  • Careers, citations, bibliometrics, and impact : perspectives of new and emerging researchers
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: How to get published in the best tourism journals. - Cheltenham : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781035300600 - 9781035300594 ; , s. 211-238
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter brings together invited contributions from new and emerging academics with respect to their experiences and how publishing demands affect their careers and life, and vice versa. The provision of such experiences is important as it conveys the reality of publishing from a real-world context with respect to the pressures we face, especially when starting on the academic ladder. Authors were given a broad scope with respect to their contributions and the results are provided with only very minor editing. They have also been presented anonymously, or rather collectively, because although there are clearly different perspectives, emphasises, and interpretations, there are also commonalities in the contributors’ experiences. Nevertheless, as the reader will see, there are a number of common themes that emerge. Following the perspectives of the different contributions the chapter will discuss some of the main issues that emerge and their implications, including some of the darker aspects of the pressures of publishing.

  • A methodological contribution to promote behavioural change : A tourism sector focus
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Handbook on Tourism and Behaviour Change. - : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781800372481 - 9781800372498 ; , s. 81-97
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter presents a methodological contribution to promote behavioural change in tourism. The authors argue that the sophisticated and modern tourist demands meaningful experiences that trigger self-actualization that can lead to self-transcendence. The concept of ‘transmodernity’ is then introduced, showing how the transformation goal is to change a person into a specific direction addressing broader sustainability goals. The chapter further draws on empirical data in a nature-based setting to illustrate the influence of methods on testings and evaluations, and also, how they shape people’s thinking, theory crafting, and knowledge producing.

  • Memorable tourism experiences and critical outcomes among nature-based visitors : a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis approach
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Current Issues in Tourism. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1368-3500 .- 1747-7603. ; 26:18, s. 2981-3003
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Intense global competition for natural resources, manifesting in negative environmental externalities, has forced hospitality and tourism stakeholders to adopt strategies that may result in economic growth in tandem with environmental conservation. One such strategy is to cultivate travellers' loyalty to the tourism destinations and encourage them to participate in environmentally friendly activities. Using the affective theory of social exchange, social identity, stimulus-organism-response, tourism consumption system and attachment theories, this study proposes and tests a configurational model that predicts the antecedents of visitors' pro-environmental behavioural intentions (PEBIs) regarding their desire to revisit (REVI) and recommend (RECI) the services that they experienced. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis was applied to assess the effect of memorable tourism experiences, place attachment, and demographics on these outcomes. The findings revealed that multiple configurations can predict visitors' intentions at tourist destinations. This study's implications for theory, practice, and future research directions are also discussed.

  • Spatio-temporal variability of the earth's surface temperature and the changes in land user/land cover : implications for sustainable tourism development
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure and Events. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1940-7963 .- 1940-7971.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tourism both contributes to environmental change and is, in turn, affected by such change. One area that is of considerable significance is tourism's contribution to land use change and its subsequent impacts. Land use change, such as tourism urbanization, together with global heating leads to an increase in surface temperature and deterioration in environmental quality and human comfort levels. Understanding the implications of tourism-related land use change is therefore of considerable importance for climate adaptation. Using Landsat satellite images, the evolution of land users/covers and the temperature of the land surface between 1985 and 2020 were studied in Cyprus. The analysis of the data confirms that tourism development activities have influenced the increase in urban hotspots. This destination has experienced a 6.2 & DEG;C increase in average temperature and 168.8% in the urban hotspot. Based on the findings the study highlights the implications for sustainable tourism development and potential means of mitigation.
