  • Wave Energy Research at Uppsala University and The Lysekil Research Site, Sweden : A Status Update
  • 2015
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper provides a summarized status update ofthe Lysekil wave power project. The Lysekil project is coordinatedby the Div. of Electricity, Uppsala University since 2002, with theobjective to develop full-scale wave power converters (WEC). Theconcept is based on a linear synchronous generator (anchored tothe seabed) driven by a heaving point absorber. This WEC has nogearbox or other mechanical or hydraulic conversion systems, resulting in a simpler and robust power plant. Since 2006, 12 suchWECs have been build and tested at the research site located atthe west coast of Sweden. The last update includes a new andextended project permit, deployment of a new marine substation, tests of several concepts of heaving buoys, grid connection, improved measuring station, improved modelling of wave powerfarms, implementation of remote operated vehicles forunderwater cable connection, and comprehensive environmentalmonitoring studies.

  • Calculating Buoy Response for a Wave Energy Converter - a Comparsion Between Two Computational Methods and Experimental Results
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 2095-0349. ; 7:3, s. 164-168
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When designing a wave power plant, reliable and fast simulation tools are required. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software provides high accuracy but with a very high computational cost, and in operational, moderate sea states, linear potential flow theories may be sufficient to model the hydrodynamics. In this paper, a model is built in COMSOL Multiphysics to solve for the hydrodynamic parameters of a point-absorbing wave energy device. The results are compared with a linear model where the hydrodynamical parameters are computed using WAMIT, and to experimental results from the Lysekil research site. The agreement with experimental data is good for both numerical models.

  • A new Phosphorus Paradigm for the Baltic Proper
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Ambio. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0044-7447 .- 1654-7209. ; 43:5, s. 634-643
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The external phosphorus (P) loading has been halved, but the P content in the water column and the area of anoxic bottoms in Baltic proper has increased during the last 30 years. This can be explained by a temporary internal source of dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) that is turned on when the water above the bottom sediment becomes anoxic. A load-response model, explaining the evolution from 1980 to 2005, suggests that the average specific DIP flux from anoxic bottoms in the Baltic proper is about 2.3 g P m-2 year-1. This is commensurable with fluxes estimated in situ from anoxic bottoms in the open Baltic proper and from hydrographic data in the deep part of Bornholm Basin. Oxygenation of anoxic bottoms, natural or manmade, may quickly turn off the internal P source from anoxic bottoms. This new P-paradigm should have far-reaching implications for abatement of eutrophication in the Baltic proper.

  • Påverkar sjukgymnastisk uppföljning funktionsförmåga, sjukdomaktivitet, välbefinnande och fysisk aktivitet hos patienter med ankyloserande spondylit?
  • 2005
  • Rapport (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Objective: The aim of the study was to describe and compare self-reported physical function, disease activity, well-being and physical activity in patients with ankylosing spondylitis with or without regular follow-up by a physiotherapist. Methods: 68 patients answered self-administered questionnaires. Results: 25 patients were followed on a regular basis by a physiotherapist and 43 patients were not followed on a regular basis. The group followed by a physiotherapist reported lower disease activity and higher well-being but worse physical function than the other group did, but the differences between the groups were not significant. There were, however, significantly more patients in the group that was not followed by a physiotherapist who reported sedentary leisure time than in the other group. Background factors such as gender, age, disease duration, education and employment did not differ between the two groups. The group that was followed on a regular basis by a physiotherapist reported a greater amount of physiotherapy and information about physical activity the last year and used more NSAID than the group that was not followed by a physiotherapist. Conclusion: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis should have the possibility to consult a physiotherapist but regular follow-up should be based on a judgement of each individual case. Key words: ankylosing spondylitis, physiotherapy, physical function, disease activity, well-being, physical activity
