plants
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 574:7780, s. 679-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Green plants (Viridiplantae) include around 450,000-500,000 species(1,2) of great diversity and have important roles in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Here, as part of the One Thousand Plant Transcriptomes Initiative, we sequenced the vegetative transcriptomes of 1,124 species that span the diversity of plants in a broad sense (Archaeplastida), including green plants (Viridiplantae), glaucophytes (Glaucophyta) and red algae (Rhodophyta). Our analysis provides a robust phylogenomic framework for examining the evolution of green plants. Most inferred species relationships are well supported across multiple species tree and supermatrix analyses, but discordance among plastid and nuclear gene trees at a few important nodes highlights the complexity of plant genome evolution, including polyploidy, periods of rapid speciation, and extinction. Incomplete sorting of ancestral variation, polyploidization and massive expansions of gene families punctuate the evolutionary history of green plants. Notably, we find that large expansions of gene families preceded the origins of green plants, land plants and vascular plants, whereas whole-genome duplications are inferred to have occurred repeatedly throughout the evolution of flowering plants and ferns. The increasing availability of high-quality plant genome sequences and advances in functional genomics are enabling research on genome evolution across the green tree of life.

  • Transcriptional reactivation of OTX2, RX1 and SIX3 during reprogramming contributes to the generation of RPE cells from human iPSCs
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Biological Sciences. - : Ivyspring International Publisher. - 1449-2288. ; 12:5, s. 505-517
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Directed differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) holds great promise in cell replacement therapy for patients suffering from degenerative eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In this study, we generated iPSCs from human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) by electroporation with episomal plasmid vectors encoding OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, L-MYC together with p53 suppression. Intriguingly, cell reprogramming resulted in a metastable transcriptional activation and selective demethylation of neural and retinal specification-associated genes, such as OTX2, RX1 and SIX3. In contrast, RPE progenitor genes were transcriptionally silent in HDFs and descendant iPSCs. Overexpression of OCT4 and SOX2 directly stimulated the expression of OTX2, RX1 and SIX3 in HDFs and iPSCs. Luciferase and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays further identified an OCT4- and two SOX2-binding sites located in the proximal promoter of OTX2. Histone acetylation and methylation on the local promoter also participated in the reactivation of OTX2. The transcriptional conversion of RX1 and SIX3 genes partially attributed to DNA demethylation. Subsequently, iPSCs were induced into the RPE cells displaying the characteristics of polygonal shapes and pigments, and expressing typical RPE cell markers. Taken together, our results establish readily efficient and safe protocols to produce iPSCs and iPSC-derived RPE cells, and underline that the reactivation of anterior neural transcription factor OTX2, eye field transcription factor RX1 and SIX3 in iPSCs is a feature of pluripotency acquisition and predetermines the potential of RPE differentiation.

  • Toward more realistic projections of soil carbon dynamics by Earth system models
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Global Biogeochemical Cycles. - 0886-6236. ; 30:1, s. 40-56
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Soil carbon (C) is a critical component of Earth system models (ESMs), and its diverse representations are a major source of the large spread across models in the terrestrial C sink from the third to fifth assessment reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Improving soil C projections is of a high priority for Earth system modeling in the future IPCC and other assessments. To achieve this goal, we suggest that (1) model structures should reflect real-world processes, (2) parameters should be calibrated to match model outputs with observations, and (3) external forcing variables should accurately prescribe the environmental conditions that soils experience. First, most soil C cycle models simulate C input from litter production and C release through decomposition. The latter process has traditionally been represented by first-order decay functions, regulated primarily by temperature, moisture, litter quality, and soil texture. While this formulation well captures macroscopic soil organic C (SOC) dynamics, better understanding is needed of their underlying mechanisms as related to microbial processes, depth-dependent environmental controls, and other processes that strongly affect soil C dynamics. Second, incomplete use of observations in model parameterization is a major cause of bias in soil C projections from ESMs. Optimal parameter calibration with both pool- and flux-based data sets through data assimilation is among the highest priorities for near-term research to reduce biases among ESMs. Third, external variables are represented inconsistently among ESMs, leading to differences in modeled soil C dynamics. We recommend the implementation of traceability analyses to identify how external variables and model parameterizations influence SOC dynamics in different ESMs. Overall, projections of the terrestrial C sink can be substantially improved when reliable data sets are available to select the most representative model structure, constrain parameters, and prescribe forcing fields.

