  • A Compact High-Gain Coplanar Waveguide-Fed Antenna for Military RADAR Applications
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Antennas and Propagation. - : HINDAWI LTD. - 1687-5869 .- 1687-5877. ; 2020
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a new design of a compact, high-gain coplanar waveguide-fed antenna and proposes a multielement approach to attain enhanced characteristics. The proposed method overcomes the simulation and geometrical complexity and achieves optimal performance features. The antenna prototype is carefully designed, and simulation results have been analyzed. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a new WangLing TP-2 laminate with dimensions (0.195 lambda x 0.163 lambda x 0.0052 lambda) at the lowest resonance of 9.78 GHz. The results have been tested and experimentally verified. The antenna model achieved excellent performance including a peak realized gain better than 9.0 dBi, optimal radiation efficiency better than 87.6% over the operating band, and a good relative bandwidth of 11.48% at 10 dB return loss. Symmetrical stable far-field radiation pattern in orthogonal planes and strong distribution of current are observed. Moreover, a comparative analysis with state-of-the-artwork is presented. The measured and simulation result shows a good agreement. The high-performance antenna results reveal that the proposed model is a good contender of military airborne, land, and naval radar applications.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering. - : American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). - 1547-1063 .- 1551-0018. ; 18:6, s. 7344-7362
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • These days, healthcare applications on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) network have been growing to deal with different diseases via different sensors. These healthcare sensors are connecting to the various healthcare fog servers. The hospitals are geographically distributed and offer different services to the patients from any ubiquitous network. However, due to the full offloading of data to the insecure servers, two main challenges exist in the IoMT network. (i) Data security of workflows healthcare applications between different fog healthcare nodes. (ii) The cost-efficient and QoS efficient scheduling of healthcare applications in the IoMT system. This paper devises the Cost-Efficient Service Selection and Execution and Blockchain-Enabled Serverless Network for Internet of Medical Things system. The goal is to choose cost-efficient services and schedule all tasks based on their QoS and minimum execution cost. Simulation results show that the proposed outperform all existing schemes regarding data security, validation by 10%, and cost of application execution by 33% in IoMT.

  • A survey on 802.11 MAC protocols industrial standards, architecture elements for providing QoS guarantee, supporting emergency traffic, and security : Future directions
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Industrial Information Integration. - : Elsevier BV. - 2467-964X .- 2452-414X. ; 24:Dec 2021
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The IEEE 802.11-based Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) has become a ubiquitous networking technology deployed around the world. IEEE 802.11 WLAN are now widely used for real-time multimedia applications (e.g. voice and video streaming) and distributed emergency services such as telemedicine, healthcare, and disaster recovery. Both time-sensitive applications and emergency traffic are not only characterized by their high bandwidth requirements, but also impose severe restrictions on end-to-end packet delays (i.e. response time), jitter (i.e. delay variance) and packet losses. In other words, time-sensitive applications and emergency services require a strict Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is one of the key factors that influence the performance of WLANs. The IEEE 802.11e working group enhanced the 802.11 MAC to provide QoS support in WLANs. However, recent studies have shown that 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) standard has limitations and it neither supports strict QoS guarantee nor emergency traffic. Providing a strict QoS guarantee as well as supporting emergency traffic under high traffic loads is really a challenging task in WLANs. A thorough review of literature on QoS MAC protocols reveals that most QoS schemes have focused on either network throughput enhancement or service differentiation by adjusting Contention Window (CW) or Inter-Frame Spaces (IFS). Therefore, a research on developing techniques to provide a strict QoS guarantee as well as support for emergency traffic is required in such systems. To achieve this objective, a general understanding of WLANs is required. This paper aims introduce various key concepts of WLANs that are necessary for design, model and develop such framework. Our main contribution in this paper is the QoS for IEEE 802.11 WLAN and MAC protocols for supporting industrial emergency traffic over network and future directions.

