    • The incidence of melanoma is increasing. This places significant burden on societies to provide efficient cancer care. The European Cancer Organisation recently published the essential requirements for quality melanoma care. The present study is aimed for the first time to roughly estimate the extent to which these requirements have been met in Europe.A web-based survey of experts from melanoma centres in 27 European countries was conducted from 1 February to 1 August 2019. Data on diagnostic techniques, surgical and medical treatment, organization of cancer care and education were collected and correlated with national health and economic indicators and mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) as a surrogate for survival. Univariate linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the correlations. SPSS software was used. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05.The MIR was lower in countries with a high health expenditure per capita and with a higher numbers of general practitioners (GPs) and surgeons (SURG) per million inhabitants. In these countries, GPs and dermatologists (DER) were involved in melanoma detection; high percentage of DER used dermatoscopy and were involved in the follow-up of all melanoma stages; both medical oncologists (ONC) and dermato-oncologists administered systemic treatments; and patients had better access to sentinel lymph node biopsy and were treated within multidisciplinary tumour boards.Based on these first estimates, the greater involvement of GPs in melanoma detection; the greater involvement of highly trained DER in dermatoscopy, dermatosurgery, follow-up and the systemic treatment of melanoma; and the provision of ongoing dermato-oncology training for pathologists, SURG, DER and ONC are necessary to provide an optimal melanoma care pathway. A comprehensive analysis of the melanoma care pathway based on clinical melanoma registries will be needed to more accurately evaluate these first insights.

    • Mastermind-like 1 (MAML1) is a transcriptional coregulator of diverse/multiple activators, such as Notch, p53, myocyte enhancer factor 2C, NF-κB, beta-catenin, papillomavirus E6 proteins, early growth response 1 and runt-related transcription factor 2. Thus, MAML1 functions in various signaling pathways, most of them connected to cell proliferation, which suggests that MAML1 might play a potential role as a cell proliferation marker. In this study we show that MAML1 expression in the kidney correlates in silico with established cell proliferation markers including PCNA, CDC2 and XRCC5 (Ku80). Over-expression of MAML1 increased proliferation of human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells, while MAML1 downregulation by siRNA decreased cell proliferation. Exposure of HEK293 cells to inorganic arsenic (arsenite) showed reduced levels of MAML1, in combination with a decreased proliferation rate. Our findings provide evidence that arsenic can inhibit proliferation of embryonic kidney cells, possibly through reduction of MAML1 gene expression.

    • Objective of Tiphys project is building an Open Networked Platform for the learning of Industry 4.0 themes. The project will create a Virtual Reality (VR) platform, where users will be able to design and create a VR based environment for training and simulating industrial processes but they will be able to study and select among a set of models in order to standardize the learning and physical processes as a virtual representation of the real industrial world and the required interactions so that to acquire learning and training capabilities.. The models will be structured in a modular approach to promote the integration in the existing mechanisms as well as for future necessary adaptations. The students will be able to co-create their learning track and the learning contents by collaborative working in a dynamic environment. The paper presents the development and validation of the learning model, built on CONALI learning ontology. The concepts of the ontology will be detailed and the platform functions will be demonstrated on selected use cases.
