  • Orchestration of Network Services across multiple operators : The 5G Exchange prototype
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: EuCNC 2017 - European Conference on Networks and Communications. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781538638736
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Future 5G networks will rely on the coordinated allocation of compute, storage, and networking resources in order to meet the functional requirements of 5G services as well as guaranteeing efficient usage of the network infrastructure. However, the 5G service provisioning paradigm will also require a unified infrastructure service market that integrates multiple operators and technologies. The 5G Exchange (5GEx) project, building heavily on the Software-Defined Network (SDN) and the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) functionalities, tries to overcome this market and technology fragmentation by designing, implementing, and testing a multi-domain orchestrator (MdO) prototype for fast and automated Network Service (NS) provisioning over multiple-technologies and spanning across multiple operators. This paper presents a first implementation of the 5GEx MdO prototype obtained by extending existing open source software tools at the disposal of the 5GEx partners. The main functions of the 5GEx MdO prototype are showcased by demonstrating how it is possible to create and deploy NSs in the context of a Slice as a Service (SlaaS) use-case, based on a multi-operator scenario. The 5GEx MdO prototype performance is experimentally evaluated running validation tests within the 5GEx sandbox. The overall time required for the NS deployment has been evaluated considering NSs deployed across two operators.

  • The genome of the green anole lizard and a comparative analysis with birds and mammals
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 477:7366, s. 587-591

    • The evolution of the amniotic egg was one of the great evolutionary innovations in the history of life, freeing vertebrates from an obligatory connection to water and thus permitting the conquest of terrestrial environments(1). Among amniotes, genome sequences are available for mammals and birds(2-4), but not for non-avian reptiles. Here we report the genome sequence of the North American green anole lizard, Anolis carolinensis. We find that A. carolinensis microchromosomes are highly syntenic with chicken microchromosomes, yet do not exhibit the high GC and low repeat content that are characteristic of avian microchromosomes(2). Also, A. carolinensis mobile elements are very young and diverse-more so than in any other sequenced amniote genome. The GC content of this lizard genome is also unusual in its homogeneity, unlike the regionally variable GC content found in mammals and birds(5). We describe and assign sequence to the previously unknown A. carolinensis X chromosome. Comparative gene analysis shows that amniote egg proteins have evolved significantly more rapidly than other proteins. An anole phylogeny resolves basal branches to illuminate the history of their repeated adaptive radiations.

    • Semi-supervised learning (SSL) uses unlabeled data during training to learn better models. Previous studies on SSL for medical image segmentation focused mostly on improving model generalization to unseen data. In some applications, however, our primary interest is not generalization but to obtain optimal predictions on a specific unlabeled database that is fully available during model development. Examples include population studies for extracting imaging phenotypes. This work investigates an often overlooked aspect of SSL, transduction. It focuses on the quality of predictions made on the unlabeled data of interest when they are included for optimization during training, rather than improving generalization. We focus on the self-training framework and explore its potential for transduction. We analyze it through the lens of Information Gain and reveal that learning benefits from the use of calibrated or under-confident models. Our extensive experiments on a large MRI database for multi-class segmentation of traumatic brain lesions shows promising results when comparing transductive with inductive predictions. We believe this study will inspire further research on transductive learning, a well-suited paradigm for medical image analysis.

  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery. - : Wiley. - 0194-5998 .- 1097-6817. ; 148, s. 26-36
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. This report reviews the literature to identify the advances in our understanding of the middle ear (ME)Eustachian tube (ET) system during the past 4 years and, on that basis, to determine whether the short-term goals elaborated in the last report were achieved and propose updated goals to guide future otitis media (OM) research. Data Sources. Databases searched included PubMed, Web of Science (1945-present), Medline (1950 to present), Biosis Previews (1969-present), and the Zoological Record (1978 to present). The initial literature search covered the time interval from January 2007 to June 2011, with a supplementary search completed in February 2012. Review Methods. The panel topic was subdivided; each contributor performed a literature search and provided a preliminary report. Those reports were consolidated and discussed when the panel met on June 9, 2011. At that meeting, the progress was evaluated and new short-term goals proposed. Conclusions. Progress was made on 16 of the 19 short-term goals proposed in 2007. Significant advances were made in the characterization of ME gas exchange pathways, modeling ET function, and preliminary testing of treatments for ET dysfunction. Implications for Practice. In the future, imaging technologies should be developed to noninvasively assess ME/ET structure and physiology with respect to their role in OM pathogenesis. The new data derived from form/function experiments should be integrated into the finite element models and used to develop specific hypotheses concerning OM pathogenesis and persistence. Finally, rigorous studies of treatments, medical or surgical, of ET dysfunction should be undertaken.

  • Chiral hexarhodium clusters containing heterobidentate phosphine ligands, a structural and reactivity study
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Dalton Transactions. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1477-9234. ; :12, s. 2457-2467
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Some intrinsically chiral [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-PX)] clusters have been synthesized, beginning with reactions of [Rh6(CO)16–x(NCMe)x](x= 1, 2) with PX, where PX represents the bidentate bridging ligands diphenyl(benzothienyl)phosphine (1), diphenyl(2-thienyl)phosphine (2), di(2-thienyl)phenylphosphine (3), tris(2-thienyl)phosphine (4), diphenyl(2-pyridyl)phosphine (5) and diphenylvinylphosphine (6). The ligand tris(2-furyl)phosphine (7) shows no bridging capability. When x= 1 the initial products are the clusters [Rh6(CO)15(1-PX)] which undergo spontaneous CO loss to form [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-PX)]. The structures of the [Rh6(CO)15(1-PX)] clusters have been elucidated by IR, NMR spectroscopy and FAB-MS spectrometry, and have been found to involve phosphorus atom coordination to a rhodium atom. In addition, the solid state structures of the [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-Ph2P(2-benzothienyl))](8), [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-Ph2P(2-thienyl))](9), [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-PhP(2-thienyl)2)](10) and [Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-Ph2P(pyridyl))](12) clusters have been determined by X-ray crystallography. The various types of chirality exhibited by these clusters are discussed. A simple model is proposed to account for the ratios of stereochemical isomers found in the Rh6(CO)14(µ,2-PhP(2-thienyl)2 cluster. The kinetics of formation of the bridged clusters from the monosubstituted [Rh6(CO)15(1-PX)] clusters have been studied.

  • Realizing services and slices across multiple operator domains
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings 2018 IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium, NOMS 2018. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). ; , s. 1-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Supporting end-to-end network slices and services across operators has become an important use case of study for 5G networks as can be seen by 5G use cases published in 3GPP, ETSI as well as NGMN. This paper presents the in- depth architecture, implementation and experiment on a multidomain orchestration framework that is ab le to deploy such multi-operator service as well as monitor the service for SLA compliance. Our implemented architecture allows operators to abstract their sensitive details while exposing the relevant amount of information to support inter-operator slice creation. Our experiment shows that the implemented framework is capable of creating services across operators while fulfilling the respective service requirements.