  • A Multi-sensor Data Fusion Enabled Ensemble Approach for Medical Data from Body Sensor Networks
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Information Fusion. - : Elsevier. - 1566-2535 .- 1872-6305. ; 53:2020, s. 155-164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wireless Body Sensor Network (BSNs) are wearable sensors with varying sensing, storage, computation, and transmission capabilities. When data is obtained from multiple devices, multi-sensor fusion is desirable to transform potentially erroneous sensor data into high quality fused data. In this work, a data fusion enabled Ensemble approach is proposed to work with medical data obtained from BSNs in a fog computing environment. Daily activity data is obtained from a collection of sensors which is fused together to generate high quality activity data. The fused data is later input to an Ensemble classifier for early heart disease prediction. The ensembles are hosted in a Fog computing environment and the prediction computations are performed in a decentralised manners. The results from the individual nodes in the fog computing environment are then combined to produce a unified output. For the classification purpose, a novel kernel random forest ensemble is used that produces significantly better quality results than random forest. An extensive experimental study supports the applicability of the solution and the obtained results are promising, as we obtain 98% accuracy when the tree depth is equal to 15, number of estimators is 40, and 8 features are considered for the prediction task.

  • 2020
  • Ingår i: INTERNET OF THINGS. - : ELSEVIER. - 2543-1536 .- 2542-6605. ; 12

    • Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a new technology that makes computer networks farther programmable. SDN is currently attracting significant consideration from both academia and industry. SDN is simplifying organisations to implement applications and assist flexible delivery, offering the capability of scaling network resources in lockstep with application and data. This technology allows the user to manage the network easily by permitting the user to control the applications and operating system. SDN not only introduces new ways of interaction within network devices, but it also gives more flexibility for the existing and future networking designs and operations. SDN is an innovative approach to design, implement, and manage networks that separate the network control (control plane) and the forwarding process (data plane) for a better user experience. The main differentiation between SDN and Traditional Networking is that SDN removes the decision-making part from the routers and it provides, logically, a centralised Control-Plane that creates a network view for the control and management applications. Through the establishment of SDN, many new network capabilities and services have been enabled, such as Software Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Network Virtualisation and Automation, and Orchestration for Cloud Applications. This paper surveys the state-of-the-art contribution such as a comparison between SDN and traditional networking. Also, comparison with other survey works on SDN, new information about controller, details about OpenFlow architecture, configuration, comprehensive contribution about SDN security threat and countermeasures, SDN applications, benefit of SDN, and Emulation & Tested for SDN. In addition, some existing and representative SDN tools from both industry and academia are explained. Moreover, future direction of SDN security solutions is discussed in detail. • AI-Enabled Reliable Channel Modelling Architecture for  FoG Computing Vehicular Networks’
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Wireless Communication Magazine. - IEEE : IEEE. - 1536-1284 .- 1558-0687. ; 27:2, s. 14-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven fog computing (FC) and its emerging role in vehicular networks is playing a remarkable role in revolutionizing daily human lives. Fog radio access networks are accommodating billions of Internet of Things devices for real-time interactive applications at high reliability. One of the critical challenges in today's vehicular networks is the lack of standard wireless channel models with better quality of service (QoS) for passengers while enjoying pleasurable travel (i.e., highly visualized videos, images, news, phone calls to friends/relatives). To remedy these issues, this article contributes significantly in four ways. First, we develop a novel AI-based reliable and interference-free mobility management algorithm (RIMMA) for fog computing intra-vehicular networks, because traffic monitoring and driver's safety management are important and basic foundations. The proposed RIMMA in association with FC significantly improves computation, communication, cooperation, and storage space. Furthermore, its self-adaptive, reliable, intelligent, and mobility-aware nature, and sporadic contents are monitored effectively in highly mobile vehicles. Second, we propose a reliable and delay-tolerant wireless channel model with better QoS for passengers. Third, we propose a novel reliable and efficient multi-layer fog driven inter-vehicular framework. Fourth, we optimize QoS in terms of mobility, reliability, and packet loss ratio. Also, the proposed RIMMA is compared to an existing competitive conventional method (i.e., baseline). Experimental results reveal that the proposed RIMMA outperforms the traditional technique for intercity vehicular networks.

