  • Photoemission and density functional theory study of Ge(100) : Clean surface and Yb-induced (2x4) reconstruction
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Surface Science. - : Elsevier. - 0039-6028 .- 1879-2758. ; 615, s. 88-96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clean and metal-adsorbed (100) surfaces of group-IV semiconductors, such as Si and Ge, often exhibit electronically and structurally similar reconstructions. However, the fundamental bulk properties of group-IV materials can have an impact on particular features of such systems, which are related, e.g., to final-state relaxation in photoemission and thus determine their spectral line shape. Here we have studied Yb/Ge(100)(2 x 4) reconstruction as well as clean Ge(100) surface by high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. An atomic geometry of both surfaces is thoroughly investigated. A detailed analysis of Ge 3d core-level photoemission, atomic origins of surface-shifted components, and final-state screening effects is presented. In particular, it is demonstrated that the core-hole screening plays an essential role in Ge 3d measurements, and that its amount in the complete screening model correlates well with the core-level binding energy of respective Ge atoms in the initial state. The results are discussed in the proper context of related reconstructions on Si(100).

  • Core-level shifts of the c(8 x 2)-reconstructed InAs(100) and InSb(100) surfaces
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena. - : Elsevier BV. - 0368-2048 .- 1873-2526. ; 177:1, s. 52-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have studied In-stabilized c(8 2)-reconstructed InAs(1 0 0) and InSb(1 0 0) semiconductor surfaces, which play a key role in growing improved III-V interfaces for electronics devices, by core-level photoelectron spectroscopy and first-principles calculations. The calculated surface core-level shifts (SCLSs) for the zeta and zeta a models, which have been previously established to describe the atomic structures of the III-V(1 00)c(8 x 2) surfaces, yield hitherto not reported interpretation for the As 3d, In 4d, and Sb 4d core-level spectra of the III-V(1 00)c(8 x 2) surfaces, concerning the number and origins of SCLSs. The fitting analysis of the measured spectra with the calculated zeta and zeta a SCLS values shows that the InSb spectra are reproduced by the zeta SCLSs better than by the zeta a SCLSs. Interestingly, the zeta a fits agree better with the InAs spectra than the zeta fits do, indicating that the zeta a model describes the InAs surface better than the InSb surface. These results are in agreement with previous X-ray diffraction data. Furthermore, an introduction of the complete-screening model, which includes both the initial and final state effects, does not improve the fitting of the InSb spectra, proposing the suitability of the initial-state model for the SCLSs of the III-V(1 0 0)c(8 x 2) surfaces. The found SCLSs are discussed with the ab initio on-site charges.

  • PTFE bypass or thrupass for superficial femoral artery occlusion? : A randomised controlled trial
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. - : Elsevier BV. - 1078-5884 .- 1532-2165. ; 37:5, s. 578-584
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Early results of a thrupass endograft in the treatment of femoral lesions are promising. Less morbidity and better cost-effectiveness are suggested to be achieved in the treatment of chronic lower limb ischaemia with endovascular treatment compared to surgical treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This randomised multicentre trial aimed to enroll a group of 60+60 patients for the treatment of 5-25-cm occlusions of superficial femoral artery (SFA) to be followed up for 3 years. Patients were treated either with endoluminal PTFE thrupass (WL Gore & Ass) or with surgical polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bypass to proximal popliteal artery. Primary patency at 3 years was scheduled to be the primary end-point and secondary patency, functional success, costs and quality of life the secondary end-points. RESULTS: A sample of 100 consecutive SFA occlusions in one of the centres revealed that only 4% of the lesions were amenable for the study. The trial was prematurely terminated due to the results of an interim analysis at the time when 44 patients were recruited: the 1-year primary patency (excluding technical failures) was 48% for thrupass and 95% for bypass (p=0.02). The patency difference in favour of surgical bypass over endovascular thrupass was also sustained after completion of 1-year follow-up, the primary patencies being 46% and 84% at 1 year with grossly equilinear life-table curves thereafter (p=0.18), respectively. The corresponding secondary patencies were 63% and 100% (p=0.05) when excluding technical failures and 58% and 100% (p=0.02) according to intention-to-treat analysis. Secondary outcomes were thus not analysed. CONCLUSION: Treatment of SFA occlusions (TASC IIB and C or Imelda Ia and II) should be done by PTFE bypass rather than by PTFE thrupass, as thrupass is connected with worse early outcome. These results represent only a small category of femoral disease.

