  • Clinical characteristics and primary treatment of prostate cancer in Sweden between 1996 and 2005 : Data from the national prostate cancer register in Sweden
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology. - Stockholm : Taylor & Francis. - 0036-5599 .- 1651-2065. ; 41:6, s. 456-477
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. The incidence of prostate cancer is rising rapidly in Sweden and there is a need to better understand the pattern of diagnosis, tumor characteristics and treatment. Material and methods. Between 1996 and 2005, all new cases of adenocarcinoma of the prostate gland were intended to be registered in the National Prostate Cancer Register (NPCR). This register contains information on diagnosing unit, date of diagnosis, cause of diagnosis, tumor grade, tumor stage according to the TNM classification in force, serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels at diagnosis and primary treatment given within the first 6 months after diagnosis. Results. In total, 72 028 patients were registered, comprising >97% of all pertinent incident cases of prostate cancer in the Swedish Cancer Register (SCR). During the study period there was a considerable decrease in median age at the time of diagnosis, a stage migration towards smaller tumors, a decrease in median serum PSA values at diagnosis, a decrease in the age-standardized incidence rate of men diagnosed with distant metastases or with a PSA level of >100 ng/ml at diagnosis and an increase in the proportion of tumors with Gleason score ≤6. Relatively large geographical differences in the median age at diagnosis and the age-standardized incidence of cases with category T1c tumors were observed. Treatment with curative intent increased dramatically and treatment patterns varied according to geographical region. In men with localized tumors and a PSA level of <20 ng/ml at diagnosis, expectant treatment was more commonly used in those aged ≥75 years than in those aged <75 years. Also, the pattern of endocrine treatment varied in different parts of Sweden. Conclusions. All changes in the register seen over time are consistent with increased diagnostic activity, especially PSA testing, resulting in an increased number of cases with early disease, predominantly tumors in category T1c. The patterns of diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer vary considerably in different parts of Sweden. The NPCR continues to be an important source for research, epidemiological surveillance of the incidence, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer

  • Association of susceptibility to multiple sclerosis in Sweden with HLA class II DRB1 and DQB1 alleles
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Human Immunology. - 0198-8859 .- 1879-1166. ; 39:1, s. 41-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The association of MS with HLA class II alleles was studied by PCR-based typing of the DQA1, DQB1, DRB1, and DPB1 loci in 94 Swedish patients with relapses and remissions of the disease. The haplotype DRB1*1501-DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602 was found to be positively associated and three haplotypes were found to be negatively associated with MS. Linkage disequilibrium makes it difficult to assess whether DRB1 or DQB1 plays the primary role in the disease association, while the association with DPB1 and DQA1 appears to be secondary to that of DQB1 and DRB1. Two of the three haplotypes negatively associated with MS carry the DQB1*0301 allele. Also, the negatively associated DRB1*0401-DQA1*0301-DQB1*0301 haplotype differs from those with nonassociated DRB1*0401-DQA1*0301-DQB1*0302 haplotype only at DQB1. These results suggest that DQB1 alleles, as well as some DRB1 alleles, are involved in susceptibility and protection to MS. In searching for sequence motifs in the DR beta chain associated with MS susceptibility, all DRB1 alleles on haplotypes positively associated with MS, including the DRB1*1501, were found to encode a Val at position 86 of the DR beta chain. Also, DRB1 alleles that are negatively associated with MS all encode a Gly at position 86, suggesting that the residue at position 86 may be critical in conferring susceptibility and protection to MS. Finally, when the effect of the DRB1*1501 haplotype was removed there was no support for the hypothesis that MS is associated with a putative DQ-alpha beta heterodimer, encoded for by certain DQA1 and DQB1 alleles.

