  • The relationship between retail stores and public safety in disadvantaged areas in Sweden
  • 2022
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper contributes to previous research on retail safety by extending the concept of safety beyond the retail store. To this end, the aim of the research is to examine the mutual relationship between retail stores and public safety in disadvantaged urban environments. The goal is to demonstrate the potential of physical retail establishments in urban environments for creating resilient and socially sustainable urban environments in line with UN’s global sustainability agenda 2030. A secondary goal is to generate a discussion about the responsibility for living downtown areas and the potential value of physical retailers for public safety in cities. Thus, research contributes to a current debate about what is left in the cities when customers choose to shop elsewhere. The importance and vulnerability of retail are often highlighted in times of crisis (e.g. the COVID-19 pandemic), but behind such crises are slower processes linked to negative media images, unattractive physical urban environments, and the structural transformation of retail.

  • Early career researchers want Open Science
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Genome Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1474-7596 .- 1474-760X. ; 18:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Open Science is encouraged by the European Union and many other political and scientific institutions. However, scientific practice is proving slow to change. We propose, as early career researchers, that it is our task to change scientific research into open scientific research and commit to Open Science principles.

  • Multicenter study on deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease: An independent assessment of reported adverse events at 4 years
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Movement Disorders. - : Wiley. - 0885-3185. ; 23:3, s. 416-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ongoing adverse events (AEs) at 4-years postsurgery in 69 patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) who received deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) (n = 49) or the internal globus pallidus (GPi) (n = 20), in the framework of a subset of eight centers of a multicenter study, were analyzed by an independent ad hoc committee. At baseline, the patients' age, sex, disease duration, and clinical condition were virtually identical, as was the duration of follow-up. There were 64 AEs reported in 53% of STN DBS patients and eight AEs reported in 35% of GPi DBS patients. Most of the AEs were not deemed severe and were reported to be present "both with and without stimulation." The majority of the AEs affected patients' cognitive, psychiatric and behavioral status, as well as speech, gait, and balance, and most of these AEs occurred in STN DBS patients. When comparing patients who exhibited AEs with those who did not, it was found that in the STN DBS group, the patients with AEs had a longer disease duration, as well as more gait disorders and psychiatric disturbances at baseline.

  • Payment Systems as a Driver for Platform Growth in E-Commerce: Network Effects and Business Models
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Handbook of Research on the Platform Economy and the Evolution of E-Commerce. - : IGI Global. - 9781799875451
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter visits some of the fundamental concepts from platform economics, network effects, and network externalities. Further on, it discusses definitions of two-sided and multi-sided markets, how they are treated as business models. These concepts are further compared to the concept service ecosystem. A case of a payment service provider whose business model contributes to the growth of e-commerce is included. The purpose is to tease out how research on platforms has developed since e-commerce was in its infancy. The fundamental concepts developed in network economics are still valid and have been translated into different fields with a focus on value creation, information, and interaction. How platforms within platforms spur each other's growth is an area that has the potential to reach new insights on the platform economy.

  • Payments : Understanding the use of retail payment service platforms in the era of digitalisation
  • 2024
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This dissertation explores how and why certain payment methods are used in retail.Payment methods have changed in their form throughout history, and rapidly so in recent decades. Surprisingly, the treatment of payment in retail research appears detached from its purpose of use; i.e. purchasing products and services.Payment has a role to play in the digitalisation of society and is part of shaping both the retail market and how people carry out purchases in their everyday lives. In this context, individuals are inevitably compelled to engage with the payment methods prevailing in society. In this way, payment constitutes a convention, but more importantly, it is an intermediary that facilitates exchanges and is thus a service. Furthermore, payment services in retail are a classical example of a platform, connecting different sides of a market. In a world that is becoming more and more interconnected by digitalisation, platforms have increased in importance. In five different articles, this dissertation explores payment services from both the retailer and consumer perspectives employing comprehensive empirical material as well as both quantitative and qualitative methods. It finds that value is formed interdependently in the use of retail payment service platforms, with prolonged and growing ties in the market relationships investigated. Furthermore, it finds that friction can add value to a transaction, challenging the notions of cost-minimisation and seamlessness in the retail imperative.
