  • Monitoring and Analytics (Release B)
  • 2021
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This document describes the design and implementation of the 5GENESIS Monitoring & Analytics (M&A) framework in its Release B, developed within Task T3.3 of the project work plan. M&A Release B leverages and extends M&A Release A, which has been documented in the previous Deliverable D3.5 [1]. In particular, we present new features and enhancements introduced in this new Release compared to the Release A. We also report some examples of usage of the M&A framework, in order to showcase its integrated in the 5GENESIS Reference Architecture.

  • Implementation Guide for the ETSI AFI GANA Model : a Standardized Reference Model for Autonomic Networking, Cognitive Networking and Self-Management
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 2013 IEEE Globecom Workshops. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9781479928514 ; , s. 935-940
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes an Implementation Guide for an emerging standard for autonomic management &control of networks and services, namely the ETSI AFI GANA Reference Model for Autonomic Networking, Cognitive Networking and Self-Management (an emerging standard from ETSI). The implementation guide also takes into consideration the impact of emerging paradigms such as SDN and Virtualization. This is because as the standardized Reference Model has been published, it becomes important to provide an associated Implementation Guide that can be followed in implementing autonomic management & control in network architectures.

  • SDN Enablers in the ETSI AFI GANA Reference Model for Autonomic Management & Control (emerging standard), and Virtualization Impact
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 2013 IEEE Globecom Workshops. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9781479928514 ; , s. 818-823
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This standardization oriented paper describes the SDN (Software-Driven Networking) Enablers in the ETSI AFI GANA Reference Model for Autonomic Management & Control (an emerging standard from ETSI), and impact of Virtualization. This is because in this study we see that Autonomic Management & Control and SDN (Software-Driven Networking) share the same objective of enabling programmable, manageable, dynamically self-adaptable and cost-effective networks and services. SDN enablers in the AFI GANA Model are: (1) Modularization of Logically centralized Control Software (the GANA Network Level DEs in the GANA Knowledge Plane) and Reference Points Definitions; (2) Primitives for Programmability at various layers; (3) Use of Runtime Executable Behavioral Models to complement the use of Policy-Control and dynamic policies; (4) The role and value the GANA MBTS (Model Based Translation Service) brings in SDN; (5) The role and value the GANA ONIX (Overlay Network for Information eXchange) brings in SDN; (6) Interworking GANA Knowledge Plane Decision Elements and SDN Controllers; (7) GANA “Decision-Making-Elements” logics as “software” that can be loaded into nodes and network (enabling “software-empowered networks”). The study is important because it is now becoming critical to study and explore the relationships between Autonomic Management & Control and SDN paradigms, as well as Virtualization, identify complementarities between the paradigms and close the gaps by unifying SDN concepts and associated frameworks with the emerging ETSI AFI GANA Reference Model standard for Autonomic Networking, Cognitive Networking and Self-Management, a hybrid model enabling to combine both centralized and distributed control.

  • Quantifying eigenstrain distributions induced by focused ion beam damage in silicon
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Materials letters (General ed.). - : Elsevier. - 0167-577X .- 1873-4979. ; , s. 47-49
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract Eigenstrain offers a versatile generic framework for the description of inelastic deformation that acts as the source of residual stresses. Focused ion beam (FIB) milling used for nanoscale machining is accompanied by target material modification by ion beam damage having residual stress consequences that can be described in terms of eigenstrain. Due to the lack of direct means of experimental determination of residual stress or eigenstrain at the nanoscale we adopt a hybrid approach that consists of eigenstrain abstraction from molecular dynamics simulation, its application within a finite element simulation of a flexible silicon cantilever, and satisfactory comparison of the prediction with experimental observation. Directions for further enquiry are briefly discussed. • A global survey of emergency department responses to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Western Journal of Emergency Medicine. - 1936-900X. ; 22:5, s. 1037-1044
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Emergency departments (ED) globally are addressing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with varying degrees of success. We leveraged the 17-country, Emergency Medicine Education & Research by Global Experts (EMERGE) network and non-EMERGE ED contacts to understand ED emergency preparedness and practices globally when combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We electronically surveyed EMERGE and non-EMERGE EDs from April 3-June 1, 2020 on ED capacity, pandemic preparedness plans, triage methods, staffing, supplies, and communication practices. The survey was available in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish to optimize participation. We analyzed survey responses using descriptive statistics. Results: 74/129 (57%) EDs from 28 countries in all six World Health Organization global regions responded. Most EDs were in Asia (49%), followed by North America (28%), and Europe (14%). Nearly all EDs (97%) developed and implemented protocols for screening, testing, and treating patients with suspected COVID-19 infections. Sixty percent responded that provider staffing/back-up plans were ineffective. Many sites (47/74, 64%) reported staff missing work due to possible illness with the highest provider proportion of COVID-19 exposures and infections among nurses. Conclusion: Despite having disaster plans in place, ED pandemic preparedness and response continue to be a challenge. Global emergency research networks are vital for generating and disseminating large-scale event data, which is particularly important during a pandemic.

  • Arsenic-enriched groundwaters of India, Bangladesh and Taiwan-Comparison of hydrochemical characteristics and mobility constraints
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Science and Health. Part A. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1093-4529 .- 1532-4117. ; 46:11, s. 1163-1176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Arsenic (As) enrichment in groundwater has become a major global environmental disaster. Groundwater samples were collected from 64 sites located in the districts of 24-Parganas (S), and Nadia in West Bengal, India (Bhagirathi sub-basin), and 51 sites located in the districts of Comilla, Noakhali, Magura, Brahman baria, Laxmipur, Munshiganj, Faridpur and Jhenaida in Bangladesh (Padma-Meghna sub-basin). Groundwater samples were also collected from two As-affected areas (Chianan and Lanyang plains) of Taiwan (n = 26). The concentrations of major solutes in groundwater of the Padma-Meghna sub-basin are more variable than the Bhagirathi sub-basin, suggesting variations in the depositional and hydrological settings. Arsenic concentrations in groundwaters of the studied areas showed large variations, with mean As concentrations of 125 mu g/L (range: 0.20 to 1,301 mu g/L) in Bhagirathi sub-basin, 145 mu g/L (range: 0.20 to 891 mu g/L) in Padma-Meghna sub-basin, 209 mu g/L (range: 1.3 to 575 mu g/L) in Chianan plain, and 102 mu g/L (range: 2.5 to 348 mu g/L) in Lanyang plain groundwater. The concentrations of Fe, and Mn are also highly variable, and are mostly above the WHO-recommended guideline values and local (Indian and Bangladeshi) drinking water standard. Piper plot shows that groundwaters of both Bhagirathi and Padma-Meghna sub-basins are of Ca-HCO(3) type. The Chianan plain groundwaters are of Na-Cl type, suggesting seawater intrusion, whereas Lanyang plain groundwaters are mostly of Na-HCO(3) type. The study shows that reductive dissolution of Fe(III)-oxyhydroxides is the dominant geochemical process releasing As from sediment to groundwater in all studied areas.