  • Utilizing MRI, [18F]FDG-PET and [89Zr]Zr-DFO-28H1 FAP-PET tracer to assess inflammation and fibrogenesis in a reproducible lung injury rat model : a multimodal imaging study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Nuclear Medicine. - 2673-8880. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: Accurate imaging biomarkers that indicate disease progression at an early stage are highly important to enable timely mitigation of symptoms in progressive lung disease. In this context, reproducible experimental models and readouts are key. Here, we aim to show reproducibility of a lung injury rat model, by inducing disease and assessing disease progression by multi-modal non-invasive imaging techniques at two different research sites. Furthermore, we evaluated the potential of fibroblast activating protein (FAP) as an imaging biomarker in the early stage of lung fibrosis. Methods: An initial lung injury rat model was set up at one research site (Lund University, Lund, Sweden) and repeated at a second site (Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands). To induce lung injury, Sprague-Dawley rats received intratracheal instillation of bleomycin as one single dose (1,000 iU in 200 µL) or saline as control. Thereafter, longitudinal images were acquired to track inflammation in the lungs, at 1 and 2 weeks after the bleomycin challenge by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and [18F]FDG-PET. After the final [18F]FDG-PET scan, rats received an intravenous tracer [89Zr]Zr-DFO-28H1 (anti-FAP antibody) and were imaged at day 15, to track fibrogenesis. Upon termination, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed to assess cell and protein concentration. Subsequently, the biodistribution of [89Zr]Zr-DFO-28H1 was measured ex vivo and the spatial distribution in lung tissue was studied by autoradiography. Lung sections were stained, and fibrosis assessed using the modified Ashcroft score. Results: Bleomycin-challenged rats showed body weight loss and increased numbers of immune cells and protein concentrations after BAL compared with control animals. The initiation and progression of the disease were reproduced at both research sites. Lung lesions in bleomycin-exposed rats were visualized by MRI and confirmed by histology. [18F]FDG uptake was higher in the lungs of bleomycin-challenged rats compared with the controls, similar to that observed in the Lund study. [89Zr]Zr-DFO-28H1 tracer uptake in the lung was increased in bleomycin-challenged rats compared with control rats (p = 0.03). Conclusion: Here, we demonstrate a reproducible lung injury model and monitored disease progression using conventional imaging biomarkers MRI and [18F]FDG-PET. Furthermore, we showed the first proof-of-concept of FAP imaging. This reproducible and robust animal model and imaging experimental set-up allows for future research on new therapeutics or biomarkers in lung disease.

  • Measurement of η meson decays into lepton-antilepton pairs
  • 2007
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A search for rare lepton decays of the η meson was performed using the WASA detector at CELSIUS. Two candidates for double Dalitz decay η→e+e−e+e− events are reported with a background of 1.3±0.2 events. This allows to set an upper limit to the branching ratio of 9.7×10−5 η(90% CL). The branching ratio for the decay η→e+e−γ is determined to (7.8±0.5stat ±0.8syst)×10−3 in agreement with world average value. An upper limit (90% CL) for the branching ratio for the η→e+e− decay is 2.7 × 10−5 and a limit for the sum of the η→μ+μ−μ+μ− and η→π+π−μ+μ− decays is 3.6 × 10−4.

  • Characterisation of EBM-built shelled samples of Ti6Al4V compacted by HIP
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: World PM 2016 Congress and Exhibition. - : European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA). - 9781899072484
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Compaction of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V components by Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is often applied to eliminate porosity, producing fully dense material. In the present work shelled samples produced by Electron Beam Melting with the Arcam process (EBM) were compacted by HIP to produce fully dense samples. Cylindrical samples were studied. The walls of the cylinders were built with EBM, and the powder from the process was left uncompacted inside the cylinders. Samples with different wall thicknesses were produced. The samples were thereafter subjected to a HIP compaction. The critical wall thicknesses needed for compaction were evaluated, and the microstructures characterized. The results show that fully dense samples, with very fine microstructures, are possible.

  • Compound materials by PM-HIP
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Powder Metallurgy. - 0032-5899 .- 1743-2901. ; 57:5, s. 341-347
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There are many applications where compound materials can be of interest, for example when different properties are needed in different parts of a component. Compound materials can be produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of powder metallurgical materials. One aspect that should be considered in the design is the quality of the interface between the two different material compositions. Diffusion during HIP can cause formation of brittle phases in the interface or deteriorate properties by diffusion of alloying elements. The present work shows results from a study where different steel types were joined (quench and temper steel/air hardening steel/bearing steel with a tool steel/corrosion resistant martensitic steel). The evaluation was performed by computational predictions and by small scale HIP experiments that were evaluated by microstructure analysis and chemical analysis. © 2014 Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

  • A Toolbox of Feminist Wonder : Theories and methods that can make a difference
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: CSCW '23 Companion. - New York : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9798400701290 ; , s. 476-480
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • theoretical and methodological approaches that have provided us with useful tools to see things differently and make space for change. Since its inception over a decade ago, feminist HCI has progressed from the margins to mainstream HCI, with numerous references in the literature. Feminist HCI has also evolved to incorporate other critical HCI practices such as Queer HCI, participatory design, and speculative design. While feminist approaches have grown in popularity and become mainstream, it is getting more difficult to distinguish the feminist emancipatory core from other attempts of developing and improving society in various ways. In this workshop, we therefore want to revisit our feminist roots, where theory is a liberatory and creative practice, motivated by affect, curiosity, and wonder. From this standpoint, we consider which of our feminist tools can make a significant difference today, in a highly datafied world. The goal of this workshop is to; 1) create an inventory of feminist theories and concepts that have had an impact on our work as designers, educators, researchers, and activists; 2) develop a feminist toolbox for the CSCW community to strengthen our feminist literacy.
