  • Material properties of tailings from Swedish mines
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: NGM 2008. - : Norsk Geoteknisk Forening. - 9788282080095 ; , s. 229-235
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tailings impoundments are designed and constructed for disposal of mine waste, i.e. tailings, environmentally safe in a long-term perspective. Tailings dams are raised along with a mines production. Important for tailings dam design and construction are the material properties of tailings, with shear strength and hydraulic conductivity in focus. Studies on these properties have been carried out and are presented. Results show a large variation of properties, thus suggesting that common geotechnical test methods may not be applicable for tailings.

  • Stabilization of peat soils with air furnace blast slag and Portland Cement
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Thirteenth International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Air Furnace Blast Slag (FB) (fraction 0-4 mm) and standard Portland Cement (PC) have been used to stabilize peat soil under field and laboratory conditions. Considering the inhomogeneity of a stabilized peat block it is necessary to improve a combination of different test methods to: (1) guide the selection of slag material for specific soils, (2) assure that the mechanical stability of the stabilized peat (Peat/Slag/PC) is efficient, (3) control the homogeneity of the stabilized peat and (4) assure that the chemical stability of the stabilized peat satisfies foundation and environmental requirements

  • Acidification properties of sulphide soil - a classification system based on leaching tests
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: NGM 2008. - : Norsk Geoteknisk Forening. - 9788282080095 ; , s. 415-422
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The acidification effect from excavated sulphide soil is an environmental problem. In a project financed by the Swedish Road and Railway Administrations, a handbook was written on the best practice for managing sulphide soil masses to avoid this problem. A classification system for the acidification properties of sulphide soils, based on results from a leaching method developed by MRM Konsult AB, are proposed in the handbook. Results from over 100 leaching tests have been evaluated where the influence of different parameters has been studied.