  • Self-reconstruction of twisted Laguerre-Gaussian Schell-model beams partially blocked by an opaque obstacle
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : The Optical Society. - 1094-4087. ; 28:21, s. 31510-31523
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Twisted Laguerre-Gaussian Schell model (TLGSM) beams are a novel type of partially coherent beams, which carry the twist phase and the vortex phase simultaneously. In this paper, the self-reconstruction (SR) of the TLGSM beam partially blocked by an opaque obstacle and propagating through a thin lens focusing system is studied in detail. Implementing the pseudo-mode expansion method, we represent the TLGSM beam as a superposition of spatially coherent modes, which is applicable for calculating the cross spectral density (CSD) and spectral degree of coherence (SDOC) of such a beam using the Fourier transform. The numerical results reveal that the twist parameter, a measure of the strength of a twist phase, determines the characteristics of the SR. In the case of the topological charge of the vortex is positive, the SR capability of spectral density is significantly improved with the increase of the twist parameter. The physical mechanism behind these phenomena is analyzed in detail from the point view of mode expansion. Further, the dependence of the side ring intensity and SR capability of the SDOC on the twist parameter are also investigated. It is found that the SR capability and side ring intensity of the SDOC are simultaneously enhanced for a large twist parameter, providing an efficient way to determine the number of topological charge. Our study results may find application in communication and information recovery applications.

  • Twisted Laguerre-Gaussian Schell-model beam and its orbital angular moment
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : Optical Society of America. - 1094-4087. ; 26:26, s. 33956-33969
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is well known that a light beam with vortex phase or twist phase carries orbital angular momentum (OAM), while twist phase only exists in a partially coherent beam. In this paper, we introduce a new partially coherent beam, named twisted Laguerre-Gaussian Schell-model (TLGSM) beam. This TLGSM beam carries both vortex phase and twist phase. Further, the evolutional properties of the spectral density and spectral degree of coherence (SDOC)] of the TLGSM beam passing through a paraxial ABCD optical system are explored in detail. Our results reveal that the vortex and twist phases' handedness significantly affects the evolution properties. When the twist phase's handedness is the same as that of the vortex phase, the beam profile maintains a dark hollow shape during propagation and the side rings in SDOC are suppressed; however, when the handedness of two phases is opposite, then the beam shape evolves into a Gaussian shape and the side rings in SDOC are enhanced. Furthermore. we obtain the analytical expression for the OAM of the TLGSM beam. It is found that the vortex phase's and twist phase's contributions to the OAM are interrelated, which greatly increases the amount of OAM. In addition, the OAM variation of the TLGSM beam passing through an anisotropic optical system is also explored in detail. Our results will be useful for information transfer and optical manipulations.

  • Observations of a Fast-expanding and UV-bright Type Ia Supernova SN 2013gs
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 872:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we present extensive optical and ultraviolet (UV) observations of the type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2013gs discovered during the Tsinghua-NAOC Transient Survey. The photometric observations in the optical show that the light curves of SN 2013gs are similar to those of normal SNe Ia, with an absolute peak magnitude of M-B = -19.25 +/- 0.15 mag and a post-maximum decline rate Delta m(15)(B) = 1.00 +/- 0.05 mag. Gehrels Swift Ultr-Violet/Optical Telescope observations indicate that SN 2013gs shows unusually strong UV emission (especially in the uvw1 band) at around the maximum light (M-uvw1 similar to -18.9 mag). The SN is characterized by relatively weak Fe II III absorptions at similar to 5000 angstrom in the early spectra and a larger expansion velocity (v(Si) similar to 13,000 km s(-1) around the maximum light) than the normal-velocity SNe Ia. We discuss the relation between the uvw1 - v color and some observables, including Si II velocity, line strength of Si II lambda 6355 and Fe II/III lines, and Delta m(15)(B). Compared to other fast-expanding SNe Ia, SN 2013gs exhibits Si and Fe absorption lines with similar strength and bluer uvw1 - v color. We briefly discussed the origin of the observed UV dispersion of SNe Ia.

  • Demo Abstract: Frequent Pattern-based Trajectory Completion
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 16th ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems. - New York, NY, USA : ACM. ; , s. 311-312
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • GPS sensors have been widely used to track people's everyday life trajectories, generating massive trajectory datasets. The trajectory data typically contains sparse GPS points, and completing trajectories is often necessary. State-of-the-art methods [3, 4] essentially complete the entire route by using a single metric, e.g., either the shortest distance or the fastest driving/walking time. Unfortunately, using a single metric may not always work in real life due to the diversity of mobility patterns. In this demo abstract, we propose a frequent pattern (FP)-based trajectory completion approach, and demonstrate a system prototype to showcase the advantages of our approach over four previous works, in terms of accuracy and running time.
