  • Fathers' sense of security during the first postnatal week-A qualitative interview study in Sweden
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Midwifery. - : Elsevier BV. - 0266-6138 .- 1532-3099. ; 28:5, s. e697-e704
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background father's sense of security in the early postnatal period is important for the whole family. An instrument, which measures Parents' Postnatal Sense of Security (the PPSS instrument), is under development. Objective to explore and describe factors, which influence fathers' sense of security during the first postnatal week. Methods an explorative design with a qualitative approach was used. Thirteen fathers from three hospital uptake areas in Southern Sweden were interviewed using focus group discussions and individual interviews. Analysis was carried out using qualitative content analysis.Findings participation in the processes of pregnancy birth and early parenthood emerged as the main category for fathers' postnatal sense of security. The emergent categories were; ‘willingness to participate and take responsibility’, ‘being given the opportunity to take responsibility’, ‘being assured about mother's and baby's well-being’, ‘having someone to turn to—knowing who to ask’, ‘being met as an individual’ and ‘being met by competent and supporting staff’.Key conclusions and implications for practice new and specific items of importance when investigating fathers' sense of security during the early postnatal period have been pinpointed. Fathers' sense of early postnatal security may be enhanced by giving them a genuine opportunity to participate in the whole process and by giving them the opportunity to stay overnight at the hospital after the birth. Midwives and care organisations need to give clear information about where competent help and advice can be obtained at all hours. Midwives should strengthen the fathering role by acknowledging and listening to the father as an individual person.

  • A human protein atlas for normal and cancer tissues based on antibody proteomics
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Molecular & Cellular Proteomics. - 1535-9476 .- 1535-9484. ; 4:12, s. 1920-1932
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibody-based proteomics provides a powerful approach for the functional study of the human proteome involving the systematic generation of protein-specific affinity reagents. We used this strategy to construct a comprehensive, antibody-based protein atlas for expression and localization profiles in 48 normal human tissues and 20 different cancers. Here we report a new publicly available database containing, in the first version, similar to 400,000 high resolution images corresponding to more than 700 antibodies toward human proteins. Each image has been annotated by a certified pathologist to provide a knowledge base for functional studies and to allow queries about protein profiles in normal and disease tissues. Our results suggest it should be possible to extend this analysis to the majority of all human proteins thus providing a valuable tool for medical and biological research.

  • Randomized healthservices study of human papillomavirus-based management of low-grade cytological abnormalities.
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cancer. - : Wiley. - 0020-7136 .- 1097-0215. ; okt, s. 151-159
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)-based management of women with borderline (ASCUS) or mildly abnormal (CINI) cervical cytology has been extensively studied in the research setting. We wished to assess safety and healthcare resource use of a real-life healthcare policy using HPV triaging. All 15 outpatient clinics involved in the organized population-based screening program in Stockholm, Sweden screening program were randomized to either continue with prior policy (colposcopy of all women with ASCUS/CINI) or to implement a policy with HPV triaging and colposcopy only of HPV-positive women. The trial enrolled the 3319 women that were diagnosed with ASCUS (n=1335) or CINI (n=1984) in Stockholm during 17(th) March 2003 to 16(th) January 2006. Detection of high-grade cervical lesions (CINII+) and health care cost consumption was studied by registry linkages. The proportion of histopathology-verified CINII+ was similar for the 2 policies (395/1752 women (22.5%; 95% Confidence interval (CI): 20,6-24,6%) had CINII+ diagnosed with HPV triaging policy, 318/1567 women (20.3%; 95%CI: 18,3-22,4%)) had CINII+ with colposcopy policy). 64% of women with ASCUS and 77% of women with CINI were HPV-positive. HPV-positivity was age-dependent, with 81% of women below 35 years of age and 44% of women above 45 years of age testing HPV-positive. HPV triaging was cost-effective only above 35 years of age.In conclusion, a real-life randomised healthservices study of HPV triaging of women with ASCUS/CINI demonstrated similar detection of CINII+ as colposcopy of all women.

  • Nionde nationella prioriteringskonferensen 2017 : En summering
  • 2017

  • Expectant first-time fathers’ experiences of pregnancy
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Midwifery. - : Elsevier. - 0266-6138 .- 1532-3099. ; 19:2, s. 96-105
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: to describe first-time-expectant fathers’ experiences of pregnancy.Design: an inductive method using narrative interview formand qualitative content textanalysis. The text of the transcriptswas coded and categorised.Settings and participants: seven first-time-expectant fathers living in a multicultural industrial town in southern Sweden were interviewed individually when their partner was in the 38th to 39thweek of pregnancy.Measurements and findings: all the fathers-to-be experienced some psychological, socialand/or physical change during the pregnancy. The main category, was ‘time of transition’. Eight categories were found under this. They were: ‘feelings of unreality, ‘insufficiency and inadequacy’, ‘exclusion’, ‘reality’, ‘social changes’, ‘physical changes’, ‘responsibility, and development’.Key conclusion: the fathers’-to-be special needs for support and encouragement durin gpregnancymay be as important as those of the mothers’-to-be. The caregiver needs to be as aware of and sensitive to these needs. However, before any interventions can be recommendedmore research is needed.