  • 5G-based Transmission Power Control Mechanism in Fog Computing for IoT Devices
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI. - 2071-1050. ; 10:4, s. 1258-1258
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • og computing has become the revolutionary paradigm and one of the intelligent services of the 5th Generation (5G) emerging network, while Internet of Things (IoT) lies under its main umbrella. Enhancing and optimizing the quality of service (QoS) in Fog computing networks is one of the critical challenges of the present. In the meantime, strong links between the Fog, IoT devices and the supporting back-end servers is done through large scale cloud data centers and with the linear exponential trend of IoT devices and voluminous generated data. Fog computing is one of the vital and potential solutions for IoT in close connection with things and end users with less latency but due to high computational complexity, less storage capacity and more power drain in the cloud it is inappropriate choice. So, to remedy this issue, we propose transmission power control (TPC) based QoS optimization algorithm named (QoS-TPC) in the Fog computing. Besides, we propose the Fog-IoT-TPC-QoS architecture and establish the connection between TPC and Fog computing by considering static and dynamic conditions of wireless channel. Experimental results examine that proposed QoS-TPC optimizes the QoS in terms of maximum throughput, less delay, less jitter and minimum energy drain as compared to the conventional that is, ATPC, SKims and constant TPC methods

  • A Joint Transmission Power Control and Duty-Cycle Approach for Smart Healthcare System
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Sensors Journal. - : IEEE. - 1530-437X .- 1558-1748. ; 19:19, s. 8479-8486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Emerging revolution in the healthcare has caught the attention of both the industry and academia due to the rapid proliferation in the wearable devices and innovative techniques. In the mean-time, Body Sensor Networks (BSNs) have become the potential candidate in transforming the entire landscape of the medical world. However, large battery lifetime and less power drain are very vital for these resource-constrained sensor devices while collecting the bio-signals. Hence, minimizing their charge and energy depletions are still very challenging tasks. It is examined through large real-time data sets that due to the dynamic nature of the wireless channel, the traditional predictive transmission power control (PTPC) and a constant transmission power techniques are no more supportive and potential candidates for BSNs. Thus this paper first, proposes a novel joint transmission power control (TPC) and duty-cycle adaptation based framework for pervasive healthcare. Second, adaptive energy-efficient transmission power control (AETPC) algorithm is developed by adapting the temporal variation in the on-body wireless channel amid static (i.e., standing and walking at a constant speed) and dynamic (i.e., running) body postures. Third, a Feedback Control-based duty-cycle algorithm is proposed for adjusting the execution period of tasks (i.e., sensing and transmission). Fourth, system-level battery and energy harvesting models are proposed for body sensor nodes by examining the energy depletion of sensing and transmission tasks. It is validated through Monte Carlo experimental analysis that proposed algorithm saves more energy of 11.5% with reasonable packet loss ratio (PLR) by adjusting both transmission power and duty-cycle unlike the conventional constant TPC and PTPC methods.

  • A Lightweight Security Scheme for Failure Detection in Microservices IoT-Edge Networks
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sensing Technology. - Cham : Springer. ; , s. 397-409
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Nowadays, microservices-based applications such as E-Business, E-Healthcare, 3D-Gaming, and Augmented Reality have latterly drawn attention in the research area. The microservices enabled applications are different from traditional monolithic applications with high demand of security and fault detection, therefore, a lightweight secure and failure detection enabled schemes widely required for the new applications. This paper proposes a new lightweight microservices mobile cloud (Mob-Cloud) framework that replaces the heavyweight virtual machine (VM) based on mobile cloud computing (MCC). The study devises MFHE (Modified Fully Homomorphism Encryption) and WATFA (Workload Assignment Transient Fault Aware) schemes to deal with security and failures. Simulation results show that the proposals are practical for the considered problem.