  • Gene x dietary pattern interactions in obesity : analysis of up to 68 317 adults of European ancestry
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Human Molecular Genetics. - : Oxford University Press. - 0964-6906 .- 1460-2083. ; 24:16, s. 4728-4738
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Obesity is highly heritable. Genetic variants showing robust associationswith obesity traits have been identified through genome wide association studies. We investigated whether a composite score representing healthy diet modifies associations of these variants with obesity traits. Totally, 32 body mass index (BMI)- and 14 waist-hip ratio (WHR)-associated single nucleotide polymorphismswere genotyped, and genetic risk scores (GRS) were calculated in 18 cohorts of European ancestry (n = 68 317). Diet score was calculated based on self-reported intakes of whole grains, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts/seeds (favorable) and red/processed meats, sweets, sugar-sweetened beverages and fried potatoes (unfavorable). Multivariable adjusted, linear regression within each cohort followed by inverse variance-weighted, fixed-effects meta-analysis was used to characterize: (a) associations of each GRS with BMI and BMI-adjustedWHR and (b) diet score modification of genetic associations with BMI and BMI-adjusted WHR. Nominally significant interactions (P = 0.006-0.04) were observed between the diet score and WHR-GRS (but not BMI-GRS), two WHR loci (GRB14 rs10195252; LYPLAL1 rs4846567) and two BMI loci (LRRN6C rs10968576; MTIF3 rs4771122), for the respective BMI-adjustedWHR or BMI outcomes. Although the magnitudes of these select interactions were small, our data indicated that associations between genetic predisposition and obesity traits were stronger with a healthier diet. Our findings generate interesting hypotheses; however, experimental and functional studies are needed to determine their clinical relevance.

  • Hankel operators induced by radial Bekolle-Bonami weights on Bergman spaces
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Mathematische Zeitschrift. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0025-5874 .- 1432-1823.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study big Hankel operators H-f(nu) : A(omega)(p) -> L-nu(q) generated by radial Bekolle-Bonami weights nu, when 1 < p <= q < infinity. Here the radial weight omega is assumed to satisfy a two-sided doubling condition, and A(omega)(p) denotes the corresponding weighted Bergman space. A characterization for simultaneous boundedness of H-f(nu) and H nu/f is provided in terms of a general weighted mean oscillation. Compared to the case of standard weights that was recently obtained by Pau et al. (Indiana Univ Math J 65(5):1639-1673, 2016), the respective spaces depend on the weights omega and nu in an essentially stronger sense. This makes our analysis deviate from the blueprint of this more classical setting. As a consequence of our main result, we also study the case of anti-analytic symbols.

  • Atomistic study of surfaces and interfaces of Fe-Cr and Fe-Cr-Al alloys
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical and numerical simulation of materials processing VII. - : Trans Tech Publications Inc.. - 9783037857281 ; , s. 728-733
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Surface and interface properties of Fe-Cr, Fe-Al, and Fe-Cr-Al are studied using Exact Muffin-Tin Orbitals and Monte Carlo methods and with x-ray photoelectron and Auger electron techniques. Surface composition is investigated as a function of oxidation (heating) time. Hard x ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES) is used to scan non destructively the compositions below the surface. It is found that Cr boosts the Al segregation to the surface.

  • Volterra type integration operators from Bergman spaces to Hardy spaces
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Functional Analysis. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-1236 .- 1096-0783. ; 279:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We completely characterize the boundedness of the Volterra type integration operators J(b) acting from the weighted Bergman spaces A(alpha)(p) to the Hardy spaces H-q of the unit ball of C-n for all 0 < p, q < infinity. A partial solution to the case n = 1 was previously obtained by Z. Wu in [35]. We solve the cases left open there and extend all the results to the setting of arbitrary complex dimension n. Our tools involve area methods from harmonic analysis, Carleson measures and Kahane-Khinchine type inequalities, factorization tricks for tent spaces of sequences, as well as techniques and integral estimates related to Hardy and Bergman spaces. • A Toeplitz-type operator on Hardy spaces in the unit ball
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Transactions of the American Mathematical Society. - : American Mathematical Society (AMS). - 0002-9947 .- 1088-6850. ; 373:5, s. 3031-3062
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study a Toeplitz-type operator Q(mu) between the holomorphic Hardy spaces H-p and H-q of the unit ball. Here the generating symbol mu is assumed to be a positive Borel measure. This kind of operator is related to many classical mappings acting on Hardy spaces, such as composition operators, the Volterra-type integration operators, and Carleson embeddings. We completely characterize the boundedness and compactness of Q(mu) : H-p -> H-q for the full range 1 < p, q < infinity; and also describe the membership in the Schatten classes of H-2. In the last section of the paper, we demonstrate the usefulness of Q(mu) through applications.
